SpaceX Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Elon again says he wants to name the first ship Heart of Gold, and hints that they choose a new name for BFR in the future. May also use a floating platform to land/launch it.

They're not sure yet how much training the passengers will get, will "start a discussion" soon.

Less than 5% of SpaceX's resources are devoted to BFR, but will ramp that up soon. Top priority is still satellite launch and Commercial Crew.

Someone ask about Mars!

My guess is they know very little substantial information about how Mars missions will pan out.

Send Andy Weir and James Cameron (he's already been lower than everyone else in the trench, so why not higher)

The Everyday Astronaut asks the question we all needed!

Things at the bottom are confirmed to be configurable as a giant vacuum nozzle.

"Version 2 would have the vacuum engines instead of those cargo racks"

2 engine out capability in almost any situation

Sea level engines. Swapping out cargo pods for vac engines ups cargo delivery mass.

BFS still has engine-out capability, only needs 3 engines for landing!

When asked when he personally might go to space, Elon jokes(?) that he might accompany Yasuka on the flight...

Yay! We saw some hardware! And I think a longer engine test? And so many questions. Gonna need to rewatch the Q&A later.

Also only 3 engines needed for landing.

I was afraid no one was going to ask. Especially after two people in a row asking about how much it would cost.

Was the raptor in that video throttling?

The things at the bottom are cargo racks, they are in no way a nozzle.  They can be replaced by vacuum nozzled engines later.  Also said that vacuum nozzles wouldnt gimbal.

We are proud to announce our first international moon landing, and also the establishing of the first moon base as an mission extension.
We are also happy that the landing legs, engines and fuel tank worked very well as crumble zones.
Can I interest you in this slightly used booster?

Yes indeed. This way they won't need a crane to lower cargo hopefully?

BTW maybe I lost the part where the refueling method was proposed, did Elon mention anything?

I don't think they will need any refueling for this one... They could use the center leg to refuel though.
