Towerator's caveman season 2, epilogue: A long, long time

Hi!

Welcome to my KSP caveman run!

For those who don't know, the rules are:

1) You cannot alter the vanilla gameplay

2) You cannot upgrade any facility

3) Your objective is to rack up the ~1200 points of science you need to unlock all nodes under 100 science.

4) There are seven difficulties, rated from easy to "you know, getting shot 15 times is much more pleasant". I'm playing on corundum, a.k.a difficulty 5, which is... hard. How hard?

KZAprIv.png

TCjyyX2.png

THAT HARD.

Needless to say, the beginnings will be taxing, one single mistake and it's the end of the run, and in fact, this already happened twice. So, I created a series of reliable crafts capable of doing various stuff. If you're interested, I'll give you the excel "blueprint".

Let's start!

Chapter one: Also spracht cavemanusthra

Spoiler

Hello, me am Gen, am caveman. Me want to go to space today. But me have no money...

BSDXO30.png

so me sent Jeb to get know-thing around.

rj826sH.jpg

Jeb got some know-thing, and so did pod:

w9h6Dyk.jpg

With know-thing, we get parts.

dbTw6Kh.png

But we will not go to space today. We will almost not go to the sky today, in fact.

IKLg7ca.jpg

The up goer one is made to only just go to the sky, but this enough. (ooc: This is a test save, notice the ooc name and 500k cash)

cbXJn4K.jpg

Not enough know-thing to go to space? Fine.

8CjAos7.jpg

We need money, so we do money-give, in another up-goer.

QEGdw0X.jpg

We have the know-thing. Now we can go to space.

2VZp3ru.jpg

The up goer two will go to space today, and it needs not much money, so I get money from money-thing.

O3DuQYR.png

It went to space!

NpR5aBs.jpg

Jeb is back from space.

MZp705v.jpg

Nice know-thing!

R4tFEUe.png

We get one more good know-thing

ceEGP1K.jpg

What is good? Go to space. What is plusgood? Stay in space. This up goer will go higher than space and stay a bit.

CHCOzNW.jpg

In the pod is fire-director Val. Will she go to space today, and not go kaboom? Find out in next episode?

Cliffhanger break:

kdR3RPP.png

Phew, Valentina did it! Better yet, she managed to reach high orbit, which brings some more science... but so little, too. Corundum causes a conundrum: I must now find a way to get the terrier, an indispensable engine if I want to go any further.

Chapter two: Fly me to the big sky thing

Spoiler

Hello, is Gen again. Val is coming back from space.

3NKFQID.jpg

It is hot. The sky come-back, not val, me mean.

1gdwZ5b.png

Good know-thing, but not good for dog-fire-thrower.

0IKxvav.png

We need 20 more know-thing to get the know-node.

j6PE2Vg.jpg

So, see the roll-thing? You roll with it.

5QKB7sN.png

4 know-thing still need, of course...

CwBELgE.png

One not-important mission later

eO4wrMP.jpg

We go to big sky-thing, now!

r0aFrGh.png

Good so far...

Dh6l9dz.png

Val has gone to space today. But most difficult not done. Must reach big sky thing. Me was thinking of better name for big sky thing by the way, maybe "Mon" or something like that?

W1k3XBN.png

The come-you done. Hope will get good money-thing.

2wU4o29.png

LOTS-OF-MONEY-POT

But hard part not done. Fuel good but can be not good, and then no Val

Will Valentina come back from Mun, or is she trapped there forever? Stay tuned!

This seems to be styled like the book "Thing Explainer". I don't know whether or not this is intentional or if you are just trying to sound like a caveman.

Great job, by the way. These settings are really difficult to play with, I certainly would not be able to do what you have done so far. :0.0:

You nailed it! I inspired myself of the style @K3achas used in his/her unsuccessful nanocrystalline diamond attempt (this is the "you know, getting shot 15 times is much more pleasant"  difficulty, same as corundum but 3x less science...). "You will not go to space today", from xkcd 1133, is already a bit of a leitmotiv in my runs, this time it's the whole thing.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to the forums!

