I join the family.

The Reliant seems pretty good, a bit like a Viking/Vikas :

And the 303 reminds the Fregat upper stage :

But the new Swivel with this...

I don't know, this is not a nozzle, it's a "roll of fat".

The big fat thing at the end is, iirc, a cooling tube, or a turbopump escape thingy. It has a precedent in older rocket engines, whatever it is.

Also that "fatroll" on the lv45 is a regenerative cooling coil if any of you don't know what that is then you shouldn't be nitpicking engine models)

Looks more like an exhaust aspirator (sometimes called an exhausterator) to me, a more sophisticated approach to using the exhaust gas from a gas generator cycle engine. Not really a part of the regenerative cooling system.

Lol good thing I wasn't being critical of the model then. still my point is what it represents serves a real purpose in real life it's not just stylized greebling.

No, I really don't like them honestly... As individual rocket engines they're pretty great, but they would look pretty terrible in stock KSP. Having these would be like only half installing Venn's stock revamp, although even that stays more faithful to the original models.

The idea would be that this is the just first set of revamped parts.  Over the course of time, all the old looking parts would be revamped and eventually match.

On the Porkjet parts:

Yes, Porkjet did a super awesome job making those, they look lovely. HowEVER, I'd like the old engine models to stay, and perhaps we can just receive the LV-15 and LV-303 as new engines with their current models. Maybe they can tie it into the story line as a new series of engines that Jeb's Junkyard manufactured to move out of the stone age of rocketry and show that they're still a presence in the face of Rockomax and C7. Thoughts?

We went through this before with the mk1 cockpit some users just have no taste, but we can't let them drag the rest of us down with them into asset mediocrity. Any way this is a hype thread how about you start a "porkjet engine review" thread if you can't stay on the topic of hype. :P

The porkjet engines assets if implemented as stock at a later date would be a welcome improvement over old place holder assets.

And having some real pro level asset sources to reference would be a great for people to learn to make their own parts from. Another reason for hype!

Love the new engine look, unhappy they won't make it into the base game (as of yet?). Very much fits KSP's early American rocketry theme.

Well duh,I'm not an idiot, but these look like they were ripped from RO or Ven's, or even KW and kerbalized slightly. That looks nothing like stock KSP, or any part of stock KSP.

Be careful about throwing around accusations of plagiarism (or a statement that sounds very much like an accusation of plagiarism).  That's incredibly uncool.  That, and the rest of the nitpicking in this thread is disappointing.  For the armchair modelers, I look forward to seeing your work.  Let me know if you need links to software and tutorials.

@RoverDude, I know you said it was just something you threw together for that particular stream, but will it eventually be available for download?

Also, I have my ticket right here:

Now, can somebody direct me to the baggage compartment? I have a lot of mods I need to stow.

Very likely not, tbh.

I thought these hype threads were supposed to be about blind optimism, but Oh my great kraken some of you guys are being down right picky and should be ashamed of yourselves.

This is why we haven't been getting any official teaser pics because it seems like a good half of you take whatever porkjet makes and throws it back in his face.

It's well established already that porkjet does quality work he has nothing to prove to any of you arm chair game devs and rocket scientists who've never used 3d modeling software in your lives and know even less about actual rocket science (the 909 is fine the proportionally tiny combustion chamber is just hidden behind other hardware and real engineers make their upper stage engines as stubby as they can get away with because there are limits on how tall they can make rockets. Also that "fatroll" on the lv45 is a regenerative cooling coil if any of you don't know what that is then you shouldn't be nitpicking engine models)

Never said Porkjet's work wasn't good, it's very nice, but the colors put me off a bit. Personally I've love to have the engines use some of the black from the Vector instead of the blue, and maybe have the bright, vibrant yellow be a little smeared and be a bit more orange-y. Otherwise I love them! Porkjet did great work, just not my personal favorite, it's still very nice.

Don't worry, it was not about "Why did they place it?" but much more "Why did it got this look?". I mean even if we look at the LR-105 taken as an example, the shape is much more I would say pure. With the aspirator following the bell curves. Here I find the change of curves too brutal.

Photoshop or gimp can sort that for you.

Oh jeez, that's not what i meant at all, I never intended to insinuate that. I meant the visual style overall looked like the parts from Ven's or KW. And what's wrong with nitpicking? Are we no longer allowed to express our opinions unless they line up with that of SQUAD's? What the hell is that? For the love of god, All I was saying was that the parts look out of place from the entire game. They don't look like something you would see in stock KSP, and other parts looking like that would change the entire visual style of the game.

--EDIT--

This is what I mean. The parts look like they are changing the aesthetic.

That's the point though they are finally changing the aesthetic and bringing it all under a common style. The details of which are essentially for them to decide.

That is what is exciting about the rocket revamp and even more exciting about the asset dump because stock alike modders get very detailed references and a head start on adopting the new style.

*Sigh*

Perhaps I'm still being too vague, what I mean is: So far, as of right now, these engine parts don't look like they belong in KSP. They don't fit the other parts very well (Including the spaceplane parts), they don't fit the KSC, they don't fit the planets, they don't even fit the kerbals themselves. Unless the entire game is getting a complete visual change, those parts DO NOT MATCH ANYTHING ELSE THAT EXISTS IN THE GAME RIGHT NOW. Is that clear enough? I wouldn't care if they looked the part, but they do not. They look like they would be better matched to another game entirely.

It's clear, but just to be clear I disagree. This picture was clearly taken as part of a physics based render test not a promotions shot so I'd say you don't have enough to go off of to really say they don't fit. I also think  they fit the space planes to the extent that they need to, but there is no pleasing everyone.

If these had been just butts and nozzels like the vector or the thud the other half of the player base would be rioting right now demanding thier pipey rocket porn instead :P (personally I don't care either way on the tank butt vs. buttless debate)

As for kerbals they can be improved they are flexible. The planet's are an unreasonable expectation dirt and rocket parts are apples and oranges. The rest of the present non-spaceplane parts are irrelevant they are essentially slated for replacement.

Pls, it's historic:

3288366198_eb583c6797_b.jpg

The H-1 rocket engine! Simplified engines built for the Saturn 1, later used as RS27.

That skirt is basically getting rid of the turbo engine exhaust, moving the exhaust into the jeststream, since the rocket is a gas generator design and doesn't have any use for it. Does help to cool the nozzle tho. I think it's the same as the 'tube' aroudn the merlins nozzle just before the shiny part.

That's good, because usually when someone says something like "Ripped" it implies "ripped off".  Thank you for clarifying.

And by all means, express your opinion.  And I'll express mine.  A dogpile on an artist, regardless of whether they work for squad or not, is just not cool.  And a lot of this thread became a dogpile.
