  1. I can't say for sure (I don't read minds), but when I originally read Azimech's comment, I kind of read it as a joke/satirical-comment... but I don't know, maybe that's just me. I personally think it looks like quite good. Of course, perhaps the antennas, wire, and doodads could be added, but overall I think it looks quite good! By the way... what's that little tiny circle thing at the tip of the prop hub? (I can't figure out whether that's another part there or something about the fairing) Anyways, THE A-380 FINALLY FRIGGIN WORKS! ...AND IT DOESN'T EXPLODE! (unless you crash it of course) I ended up replacing the belly panels and it fixed everything!
  2. Are you thinking of the Gigantors? Because Draconiator's using O-Stat XLs I think... But if you are thinking of the static panels, then I'd like to see what you're doing to rip them off!
  3. Hey Godarklight! You may (or may not ) remember me from NoNameShips a while back. I just wanted to report a bug* I mentioned at the time, but this time with a log. http://pastebin.com/vfCCetBB Basically, if you select a new flag (or in this case a flag which had been there for 2 weeks yet was somehow still not synced), everyone else gets kicked off the server. By the way, I tried to select the relevant portion of the log. There's more earlier, but there's limit on. If you need more, just let me know. DMP is still awesome, despite its quirks! Oh, also, this is on an additionally modded game, but I can confirm this happens without other mods as well. *I currently have no Githubb account, so I put this here.
  4. That's what I thought, it's just that the description seemed to imply it worked well either in both light or dark, so I was like "how is a big honking sun-facing panel supposed to act as a good radiator?" lol
  5. I seem to recall that the Gigantors are supposed to double as radiators (at least from their descriptions in 1.05 I think)... Don't ask me how though... Seemed strange
  6. I've found I'm not getting much of anywhere with fixing my A-380's problems. Whenever I fix one thing, it causes an even worse problem in an adjacent area, it seems. I think I might just resort to redoing the entire belly + gear housing. In the above, a few panels near the front of the plane stripped back and ripped off some large panels at the wing roots, which flew back and knocked loose a large strip of tail panels (which eventually got pulled away by airflow). The panels at the wing roots coming off disconnected some of the struts to the wings, and a large portion of the right wing wrenched off, flew back (flipping over as it went) and slammed into the tail, knocking the back of the vertical stabilizer off, as well as most of the right tailplane. Somehow I managed to keep it flying by pretty much constantly holding s and keeping my speed up. I had to come in for landing at around 185m/s... it didn't exactly go too well when I ran off the end of the runway, but at least I can say a large portion of the passengers (if there had been any onboard) almost survived In the last picture you can see that this was going on a dmp server (NoNameShips).
  7. Tip for stock carriers: you can make a low part count durable deck using the flat sides of the large spaceplane tanks. As in 100m x 8m deck for <100 parts That looks awesome tho
  8. I've gotten the gear and wing snapping issues on my A-380 figured out, but I still have a problem that panels explode off the belly if I don't use unbreakable joints during physics load; I'll add pics when I am home and on comp. I fixed the physics load problem, but now belly panel explosions and partial wing disassembly cripple the plane again on takeoff, though usually it can (barely) be landed again afterwards.
  9. Last night I walked into the wheel of a car I had flipped over (was too busy doing J-turns and 360s to pay attention where I was going) with a kerbal, and my car got launched ab 150m into the air, flipping end over end... Somehow it landed right-side-up, so I just got back in and went on my merry way lol... These bugs amuse me more than frustrate me actually... Just waiting for Danny2462 to discover this!
  10. I've noticed that the new large static solar panels can sort of work as wings. They're not fantastic by any means, but this perhaps could allow slightly lighter structure. Ex: one could mount them as wingtip extensions. I might try my hand at this tomorrow.
  11. For the driving thing, try setting the traction/friction to manual for the wheels and increasing the friction. This should help reduce sliding. On the other hand, lower friction can allow stunts like J-turns
  12. So today I was looking back at arc5555's fantastic thread in which he shows how to create paper models of KSP crafts, and even makes a model KSP rocket fly! As I was looking at it, thinking that I might want to try it, and that probably I'd want give any model I might make a balsa frame to keep it rigid, when a lightbulb went off in my head. A balsa frame would make it a bit more durable, perhaps I could throw a light plane around... no... WAIT! ... Heck, I could add a ducted fan and servos and stuff and make an RC plane! Obviously it would start off with something relatively simple and stable (even in FAR), like an Aeris 3A, or perhaps something slower and even more stable, like a Cessna-like plane I have. But maybe even something big later on? (if it works) What do you guys think? Is this feasible? Does anyone else have experience with this kind of thing?