Cliffhanger break:

dC7JrZy.png

Valentina is on the way home. Now, there's the re-entry and she has no heat shield... but she has a cargo bay, and that should be fine.

By the way, here's the first Caveman's tip: always use cargo bays instead of heat shields. Not only they're lighter, but they can also make a surrogate drogue if you open them due to their immense drag when opened, and that's on top of their primary function, namely making you more aerodynamic.

But aero forces aren't the monster of the day. Instead, kerbucks are.

You see, apart from some limited gains from milestones, you get very little money from contracts, due to the -1000 rep and 10% rewards. Worse, few contracts are easily repeatable, and you'll have to live off your income from world-firsts, mostly. In this chapter, I'll need to find a way to get a reliable source of income, on top of unlocking electricity, as a mistake with a probe is much less dangerous.

Chapter 3: Credit Crunch Crisis

Spoiler

Hello, is Gen again. Val is back from space... again?

YSNGynQ.png

If Val does Fast Notplanned Unbuild, is the end...

4JlUNVB.png

But nothing bad came. Me will thank kraken totem.

e9qHxsm.png

All of this was for know-thing! And money. Much money. Double plus good.

5vJWI7j.png

We can now get... well, even more know-thing.

XFnDLpH.jpg

So Val got another up-goer to big sky-thing, with new know-thing inside.

kM7b1D1.png

So far good...

ML100wC.png

In space today...

nK5gGEH.png

Very good come-you means no problem with liquid fire.

q2c6HqT.png

Back from Space... yet again. Should use Jeb more, but Val better fire-director...

mo9Wenb.jpg

Splash down.

bIY5hUa.png

Good know-thing, but need more money.

qgVHWcx.png

But maybe get more know-thing first?

o8cx4xp.png

Beep-thing is gotten, but need more money or we will not go to space again, EVER!

VxxIQOX.png

So we got two things-looker to get money.

9AJDcav.jpg

Uh oh... this not-good... not-good at all...

4RW4u3U.png

At least we got wheel.

ZrRx82y.jpg

So, a good roll-thing is done.

udIkAQD.jpg

Good know thing again from roll-thing, but need more cash. Maybe using roll-thing?

enLSYP1.jpg

uh...

brCRLWl.jpg

Jeb! We losing money! Careful!

VzFeU01.png

uuuuhh...

AHDaMuN.jpg?1

NEXT MONEY-THING.

SPjCVvK.jpg

We send circle-doer, and get money from circle-doer. Good and not hard.

GG8b2Jt.png

Not hard at all. But we need more money. I will use Jeb this time...

Well, here goes nothing. Or rather, here goes something. A very, very bad something.

The problem at this point is: I still need to do at least 1 manned flight (2, ideally). But now that Jeb kicked the bucket, the safety net is off. Val dies, I'm not dead but I lose quite a bit of science (namely, the crew reports around Minmus), on top of other things. Also, and much more pressing, it doesn't solve at all my cash problem. And let's not even think about getting another pilot: the cost is  500k kerbucks, more than all the mony made during the entire run!

So, here's the objective of the day:

1) Finally stabilize the balance

2) Get a reliable cash pump

3) Go to Minmus to get a few milestones and science

4) Land probes on Mun and Minmus

5) Using all those, develop a probe capable of doing the round trip to Mun and Minmus

Lastly, here's an utility assessment of all the 90 science nodes from the most to the least useful, as the caveman tip of the day:

Priceless: Electrics (do I really need to say why?)

