  1. Or just an bored sailor. On battleship new Jersey some joker had marked some no longer used controls as warp drive and shields I see this as likely as its just one missile, and it don't look like its an easy way to select missile to launch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-11_Shtorm I assume missiles are moved forward then pushed up onto the launcher rails, this is not an issue if all missiles are the same.
  2. Yes, to optimize how to hit an moving target you have to consider the targets heading, if it moves away from you at an angle you will intercept it farter away so it would have traveled longer if it moves towards you it will intercept earlier and you have to aim shorter. This is the same issue as fire control system faces. WW 2 US torpedo launch fire control computers solved this, it was an analog computer who took range, speed and heading of target to calculate how to launch torpedoes. Unlike an WW 2 torpedo however your robot can update this continually.
  3. Now this is an weird looking wheel arrangement. I see it has the option to rotate the wheel base if you get stuck, but using an larger wheel the size of the 3 should work almost as well and be simpler
  4. With larger payloads I agree, for low payloads as in single kerbal, I say it would be overkill on core stage. My rocket is overbuild as it has 1000 m/s left then in orbit, but did not bother optimizing more. Its based on an KSP 1 design I used. In KSP 1 the decent was much simpler, inflatable heat shield and and two layers of plates in the rear to keep rear more draggy than front.
  5. This, now I play KSP as an real time game, so Eve window is closing fast, launch to Eve at day 9, before returning from Minmus. Year 1 day 255, two mission to Moho and Duna / Ike, all science collected. Trying to land on Eve. Eeloo window is coming up but want to buff the craft, Dress mission is reaching SOI. In this setting I launch tanker because I might need them. I would also launch orbital VAB and materials at Eve an Jool and more tankers.
  6. You are obvious correct, you should calculate for engine out and at full trust it would require much longer runways, two engine planes are hit harder than 4 engines. On an B-52 with 8 engines its just degraded performance. Now Starship makes B-52 redundancy look weak. Even if booster is write off but landing an Starship back at base or in Europe or Africa is significant not only for manned missions but also for expensive payloads. Pretty sure falcon 9 is set up as if an first stage engine fails it will it go disposable. Burn all fuel and get to and get into an orbit and wait for an tanker is also an option who was KSP only until this. Google released an paper on hard drive life expectancy, drive tend to fail the first 2 months or after 7 years. Looks like this is also true for cars.
  7. Never thought on adding something to the rotating parts of the modded KSP 1 parts but they was physical as in the structure would punt an kerbal hit by them. But they was also retractable for launching. For me the robotic parts in KSP 1 was a bit to buggy to be really useful but used them to recover some capsules on the Mun, add docking port on capsule have arm mounted at bottom of base to dock with it take off an let it dangle below, get close to recovery probe and have it dock and return to Kerbin.
  8. I probably do as I did in KSP 1 and for getting science in KSP 2, put wheels on the lander. This way you can miss the target with some margin. More of an issue with bodies with atmosphere. On Moho I was able to land withing 300 meter of target, on Duna 3 km is good. But 300 meter still require wheels. Moho is not like Minmus there you can hover around a lot, yes could probably got closer but since I had wheels it was close enough. On my Minmus bases in KSP 1, I tended to build them at an line from east to west as I could be within 10 meters sideways but more like 50 meters for east west point and just used KAS pipes to dock, even had an extension truck to dock if outside pipe range. On other worlds I put the base on wheels as they was smaller. Pol base refueling Jool express. Crew for an crew rotation for all 5 bases, Tylo ssto and an refuling truck for Layte for getting science at the other side of the moon.
  9. Hi, if none of your saved games load I guess the problem is an corrupted ship in VAB, go to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\LocalLow\Intercept Games\Kerbal Space Program 2\ It should be an folder with the name of your space agency and under there an sub folder vab or something. Try to move all the files here out and see if game loads now.
  10. See my post above as why backup programs will need specific setup to save game files as they are stored in an hidden system folder
  11. I vote 1b, fun story, back during WW 2 US upgraded their shore batteries because of an risk of Japanese raids. You had some panics like the LA air attack who was people probably shooting at clouds or US planes. Once the AA guns started firing the rest joined in. Obviously the shell from the small ones had to come down somewhere, the heavier ones had timed fuses but not 20-30 mm. Now in 44 the threat of Japan doing raid or even shore bombardment on US west coast was laughable, but the batteries still got ammo for practice, but cleaning the guns was an pain so the simply stored most in some old magazines, for previous generations of guns. Then the war ended they just hide the entrance to these magazines. 50 years later some wanting to develop the area got an surprise in lots of cordite and old shells.
  12. This, launch was not strictly orbital and it was an good thing because it lost control. Unknown why the missile range next to Hawaii was not the splashdown site. I guess it was stuff in the Mexican gulf. But if they can can push the engine farther, you also have the old practice of using an oversize powder charge in a gun to test fire it. Not done in a long time, gun barrels don't explode and if they do they are outside unlike on age off sail ships but made sense back then as making iron was still a bit hit and miss. But they might do something like this to stress test the engines, its not like you will reuse them anyway.