  13. This mod is amazing! I'd been looking for something to do this stuff for a long time, and was even about to start work on a fudged kOS script (by switching control back in forth between the player and the script every 0.1s) in a way that would probably have failed horribly! Then I came across this and it is working perfectly! I no longer have to worry about overstressing my STOL cargo plane. This is some great work!
  14. Ummm... maybe I'm just missing something, but I installed it the usual way by plopping the contents of the unzipped folder into the gamedata file, and... nothing... it's as if I didn't even have it installed... doesn't even seem to be any references to it in the log... Any ideas? PS: if you want the log anyways, just let me know... I just kind of have the feeling that I forgot something obvious I'm using Windows 64 bit 1.1.1250 I was indeed using the wrong version of AA. My bad. I'm learning the ins and outs of the fly-by-wire, it's looking awesome!
  15. I've been working on updating an A-380 replica. I already updated it to barely-working degree so I could use it in a passenger plane challenge, but I'm trying to make it go a bit faster (reducing stall hazard and increasing climb rate) so that the average player might be happier with it. This however made it about 18 tons heavier than it already was, which is causing the gear to bug out even more than they did before, and also causing... well... take a look
  16. Status update: Trident 3B will probably be added soonish. added The A-380 fixes are almost complete. IT'S HERE BABY! The VC-25 is giving me all manner of trouble, from gear clipping into the runway, then blowing it up, to things explosively launching themselves off the belly and tail of the aircraft. Therefore I have no idea when I'll be able to upload it.
  17. On the weather thing, I doubt that anything as advanced as what you're describing will be added. Most likely what would be added is visual-only clouds and maybe wind similar to that frrom some mods (though I kind of doubt the wind, newB players might probably not like crosswind landings, and they tend to be a focus). But if they do implement that it would be awesome! On topic: you might be able to make something that looks like a hovercraft using the repulsor things from Kerbal Foundries
  18. I'll have to see what 1.1 wheel physics do to my "cars", but back in 1.05 I got... I think it was 1328m/s in a kerballed jetcar and survived... Only place that was flat enough was the ice caps. I probably have screenshots either on my comp or on NoNameShips, but i'm on mobile right now. Basically at that point I was playing chicken with shock heating.
  19. With part-welding you could probably make your entire bridge into about 10 parts, maybe even one. And the below estimate seems a bit large. A 4m wide, 2.6km long deck could be easily made with under 600 of the large mk3 spaceplane tanks (emptied of course). Granted, this would be without the supports, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was possible... barely... not saying I'm going to try it though, I'm kind of busy in life at the moment (AP final exams coming up ).
  20. Thanks! Later I'm hoping to reduce the part count/extra bulk in the wing root, since with 1.1, the downsized gear doesn't have to go through the wing like it used to. (When I was testing it, gear clip resulted in a hilarious crash in which an entire wing seperated from the plane when I deployed the gear on approach to the island... You can probably guess what happened after that...)