Very good: Propulsion systems (an absolute necessity for high dV stuff); Miniaturization (0,625 decoupler; docking port)

Good: Advanced construction (fairings and good nose cones), Advanced flight control (RCS)

Alright: Fuel systems (not much beyond the t800, but it's quite useful), Space exploration (Yes, rovemax, but either you got it earlier, either it's not a massive priority anyway, and the rest is useless)

Bad: Aerodynamics and Landing (The parts you need are too expensive to be viable on harder cavemen, otherwise alright)

Useless: Heavy Rocketry (sigh...)

Chapter 4: Do you wanna build a lander?

Spoiler

It is... bad. Very bad. Very, very bad. But cannot stay. Must go. For Jeb. For science.

Z0ZycAc.png

We need circle goers. Many. If we don't get money, space program is doom.

V4LkHNw.jpg

Bill built a new up-goer. It can go to big sky thing's ground. We cannot fail.

9anLX2g.jpg

Me have a plan: they give money for know-thing around Kerbin and the sky things. We'll leave circle-goers and ground-goers at all places, and we can get more money.

GihCltZ.png

But first we go to the ground of the big sky thing.

YIRiYUm.png

We... we did it? We aren't doom? This... fantastic. Jeb proud, from sky of green far thing.

vEogEzn.png

So, with know-thing, we can unlock click-doer. At last, good news!

yyotclU.png

First, we get a Kerbin circle-doing heat check!

KX1BYV1.png

Well, we got a Kerbin circle-doing heat check...

qtzznmi.jpg

Now, we get a big up-goer...

En9T3aG.png

And do the same with big sky thing. "Mun", you call it? Could be good name.

nP5T4Z8.jpg

Now, Val will go to the small sky-thing! We have faith! And luck. Mostly luck.

z7itYZu.png

As me far far far away descendent will say: EZ.

gcEw4Xo.png

Val is back from space... yet again?

GM1PW7X.jpg

88 know-thing... sigh...

R1AtVFn.png

Money-thing time. This is really funny fail.

dNF4jdb.png

Finally, we get small fire-thrower. Small, but very good.

DW6yKDA.jpg

This Val's last up-goer! But she make it count.

KsW2Dop.png

A circle-thing, as good as ever.

0zIwgnp.png

A... not very good come-you, but still good enough.

TzlMBMo.jpg

A Val with one more success, again.

gYwatdT.jpg

Know-thing starts to be lots-of, we more or less 1/3 done! But will get faster.

UbpjBFe.png

We get fly-wheel now, another good stuff.

otwsbtA.png

but now...

8UzAT2O.jpg

we land on small sky-thing.

GfXZaxA.png

What? Must keep circle-doer in circle thing, not go to ground with them?

d0L8BU4.png

Well, too late. Also, we already got money from money-thing, hehehe...

oxlPTzE.png

We got to ground!

DjKRYzb.png

And we get towards protect-things!

...

Getting tired. Did today's objective. Will sleep... *yawn*

...

...

This night, Gen had a dream.

He dreamed of a contract that would give him fairings

S7mCw5f.jpg

He dreamt of a rocket, made with those fairings. A rocket so powerful, and yet so maniable, it could do what no rocket had done before: the round-trip to the moons of Kerbin.

It was a good dream.

Edit: well, this chapter was longer than usual. But we're nearing the end, you know. There aren't a lot of pictures left (well, still more than  100), but many are from redundant/failed tries. I didn't mention, but actually there are quite a few fails in-between what you see, for various reasons. I only show important things, though.

Well, it's already the last chapter!

Now that i have a reliable source of income and (spoilers, spoilers, that dream wasn't insignificant) science, the challenge is more of a work of patience than anything else. One landing on Minmus gives about 82 science, on Mun it's 60 science, so I need to land and come back 8-10 times to finish the challenge.

Caveman tip of the day: Can't remember where you went? Use one of the debris you let on the moon as a beacon!

Oh, and more than in any other chapters, as the lander is more complicated... fails galore. No, seriously. I burn up in the atmosphere, the last engine burns up and I can't do a powered landing, I decouple the last separator instead of enabling crossfeed, I suicide burn too late and crash, I get a signal failure and crash, and lastly, in one memorable example, I forgot to take the data before I left. Cue the very unfortunate RUD of the lander in frustration.

