Good thing Sheldon got that napkin from Penny for Saturnalia.

When I experimented with FAR, I had this issue when my vessel was *too* aerodynamic. I had issued with the spontaneous disassembly, so I figured 'hey, I will keep it in a fairing until chute deployment altitude.' Nope, came in even hotter and faster, and still got ripped apart. Once I made it more draggy, it re-entered OK - oh and got rid of the fairing too.

Testing My Wits! (Challenge Me!)
EdFred replied to areutheman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Depart Eve's surface from less than 100MSL, and obtain at least a 100km x 100km orbit. Oh, and you need to do it with the 4 Kerbal Hitch-Hiker module as your ascent vehicle core. No roving allowed. -

No, it's fixing them, repairing them, maintenance, etc...

What planet (or moon) do you have the worst time landing on?

Decoupler issues with engines on the drop tanks. When I get home I will put up a picture. -
Yes, but not on this forum.

It's not my favorite engine - in fact I rarely use it. But how am I supposed to fit 6 48-7S engines on a 1.25m tank without it looking, well, stupid? -

24 x 48-7S will not fit on my lander nicely. 4 aerospikes do. The aerospike IS what I want. -

True, but I don't watch the ground when I am landing. I have my altitude above terrain readout from KER on the HUD, and only look at that, the navball, and TWR, during landing. Keep the retro marker pointed straight up and you don't haven issue with sliding sideways. Also, my last Tylo lander was narrower than the lifter and interplanetary stage it sat on, and had no trouble with the launch when I experimented with FAR this weekend. In fact, I had too much dV, and dropped an entire stage from the lifter, and was still probably 1000dV over what I needed. I don't have a screen shot of it right now, but just think 2man lander can with 4x symmetry cubic struts and -400 tanks with aerospikes with the HD landing legs, with an additional pair of -800 tanks on each side of the can. Then the drop tanks were the Rockomax 16's all stacked under the lander can. Those got jettisoned on descent save the last one - which gets dropepd on ascent. So while it's wide, it's not gigantically wide, just wider than it is tall. -
Thinking about making the switch to FAR.

I installed FAR this weekend. I don't do spaceplanes, and for me it was a "meh" experience. I built a very simple rocket, and learned that MechJeb and FAR do not get along at all. I was better off manually flying the rocket than I was letting MJ do the ascent, and I messed with the settings like crazy. I will say it takes A LOT less DV to make orbit if you design streamlined rockets. And MJ's landing prediction is nowhere even close to accurate with FAR installed. Oh, I only missed my landing target by 70km? But after watching my rockets have less than a 5degree angle of attack and tumbling out of control, I uninstalled it. -

Like Jouni, I have no idea what those numbers mean. And I don't want to glom on 6 48-7S engines for each aerospike. The 4xLV-909/'spike won't cut it either. -

For me, it's 4 aerospikes and drop tanks for Tylo. Although, everything I do is with 2 man lander cans now. -

Once I started designing landers that can land on a 30 degree incline and not tip over, all of them are easy. I see some of your landers and I just shake my head. All of my landers are wider than they are tall. Since then, all the landable bodies are a cakewalk. Yes, even Tylo. I don't even bother to look for flat places to land. I avoid crater/canyon walls, and I just land wherever. -
Purdue has a good program as well - though that may be more on the aeronautics than the aerospace side.

For those who insist it isn't The Mun: Set it as a focus view in the game, and pull up the information on it by clicking on the icon on the right side of the map screen. Please share your results. Or, click on the link regex posted above. It's THIS ONE.

Since they never know who they are really sending email to, I will sometimes respond from an email account I don't care about, and just take up their time. If it is from a 'female' and she mentions God in the email, I usually go into a "I've been praying for someone to find me" diatribe about God finally sending me a bride. Depends on my mood. I've been everything from a multi millionaire philanthropist, to a terminally person who is looking to is looking to leave their money to someone. Sometimes I act suicidal if they don't respond the way I hope they do. Depending how much bait they take depends how far I go with it. I just keep them busy.

How to calculate how much DV you need?
EdFred replied to DuartePires's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Something is odd with that dV chart. How do you aerobrake going to Moho, Dres, and Eeloo? -
How does it fly with only one wing? I only draw straight lines, or use a french curve or compass so it's better than I can probably do.

I don't mind the snow. But my next house is either having a heated or covered driveway.

I think that is larger than the circle on the floor of the VAB. It would also be disqualified for that reason. -

I made my choice, the first option, and stuck with it.

So can the ships only reach the destination? If they can only reach the destination, now you're stuck on another ship, and everyone starves, including yourself.
