KSP Coming to XBOX ONE: Discuss

1 - Curious why this couldn't be done for the Xbox 360 also, although I get that it HAS to be on the newer console first....

Because XBox 1 shares most of its codebase with Windows for PCs. And Microsoft is aiming to make that commonality even higher.

I'll just.. quote myself.. What's so bad about porting?

People think that it takes away from the main development effort, or that Squad should focus on fixing bugs before wasting time making more versions. They don't know or care that Squad isn't the ones doing the porting.

I know, some people either do not know that Squad itself is not porting it (hence there are no lost man-hours on the full version of the game), or are taking this opportunity to voice their grievances with Squad itself.

It should be noted that some of them don't believe that Squad isn't involved in the porting at all.

I do believe I have seen some references in the Dev Notes of some members working with the porters. It makes sense, too. No one knows the game as well as Squad, so they would be the ones to answer a few questions or give a tour of the code.

But it's not as if they've split the dev team into three groups to handle the three branches.

I still feel that the controls are going to be really, really funky, unless they give you a myriad of options on-screen to select. :/

Let's see... Mouse movement, two mouse buttons, a mousewheel, ALT, CTRL, SHIFT, W, A, S, D, Q, E, H, N, I, J, K, L, arrow keys, T, R, X, Z, numpad 0-9, [, ], ",", ".", M... am I missing any?

You have to love economic reasoning. SQUAD is earning money from people that buy the game, not from people playing it. So why improve the game when you can just improve sales by dumping your unfinished stuff on another platform?

Most of the mouse movements can be controlled by the left stick, Right stick to rotate in the VAB? I dont see how they can setup action groups without some mean drop down menus.

Id imagine they'll skip IJKL, HN, and just stick with Docking mode :P

I can agree that the controls do feel like they would be a little funky, though some of the devs who've said they've seen an in house version of the playstation version have said it works very smoothly. cant wait to see a sample.

I know right? If only they would do something like port the game over to the newly released Unity 5 engine in their next patch....... Oh wait.... i seem to remember them doing just that. Huh what do you know? :P

Meh, whatever. Personally, I'm a firm member of the PC Master Race.

I've just stopped paying attention to all the weird branding-based capitalization schemes.

my points, exactly.

IMHO, the console era has long past.

consoles were great as cheap home entertainment systems, but home computer costs have dropped so much since, a PC will always outperform a console.

Please let that horrendous supremacist meme die, itconjures up images of black uniforms and jackboots and I really don't want anything to do with that association

it's no skin off my nose if someone wants to use a different platform, it's not like PC is dying, it's the fastest growing market and if these console releases bring in more revenue then it's good for everyone.

Well, porting an unfinished game to another platform seems to be a thing lately (DayZ Standalone, World of Tanks etc.).

Otherwise, just another piece of "exciting" news. I'd be excited, if I was a -snip- console enthusiast. But I'm not, so meh.

I sure as heck hope they're involved in the porting to a considerable degree, even if it does impact the development of the PC version.

And anyone with any experience of this process knows that a decent port requires a lot of input from the original developers. Otherwise you don't get a decent port.

I am gonna buy an Xbox one a PS4 just so I csn play KSP on them.

Honestly, on an unrelated note, I'm not the console fanatic I once was, but Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7: Remake will be the only two reasons I'll buy a PS4.

once I'm done with em, I'm likely to take them back and get $0.72 store credit at Game Stop

I bought KSP for about $12 back around 0.21 when it was far less of a game than it is now and yet already massively playable.

Considering how much has been added since, I find it really hard to think of it as "unfinished".

But okay, so there's more to add; I still don't see what's wrong with Squad extending it to other platforms, even if commercialism is the only reason.