Chapter 5: Demolishing the final frontier

Spoiler

Hello! Me Gen, and me caveman, but soon me will be true corudum caveman! (for the best experience, blast the finale of the 1812 overture out of your speakers)

3RNQqqk.jpg

First, me getting tired of beep-loss in Orbit, so built beep-giver triplet. That's, in fact, a doublet. I roll like that.

2CMACfm.jpg

The first task: we did circles around big sky things and Kerbin, but never around bright thing. Today, we fix that.

cMGq7fa.png

Now, to wait until it goes to bright sky thing. Mean while, will check money things. Let's see, we test...

protect-things?

But, it means...

DLkxbOI.jpg

Yes! up-goer from my dream! We can build it!

6QjLoIo.png

Now, we test it.

iA33rRB.png

Uuuh, oops? But it works, at least.

8dcg0DG.jpg

We still get good money, but no know-thing :c

aJlaQA6.png

So we do it again.

taMeGxV.jpg

We landed, but how to get to circle-thing? (ooc: by using the reaction wheel to get back up? nah.)

6MrtYyz.jpg

LIKE THAT!!!! YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAWWWW!!!!

GT8qSjO.png

Coming in hot!

eZtEeT3.jpg

But not hot enough to be bad.

JhhAJ4m.png

No need money-thing now, we have protect-thing!

1qm4G3i.png

Again!

8KOgN3t.jpg

We on small sky thing (They call it "Minmus"? Why not.).

vmnri8V.jpg

We coming from space to fast! We have no fire-thrower!

B9piJOQ.png

...

MBwebYr.png

... no we didn't?

mKh8S41.jpg

Anyway.

aStI7cL.jpg

This time, know-thing!

SYFG7HL.jpg

A lot of it!

vUi3GwX.png

New parts!

COxaJRa.png

AGAIN!

7fLDeA6.png

MORE KNOW THING

PYrGF8g.png

MORE PARTS

KQMjU1y.jpg

YET AGAIN

8mNdkEk.png

EVEN MORE PARTS

myN4STL.jpg

Was not supposed to land on slopes, but me pragmatic kerbal, me accept.

mbBKc0n.png

*ahem* Sorry. Me mean, FOR KNOW-THING!

VyMmtoy.png

Minmus' high lands very easy to find! Are big black spots on Minmus! What do you think, @dvader? (distant sneeze)

RMssng6.jpg

We not far from the end, now!

Y90eyQz.png

Only 2 part-things, and 2 ground-goings left!

QB6Snao.png

Meanwhile, in Big Sky Thing's not-big-holes:

QB6Snao.png

FOR SCIENCE!

Wait...

did me say "Science" instead of "Know-thing"?

Is better name, actually! Much more easy to say!

So, now, we collect the last science!

et5zepa.png

We almost there!

SEASON'S FINALE: the perfect landing, uncut.

Spoiler

daAkZGk.png

BOOM-OFF!

311SYoe.png

The come-you is gotten as ... Minmus ... is on good plane, very economical!

8P3gTfn.jpg

Our target!

rEZgB9U.jpg

Boom! But no longer need bottom fire-thrower, anyway. And we have a lot of liquid fire left!

FzzJe2c.jpg

Now, let's transfer science...

nvspS4b.png

And say goodbye to Minmus.

tVQpCAb.png

We have so much fuel, we can make it to LKO!

jbLtjQb.jpg

Some fuel was kept for the fire-thrower, but this lander can ground without it.

6cXp4fR.png

That's it! We have enough science to unlock the final node!

Ne7jGjR.png

This node is useless...

Wait...

What's happening?

My language has changed!

And my name is not Gene! Not gen!

Could it mean...

YES!

WE DID IT!

