Just me or these forums dying?

There isn't much going on here unless an update is coming soon. There's only so much to talk about in a game forum and if you've been a member long enough all the threads seem the same. Many actually are the same. Repeat threads pop up like weeds. Which planet is your favourite and what do you want in the game blah blah

I do love KSP and sometimes there are good threads. I like the what did you do today one.

Dying shmying...

I come here quite often (since I joined), but as you can see from my post count I'm really just lurking and reading most of the time. But especially for you I decided to post a lil' somethin' somethin'. To make it look a bit more lively ;)

Don´t think it´s completely pointless, but I think it´s just not only the forums the whole game seems to be dying.

If you look in the past dev notes (Kerbal XP system only little workes out, upgrade of buildings with botched work, the rasing number of mods that are fastly included, leaving of modders) and the rush that the devs do in the last time - it all seems to me like the interest in KSP is going down - the sales are going down and so the development is only a few steps from " sorry people no money - no development we had to pull the plug. Have nice day)

Now if only you could look at the real numbers instead of basing your conclusions on anything else.

You must be crazy. I'm not even sure what you mean with the Kerbal XP system and upgrade of buildings remarks, but both systems seem fine additions from where I'm standing. Adding modders work makes sense. No point in redoing all of the work themselves just to end up with a product that looks identical (Porkjet just nailed the stock look while making MK2). This is faster, allowing Squad to expand the game more quickly, and is great for the modders as well, as they get something to put on their resume or even some money (understandably the details on that are kept private). And maybe some modders have left lately, but that happens all the time. On the other hand we've gotten some new modders and mods in the recent months (BahamutoDs work, that weather mod, etc.). Don't worry about Squad running out of money either. They're virtually always among the 50 top selling games on Steam and when they do a sale it always makes the game get into the Top 10. A game with those numbers is enough to support Squad.

Hmm, I'll see if I can find some time to gather a few statistics. It's been a while since they were last spoken about (here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/content/244-Looking-back-on-the-community-in-2013)

edit: for consistency's sake I might look into that for another new year's article ;)

It's my fault.

I've been slipping a tiny bit of Drain-O into every post I make, which has been slowly dissolving the forum's delicate internal structure. Another month or two and the forum's defense mechanisms will no longer be able to handle it and the whole place will be flooded with tissue-dissolving fluid (the "toxic community" term that's bandied about lately). Get out now while you still can.

I've hit a bit of a wall for KSP, so while I'm not playing the game a lot right now I'm still hanging around the forums. It seems like the forums are going through a similar thing, with not a lot of stuff going on, but I wouldn't say they're dying. Stuff is still happening, it's just slower than usual for a little while.

I saw another forum about a franchise (look at my avatar and you will know) which is truly dead (1 post every 2 weeks).

Compared to, KSPForum has at least 1 post per minute.

Oh, and BTW, congratulations Kasper for your new rank ! :D

(I don't know if I can publish the link of the forum I was talking about. To be on the safe side I won't do it)

After a quick look at the statistics I can conclusively say the forums aren't dying ;)

hmm may i please see those statistics(not that i don't trust you but i would like to see exactly how many people join per day) or is it just reserved for squad due to legal reasons

Just watch the "post count" and other statistics at the bottom of the main page of the forum. I believe vBulletin only updates them periodically but you should be able to see the numbers increasing (e.g. in the last couple of minutes it has gone from 1,502,902 to 1,502,912).

Edit (18:28): 1,502,917
