What are your New Years Resolutions?

I do not do new year's resolutions. I believe in making changes as soon as you feel they are needed. No weak excuses, just do it!

Happy new year, folks! May the stars glitter and good things come.

Yep, New Years resolutions are just as pointless as Valentine's Day.

They are not pointless, as they can help people refocus on what they think is important. I just feel you should not use it as an excuse to wait. Start with what is important right away, that is the best way to succeed.

It's a cliche, but I'm resolving to eat better and start a fitness program. I was a skinny nerd until my late twenties, then slowly transitioned to normal nerd, then on to my current chubby nerd physique. Need to stop it before I hit fat nerd, and the longer I wait the harder it will get.

Not sure if something can be done about the nerd part. Maybe I should get a fedora, those are cool, right?

Have you considered getting a dog? Walking it everyday will make you lose weight faster than you'd think.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a parkour club/association/etc. Most of them will just let you turn up and start training, usually with an introductory class. Even the best ones are quite cheap (AU$15 for two hours is the rate over here) and it really is pretty awesome for getting fit.

Bonus points for style and awesomeness factor. :D

But yeah, anything really works, as long as you stick to it. Sometimes you gotta change diet as well, which can be a real pain. :(

My advice would be to not do fitness. Exercise for the sake of it can get boring quickly. Go do a sport, a sporty sport. You will be having fun and exercise all in one go! I picked up climbing because of this and have not regretted it. I feel good, look good* and am more healthy to boot. What more do you want?

*Well, better :D

Edit: heh, apparently se.xy is a dirty word in KSP land.

Not a good idea. The fedora is basically Medusa's head in the form of a hat, and unless it's worn with perfectly matching clothes, it will petrify anyone who looks upon the wearer.

It was created by the goddess Athena, as a reward for the hero Perseus. Because of its divine origins, any hat that copied the design of the fedora received the same magic properties as the original. The Greeks actually tried to exploit this by mass producing it as a weapon of war, but it backfired hilariously when the magic turned out to work from behind and from the sides as well, making it extremely difficult to use in the standard troop formations.

Other than that, it was also expensive to produce, both in money and manpower, and eventually it was banned by the Romans, who wanted to protect their dwindling sculpture industry.

And that's why fedoras are bad.

My New Year resolution is the same as last year and every year before - to have no resolutions other than life's daily resolve wrought by normal course of life... and to avoid such forum posts. As you can see, I've already broken that resolution.

Start memorizing 5 decimals of pi daily again (yes I was that much of a nerd that I did that for a while... then I forgot 100 decimal places).

Highlight: I actually only memorized 5 decimals of pi a day for about a month, and in fifth grade, so it has been a few years.

Some backstory: There's this girl I really, really like - an old friend of mine, we've known each other for 6 or 7 years and are currently studying in the same school. I've been wanting to get to know her better, but somehow I always ended up not doing anything and almost completely ignoring her. Unfortunately, school is ending in just a couple weeks and after that we'll be going our separate ways and I will most likely never meet her again. I feel really guilty for not spending more time with her and I sure as hell couldn't live with myself knowing that I met such an amazing person and then simply let them go.

Now, the New Year's resolution(s): I think I'll go and strike up a conversation with her some day, tell her exactly how I feel, apologize for being such a massive idiot and bid her farewell. I know it's already way too late to fix my mistakes but I don't have anything to lose. I'm not expecting her to have any feelings for me - all I'm hoping for is that she'll forgive me for my foolishness.