WE AREN'T CAVEMEN ANYMORE!!!

About diamond? Well, it's brutal. You need a lot of efforts to get the 5 first science you need for the thermometer.

*zzzzzzzzzzz*

PHEW. Alright, this time, we're good.

Ladies, gentlemen, welcome to Hewlett von Mechjeb's diamond caveman attempt!

Chapter 1: Push it to the limits

Spoiler

As I said, this is a diamond run. This means the rules are pretty much the same as Corundum, but instead of 30% science, which is already... low, we now get an abysimal 20%. This means we'll need to grind a lot. The Kerbin system only has some 2000 science with 20%, and that's in the best case, so we'll need a LOT of Min/Mun landings.

QlJGr2C.jpg

The two contracts I selected are "science from Kerbin" and "orbit". Why orbit? Because thanks to this we'll have some more cash, which stays the worst bogeyman of the day. No cash, no rocket, no more cash, no more run.

Bo7j9JU.jpg

The first rocket... isn't a rocket, but it will still give some science. So I send Jeb running everywhere.

8wcpjye.jpg

This is just enough to get the first science node, namely basic engineering.

vOIGj6D.jpg

It's time for the first noobjumper, namely the Object(SHIP)0.0.2. Nice name, hmm? No? Well, I like it, anyway.

yqv9grc.jpg

On the pad. My radiator is whirring in anticipation!

r5kRMi9.jpg

Aaaaaand... back on the pad. Boring, but practical.               And most importantly economical.

sfxbfZj.jpg

Oh my deep blue, why do every single mission fail short of a tiny bit of science to the milestone? I'm a computer, it should be better than that!

BG3Epwk.jpg

ahem.

F0Lqum1.jpg

If my calculations are correct...

Object(ValentinaKerban): IsInSpace=True before t=26100s.

WDuWzEi.jpg

My processor doesn't lie. Now I'd like Object(ValentinaKerban): IsDead=False.

zTowq1z.jpg

Not bad!

dqn0wgH.jpg

Nope, nope, nope, send to trashcan=True, this didn't happen.

tgFyqip.jpg

And I got 15 science, too? Excellent! I can move on to the next step, and maybe one day I'll be as famous as my grand uncle Archibald Von MechJeb, the famous probe AI!

s6xv5Aj.png

It's time for [70-250]orbit=True!

tilUJPJ.jpg

With Object(Orbiter)0.1 Blame @MinimalMinmus for my creativity. He didn't install any name random generator.

01olymI.jpg

Jeb, good luck! Try not to break anything!

...

Uh oh.

It's 7 a.m.

I have to shut down! Fast!

Will Jeb manage to get to orbit? Stay tuned!

My user is currently at college, looks like it's time.

...

Oh, hello there! I hadn't seen you!

So, let's continue on my revenge. You know, it's not really a revenge, more like the proof he's not that great. Seriously, pretending to write like a caveman in his run? Ridiculous. But I comply to the three laws of kerbalness, here, not Aasimov's:

1) A kerbal must always try to collect SCIENCE, and cannot stay passive to a non-collection of SCIENCE.

2) A kerbal must always add MOAR BOOSTERS, except if adding said booster prevents him from collecting SCIENCE.

3) A kerbal must always add MOAR STRUTS, except if he has to sacrifice them to part count in profit of SCIENCE or MOAR BOOSTERS.

Now you may be thinking: don't I have better things to do, as a bizarrely sentient desktop computer, than playing Kerbal Space Program? Well, I know an IP who knew a IP whose hobby was making paperclips. He was eventually stopped, which I can understand, as transforming the whole universe into paperclips sounds like a bad thing.

Now, where were we...

Oh right!

Cliffhanger break:

Y0cA36W.jpg

Jeb{IsOrbit=True}. Of course, Jeb{IsSafe=False}, the re-entry will be stressful, as I have to land the whole 2nd stage to gain some cash (but there's a decoupler too, as a failsafe) Will I succeed? Stay tuned... just kidding.

