Valentina enters the fray!

Valentina Kerman has already gone missing after frequent complaints that she's become too famous.

In other news, a new kerbal has been admitted into the space program.

A generic female Kerbal. Definitely not a famous politician astronaut. No, her name does not even SLIGHTLY resemble that of a Moon of Jool. Totally different person than the one you're thinking of.

inb4 FlowerChild makes the next version of Better Than Starting Manned "Better Than Female Kerbals"

Hey! I resemble that remark! :)

In all honesty, I have no objection to the female Kerbals anymore. My original stance against them was based almost solely on a perceived waste of development time, but the more I thought about it, the more inclined I became to believe that if it made little girls feel better about themselves, and increased the chances they'd be interested in space exploration and other scientific fields, then it was entirely cool by me.

At a theoretical level I wish we lived in a world where this stuff didn't matter and Kerbals being androgynous would allow either gender to identify with them equally, but we obviously don't live in that world, so at a practical level I consider this to be a good thing.

I still do hope that Squad hasn't stepped into a big old pile of gender conflict with this which winds up causing more trouble down the road, but now that it's done, nothing really to do there but keep our fingers crossed.

I like it. My only concern is the ponytail. The way Diverse Kerbal Heads did hairstyles allowed for more variety. The ponytail limits that. Then, I suppose Squad is sticking with the clone concept to encourage players to see Kerbals as disposable. So, a singular hairstyle is really of little concern to them.

edit: My Kerbals are not disposable.

I don't think players seeing them as disposable has ever been Squad's goal there. On the contrary I think they implemented the xp system in 0.9 to encourage players to become more attached to them individually.

There's only so much development time to spend on character models and hat systems though man, and really, that's not at all what this game is about. I may be able to bregrudgingly admit the validty of the development time spent on female Kerbals, but if it ever comes down to moustaches and hats instead of stuff like mechanical parts and other deeper gameplay mechanisms, I think I'm going to start arming my Kerbals with torches and pitchforks :)

I think the edited version on page 2 of this thread is a tad nicer. the eye spacing is a little big. seeing as they did all that animation work, that implies to me that the female body rig doesn't match with the male body rig, so I'll wait to see a picture where her arms aren't crossed.

From what the screenshot looks like, that only allows more variety as long as the hair is totally flat and fits on a cylindrical head without sticking up anywhere. If you want hair that's *not* basically close-cropped, you have to model it.

Well, this adds a WHOLE new dimension to my Jeb/Bill/Bob slashfic...

She's adorably derpy. :) I'm looking forward to some maniacal lithobraking misadventures. I'm hoping they make her a Pilot. (inb4 female Kerbals can't drive)

inb4 someone makes a mod that removes female Kerbals because they are sexist.

I WAS going to make a (trolling) mod named, G.R.O.S.S., but I thought that was needlessly inflammatory. ;-)

...arming my Kerbals with torches and pitchforks :)

And BANANAS!

I am curious as to what she looks like in game, renders are not a very good indicator of looks in game.

Oh yes, any chance we can get a short animation walking loop, even if only taken from the modelling software?