  21. Hello! I've been a lurker on the forums since around .14, and I've finally joined! Almost Real Size Replicas: Civilian Aircraft Replicas: Airbus A-380 Carries 644 (unless I miscounted) passengers. Expect it to maneuver like the 430 ton winged whale that it is. Not for potato computers. Craft File & image on KerbalX Boeing 737-600 It carries 88 passengers and flies quite nicely (in my opinion). Craft file & image on KerbalX Boeing VC-25 Carries the President + lots of VIPs. Has a bonus feature for fans of Harrison Ford Craft File & image on KerbalX Bombardier Learjet 45 Carries a modest 8 passengers. Flies quite nicely, as it's not very heavy. Craft File & image on KerbalX De Havilland DH-106 Comet Right now it carries 18 passengers, I mainly went for looks on this one, will probably change. Flies about like your average plane. Craft File & image on KerbalX Hawker Siddeley Trident 1C Carries 80 passengers, good for the casual pilot. Craft File & image on KerbalX Hawker Siddeley Trident 3B Carries 96 passengers, also for the casual pilot. Craft File & image on KerbalX McDonnell Douglas DC-10 Carries 224 passengers and... well... it's a bit sluggish... just... "Don't let the plane take you where your mind wasn't 5 minutes earlier" Craft File & image on KerbalX McDonnell Douglas MD-88 Carries 50 something passengers I think. Not the best flier, but it looks pretty cool. Craft File & image on KerbalX Aerospatiale Concorde (Incomplete) This thing doesn't want to supercruise yet, let alone do so at Mach 2. Not finished yet. Craft File & image on KerbalX Unofficial plans: work to improve Aerospatiale Concorde (maybe), maybe (757, 767, 787), 777, Cessna Citation, C-17 Globemaster lll, more. Yes I have a lot of plane plans! More coming soonish! Pictures! Military Aircraft Replicas: A-10 Thunderbolt (AKA Warthog) Currently has no missiles. I may add some later. Craft File & image on KerbalX General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon A bit squirrely and sluggish at the same time, but still fun to fly. It has no rudder at the moment, and as for the nose... I did my best people! Craft File & image on KerbalX Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor Also fun to fly Craft File & image on KerbalX McDonnell Douglas F-15 Strike Eagle Fun to fly Craft File & image on KerbalX More coming soonish Totally Kerbal Crafts: Coax Mk1 A small, stock, coaxial helicopter. It currently has enough fuel for only about 5 minutes of flight, but I aim to improve that. I actually developed this after getting sidetracked while trying to use Majorjim's thermohinge to give a Concorde model a droop nose. The droop nose didn't work, but I got something much better! Craft File & image on KerbalX Igor C2 STOL Cargo Plane Originally designed for on the often debris-strewn wasteland that is the island runway on a high-traffic DMP server, this cargo plane has the ability to land and takeoff within 150m (unloaded). I once did 100m by accident (I stalled it onto a 100m aircraft carrier I was buzzing, which I may add later), but 150m is more recommended (as this will be necessary for takeoff ). Anyways, the twin Goliath engines are mounted high to keep them away from debris, and relaxed stability allows this plane to keep a critical angle of attack, allowing flight down to 30m/s (unloaded). Don't ask me why I named it Igor... I really don't remember Craft File & image on KerbalX Kerbal Cessna P3 A light, easygoing plane for beginners and experts alike. Good for island trips, flying under bridges and through hangers, and more. Can carry 2 passengers along for the ride. It's also got a happy face! Craft File & image on KerbalX Titan Mk1-2 A somewhat large tandem rotor helicopter. With the right game settings (namely just an increased rotation speed limit), this thing can lift 73 or so tons. Flies like a dream, but I can't say reliability is the same. It probably won't break, but there's always that chance. It should be fine if you don't take it over 25m/s Craft File & image on KerbalX More coming soonish Plans here include updating 2 cargo planes, a few helicopters, and more If you have any suggestions on how I can improve my builds (or anything else to say ), please let me know! Have Fun!
  22. Today I tried to reduce the part count on an A-380 replica... hilarity ensued as I realized I needed ALL of the struts on the wings to keep them from ripping apart. Note that most of these images are from different flights, but they illustrate basically the stuff that happened.
  23. I've been a lurker here since the days of .14 (iirc), and this was the challenge that finally convinced me to take 20 seconds to create an account. My entry is a 5/6ths scale A-380. I could tell many funny stories from its development on a DMP server, but I'll get on with this. Capacity: 644 passengers + 4 crew* Weight: ab 408 tons Range: ??? Ceiling: ??? Max Speed: 80m/s? It uses some clipping, but I tried to make sure that I didn't violate physics (ex: if fuel tanks are clipped, they are either empty or only one of them has fuel, you get the idea).** It goes really slow bcc stock aero hates those wings on the bottom of the tail and the gear housing (actually I hate those too). But hey! It takes off, flies, and lands without going boom, so I figure the test subjects passengers are happy. *I only used a 2 Kerbal crew, as I didn't feel like hiring all those Kerbals, nor being responsible for the massacre if something went wrong **I believe I have met all the rules, however I figure it's Ribby's decision as to whether this meets the no-cheats requirement If I am missing something, please let me know!