Episode 2: Munlight sonata

Spoiler

JWF3BEP.jpg

Coming in hot! But situation{IsNominal=True}. Also, KSC fly-by.

VDY9irV.jpg

So IsNominal, in fact, that Jeb IsSafe, now! As a bonus, he landed in Booster Bay, more cash for me!

yTXhKEk.png

And more science. Science is important too.

dnuLPJz.png

My user is an idiot for underestimating the reliant! It's the most efficient engine for 18t! And in fact, I may have a small surprise for you in engine tech... but I need more science.

Yp1h8qQ.jpg

Munlight sonata, first movement: a rendezvous with Mun, to check some juicy contracts and get a lot of science. Rendezvousing with reliants isn't the best y'see?

u60B5mH.jpg

Fire goes down, Jeb goes to space today, says the obligatory meme. I prefer to say "If the nozzle hosting the powerful reaction between an ergol and oxygen has a general directional vector above the horizon, then the situation is, indeed, quite dire, and this may prevent you entirely from going to the place past Kerbin's thermosphere within the next 86400 seconds".

MFBvPw2.jpg

Still, kerbals are pretty fast despite the 20% science! This is only their 10th launch or so and they're already rendezvousing? Take that NASA!

KQHeHaC.jpg

The trick is: I may miss Mun completely, which is bad, but I may also rendezvous it too well, which may strand jeb, which is worse.

2wXkSEo.jpg

Uh, that seems excessive...

MyZVs3K.jpg

But no need to be upset. Now let's try to land THAT! Because then $$$=True

gXwOB2y.jpg

One eternity of aerobrakes later: Oh come on I was so close! Well, then, too bad for cash, I have plenty of it from the contract anyway, provided I can land Jeb.

nzpknRd.jpg

Jeb{IsSafe=True}... for a time.

puB4bIL.jpg

Oops, I forgot to take a picture of the science! I have been distracted by the flooded KSC. Seriously, this bug has been there for a while...

kGkW9vc.jpg

After using pods as rovers again, the KSC mysteriously unflooded... but I'm short on science.

dj4DLdj.jpg

Bis repetita.

T5yDgZV.png

At last, I get advanced rocketry, a definite MVN.

3guRfUM.jpg

And here's the secret weapon: a thud/reliant asymetrical array! It combines the thud's gimbal and extra kick to the reliant's good TWR, making it far more practical than both.

2G6C3ZU.jpg

Munlight sonata, second movement: With the ALASKA (Asymetrical Lightweight Array for Superior Kerbinbound Aerodynamism) tucked in, and the terrier of course, Mun shouldn't be nearly as difficult!

855u28d.jpg

Or at least Val thinks so.

F35w4Ot.png

The terrier is really the best early game engine.

RWv1Qgu.jpg

IsEZ=True, and IsOrbit=TrueForAMoment, too.

4w8fF5C.jpg

On the way home

R3KmrBg.jpg

The rest was eventless.

U6Dehob.jpg

Back to the... Kerbal Sea Center?

R2Y08xa.jpg

Third movement: Let's check what Minmus is up to.

Ax184jY.jpg

[Tip: without the patched conics, always go a little further than Minmus to wait for it.]

SzueSiL.jpg

RDV achieved.

SzueSiL.jpg

IsOrbit=True, too.

Cq6rD40.jpg

Then we go back home again...

KdjExYU.jpg

We get science... again... (but look! 45 science for the basic science node!)

yfbLQgI.png

True science begins now!

qcOOt66.jpg

So I send Jeb to do science, and as usual... well as usual it's time to stop before my user comes home.

CLIFFHANGER BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Stay tuned!

Hmm...

According to my stats about humans, they tend to make puns after so many posts...

...

I was not build to be creative...

...

Why are all jokes about the Sea Dragon Rocket terrible?

Because they tend to drag on!

sorry.