  13. Jet engines only run on full power during takeoff during normal runs. I also assume this is baked into maintenance requirements where an takeoff equals say 1 hour normal flying so an plane used only on an 1 hour flight will need maintenance more often than one who fly long distance. On the other hand 1-3 hour flights is usually so light they can just land again if they have an issue but long haul flight need to burn or dump fuel before landing. Was on one 2-3 hour flight who could not retract the nose wheel so they turned around and landed, got it fixed and took off again. Obvious passenger questing is if the nose wheel will come out, its simpler to extend it than retract it. On a flight from US to Europe, plane had to turn around as they only had one working navigation system but needed two to cross the Atlantic. They had to burn off fuel to land, pilot told that this was why the engines sounded different.
  14. And its part of the launch contract for SpaceX I believe, you have an very fixed launch window: important geo satellite down and we need an replacement ASAP, or an strategic need for it up now and you pay an premium as we will likely to loose the first stage.
  15. But they are weak compared to TV broadcasts and directional and moving. I say look for an biosphere firsts. I say this is easier than radio unless aliens try to contact us actively and will also much easier for planets to get an oxygen atmosphere than an advanced civilization. Then you have That one is seriously weird. My guess it was close to an neutron star merger some years ago so it scoped up lots of heavy elements including island of stability elements who decayed into stuff we know. Most likely an error so verification is always important.
  16. Perhaps looking at tools to recover deleted files. Also why is games stored place like C:\Users\(username)\AppData\LocalLow\Intercept Games\Kerbal Space Program 2 Instead of the older standard C:\Users\(username)\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 This way backup programs picks it up automatically. \AppData is for temporary data, not stuff you want to keep safe. And its no standard. AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy AppData\LocalLow\Intercept Games\Kerbal Space Program 2 But it looks like locallow is mostly used by games.
  17. The satellite constellations run pretty low power and its pointed downward. We are moving away from the large TV antennas and over to low power cellphone, wifi and low earth satellites so earth will be harder to detect. The thing you could see of starlink is the up-link stations. Now these signals are broad band compressed and encrypted so hard to differentiate from noise.
  18. Pollution is an serious problem, wealth is is the best way to solve it, richer countries has much less environmental issues than poor ones as they have money to spend on the environment. Compare air quality in the west compared to India or China even if China works on this. People living for thousands of years would probably think way more long term. And you don't run out of resources. You find substitutes or optimize how to get them, if something is rare and needed price goes up and it encourages more mining. The problem with say oil is that most was produced in the Middle east who is political unstable so its an risk of an fail of supply, much more spread out now. But rare earth is the new one, its an strategic issue not an scarcity one. In the far future and faster in this setting I see asteroid mining as big. More environmental friendly and cheaper down the line. Main change I see with immortality would be increased risk migration against stuff who could kill you. Second wold be an more long term thinking. You would get an constant long term population increase. Say average living age is 2000 years, today if you could not die of diseases or age related issue you would live 1000 years but assume its also safer. Say people average has one kid every 100 years. So everybody produces 10 kids every 2000 years, but just 2 people dies Now population is likely to fall past 2050 with current estimates but this could cause long term problems.
  19. Remember that, I suspect you had to do an two stage refigurator here as you need to make your hot side so hot it looses heat on Venus and the reactor mostly add more heat who has to be radiated away. And that is the cool side of the reactor loop, the hot is limited by materials. Theoretical possible but you need to design an reactor specific for this. It would be heavy, Guess above system also is but it don't matter much as is part of an static industrial process. The electricity used will just add to the heat. Now I'm questioning if you could use this in an steam turbine to get extra power because the relatively low efficiency of steam turbines and they are pretty good at getting most of the energy out?
  20. I had one issue, small docking port, seperator, second small docking port did not work, Standard docking port, separator and engine of lander or docking port or docking port, decopler pointing down and nose cone on top of lander worked without issues. My guess is that the separated ports got bugged because not docked but close they docked then separator was used, trying to undock did not work. Second design was tested in orbit.
  21. I agree, now its an major issue then farming, who is shown. Now we could imagine the coast of Lathe being very muddy. Its not uncommon on earth. Doing an landing with an small boat, lifted up engine and rowed the last bit so say 15 cm water, friend stepped of boat to pull it, he sink to his knees, lift foot and leaves wellington underground never to be found I was barefoot.
  22. I found an cluster of to work well 9 darts two in the boosters and one in core, works well from sea level, could probably cut it back quite a bit as core is a bit to heavy and thing is overbuild. Main issue for me is landing accuracy and stability. Here I eject the transfer stage after deorbit burn. Granted this is one Kerbal on a rover seat inside an faring. Side booster has crossfeeed, second stage with an terrier, then an oscar tank with 3 spider engines. Now for 10 kerbals landed at Eve, the vector looks promising.
  23. Agree, now the next is enter Jool system, then land on Tylo, Laythe could be better, it also has oxygen so planes works there. Without the spoilers you would first enter the Jool system. Either with an flyby probe or an fleet, I sent 4 ships but had already launched towards Eve, Moho and Duna.
  24. Yes back in KSP 1 I found that adding chemical engines on my tankers helped, with nuclear they used to long getting up to an speed there I could turn over, still with an TWR of less than 2 you can tip over very fast and mostly gain velocity.
  25. Heat pumps works great as in they electricity to convert an small temperature difference to an larger one. All the way to using the -10 centigrade outside air to produce hot air in your house. Assume the same is true here but used on industrial waste heat. Leaving the gas boilers in place could be smart as during winter you use the wast heat for heat stuff instead who is more efficient but this is wasted during summer.