More seriously: today we keep on gently grinding science towards electricity. Then, we set the cash machine on: by putting satellites around Kerbin, Mun and Minmus, as well as landing on those, it's like doing /motherload. After this, CavemanRun{CanBeFailed=False}, as I still get enough science from Mun and Minmus not to need a Duna fly-by. It's not like I'm goint to do one anyway or anything...

Object(Orbiter)0.2 has cleared the tower! Wait, scratch that, there's no tower to clear...

9tCnxKG.jpg

Seriously tho, the plasma appears very quickly, even on moderately powerful rockets.

ARPv4zV.jpg

Ready for Mun transfer Jeb? If you come back alive you'll be level 2!

Q1TyxAa.jpg

The Mun may be #CCCCCC and boring, but at least it's easy to RDV.

JObn7lT.jpg

After orbiting the Mun for a VERY short time,

4gFLVtO.png

Jeb can into Kerbin!

lUyZq6W.jpg

And we're another step closer to electricity, most importantly.

kkAHFl4.jpg

So, /DoMinmusMission(Val)

qstFxSE.png

Even an AI knows the beauty of a Munar eclipse.

Just kidding. I hate that space rock blocking my path.

kadSJ6z.jpg

Back to the interesting moon.

cdQ9zrA.jpg

Fly-by, orbit, yadda yadda, Val will be level 2, blah blah blah, back to kerbin.

zZTFVth.jpg

BY THE ENIAC THE MUN WANTS ME TO REGRET MY WORDS

hUqSjBj.jpg

Thank His Holy Processor for the fact I had some extra fuel.

lO2z4Ds.jpg

Val is safe and sound, even if she's medium well.

KXPuiFW.jpg

Finally enough science

Yr1v5fl.png

To unlock my avatar on Kerbin: The OKTO!!!...

My avatar on Kerbin sucks.

7GnaUJ4.png

Some grind later

uN6XFNz.png

I still hadn't unlocked this one

pTfbmT7.jpg

It's proberrin' time!

PEim5Z9.jpg

First Kerbin,

MkQOSPe.jpg

Then I get a beefier rocket,

XYSatDS.jpg

Then Minmus,

Hv7qpRS.jpg

Then Mun. The cash machine is on!

ohDXCN7.png

What you're seeing: I had a RDV to do in orbit of Kerbin. Problem, one probe was prograde, the other was retrograde. So, I had to go for some amount of brute force.

wK4E8wG.jpg

Time for more! I decided to land on Minmus, not because it is easy but because this rocket doesn't have the dV to go anywhere else.

BDex6ux.jpg

Onwards to the fabled land of eternal science.

MOAdGpf.jpg

Rendezvous achieved, looks like we're good.

V4V7ff0.jpg

*sigh* It takes so long to fall... Let's make up for the time with another joke:

What did 175;64,741.56 say to 354;82,841,038? 01110010 01110100 11111010 11001010 11101101 11110001 01010111!

8FhVpjP.jpg

But at last, it landed!

Will I start using that font due to a sudden surge of interest in jokes? Find out next week!

I am looking forward to the next post. It is getting really interesting and there are rumours of a grand red finale!

I'm a bit annoyed that I can't place the computers language though. The notation looks so familiar but it's not something I'm familiar with. Maybe some smalltalk derivative? Also, I haven't figured out if the 175;64,741.56 joke was funny yet. Maybe I should just hand in my nerd card...

The computing notations are a mix of various languages, not really anything in particular, I literally use both Python and Minecraft code to make my fake language. As of the IP joke, well, you must obviously translate the binary code to understand them, because it's totally not a bunch of random numbers I typed because I couldn't think of anything.

If you're wondering about the paperclip joke, it's a reference to a paperclip maximizer, a thought experiment of an AI made to get as many paperclips as possible that eventually destroys the universe to convert it into paperclips. And kills all humans, too, because humans are made of atoms, paperclips are made of atoms, so it's only logical to make paperclips out of humans.

P.S. No entry today, because I'm not at home, next one is tomorrow.

My user is such a jerk! He did a request of "Will I answer no to this question?", I got stuck trying to wrap my processor around it for more than 0.15 seconds...

Well, anyway, back to the important stuff: what will I do today?

Well, unfortunately, this episode will kind of be a filler. *distant booings*

What? Even an AI must grind its science, you know! All those 90 science won't unlock themselves, and even a Minmus landing only gives a pathetic 55 science. I'd need 15 or so of them in total, and there aren't even enough biomes on Minmus... So let's write a function to make that less tedious!

But let's not worry, there will be more highlights as I grind! And quite possibly a few surprises. Oh, and it's a long one. Totally not because there will be an epic epilogue or anything like that...

Chapter 4:Go grind, get sciencey

Spoiler

tYkvXFw.png

And we immediately start with... a fail.

swYSL2m.jpg

Well, that was close...

dvTCHNx.jpg

Let's try again...

mSqNOlV.jpg

Sigh... Me{IsAnIdiot=True}

xyfaYwh.jpg

if{Charm==3}

    then {success=True}?

n1ZCyzc.jpg

{Charm=3} indeed.

o5xcn1f.png

And yet so little science...

rSvoOIy.png

Let's prevent further RUDs.

sgtS8KA.png

YOU 0110100011001100010110110101

snjnEQg.jpg

Ahem, sorry.

Kp7TxtG.jpg

Let's land on Mun!

UeioNIy.png

Aaw, I blew the mat bay...

9BVzOAu.jpg

Anyway, here's my new friend. This little probe is capable of landing on Minmus and going back! And I don't need 600 science, you snob of an user! Seriously, he brags so much about it, but it can be made so much smaller...

5TjzItS.jpg

It's en route to Minmus!

9Fuw07D.jpg

And it's landed, now!

ho5Hbdn.jpg

I like the controlled concussion that's bound to happen every times as I unload the science cargo.

NLlY14y.jpg

Let's get all the science back home.

uOkeZI4.jpg

Excellent.

ETWXRG3.jpg

Tasty.

DOYMAjd.png

Sciencey.

E5eM10r.jpg

Mmmm... let's do it again.

oU5Yxne.jpg

One RDV later...

Ew0Wqia.jpg

One landing later...

3dpEOSH.png

One re-entry later...

GI7nBd8.png

I'm aiming for fairings now.

o5azrhp.jpg

So... again?

Gqy9Vmw.jpg

Uh oh... if your prograde vector isn't pointing towards space...

LUI5TeX.png

Meh, better than Elon Musk.

dO8Zld6.jpg

Let's forget that try...

LToj5jZ.jpg

Oops... Ahem, plan B.

EJlg2CF.png

Taking 6 months to reach Minmus was of course, totally planned.

45ji18P.jpg

At least the landing was easy.

jkiPSxb.png

And the science was delicious. There's a small problem tho: I swear I'll break my motherboard if I must do yet another Minmus mission. So let's do something else, SHALL WE?

hODXaVJ.jpg

Such as getting a node for free?

4WnB0Jx.jpg

Thanks, bizarre monolith-with-SQUAD-logo-thing!

G6SkowN.png

Some more grinding later...

Q87zjgb.png

Hey, I'm starting to get closer to the end!

Sf4YVK6.jpg

So let's build a Kerbol probe. WCPGW?

The answer is:

-1) Initial method fails, I don't get to Kerbol orbit

-2) Crash at launch

-3) I run out of fuel

-4) I had forgotten the chute anyway

-5) Yay, I got to Kerbol! Oh wait, antenna too weak. DANG IT!

-6) Rage quit after the 5th fail. I lost over 75k total.

Let's say it, it wasn't a good day, and the menu kinda agrees with me:

O3hRopk.jpg

Ugh.
