Stock Game not very fun without Delta-V & TWR readout
X-SR71 replied to Kobymaru's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Engine thrust is already shown in the game. ISP is already shown in the game. Mass is already shown in the game. Why the heck not show a simple delta-v and TWR readout already. The player has all that information, but is forced to calculate the resulting delta-v and TWR by hand. Not very friendly at all. It's silly we have to install KER to actually make the game easier than stock. I'd say stock KSP is more for hardcore gamers than for us casual gamers who simply want to have fun and not bother with math and spreadsheets. I feel sorry for the console players who don't even know if their rocket is going to lift. -
Where would be the proper place to report bugs in 1.4.1 and Making History? So far I have: 1. The new service modules with the explosive doors: If you start with the shroud off (doors already open), switch to another vessel, and switch back, the shroud will appear and there will be no way to remove it. 2. Saved built fairings are not persisted when adding it to a new craft. I can save a part with a built fairing, which will disappear the moment it is added to another craft, either through a sub-assembly or through the 'Merge' feature when loading crafts. 3. My 2 stars Kerbals have parachutes. Supposedly, they would need to be level 3. Not sure if this is a bug or intended.

A bit worried here. KSP managed to do so well without a publisher, selling some 2 million copies. What would a publisher bring to the table now, years after the release, besides a quick cash infusion? I'm sure the money is probably great, but I feel a bit sad Squad decided it would be worth it to sell the rights of their masterpiece which they put so much effort and love into.

I've been living under a rock and havent played KSP since before the satellite network feature. Though, I've been keeping up with the news from time to time, hoping the game would evolve to the direction I hope for. Sadly for me it hasn't been the case. Although new features are always welcome, I often wonder why some obscure features get incorporated into stock while others blatantly needed features keep being overlooked. We got the whole satellite network feature, with all its complexity; we got the whole localization effort which involves retexturing a good part of the game; we got some sort of mod which has to do with a telescope thing around eve or something like that; but still.. STILL delta-v readouts aren't part of the stock game??? That's like super basic when compared to all the other complex features being put into stock! One might say 'there are mods for that'. But I'm willing to bet most of the player base has a delta-v readout mod installed. How can that not be stock, while some specific telescope mission is? What is the criteria for choosing what goes into stock? Also, the game keeps getting much more complex. I know you can switch the satellite feature off, but should we really expect people to go on deploying whole satellite networks without a simple, integrated delta-v readout? How can the stock game not provide the necessary tools for the features it offers? I know there must be a bunch of geniuses here that don't need dv values, but for the average joe like me, you either end up having to install a mod anyway, or face constant frustration. For the next big update, I've read parts may malfunction while in-flight. Is that so? Is the game going still more complex, while still not offering a simple delta-v readout?

In 1.2, what am I missing for a signal connection?
X-SR71 replied to X-SR71's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm both unhappy AND relieved that it WASN'T that. Would've felt really stupid http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=764213830 Oh ok then! Thank you! -

Achievements would be a good reason to migrate! If we only had them..

Ahh! Great use of unused space there! Will definitely make an subassembly of that!

What is the biggest mission failure you have ever had?
X-SR71 replied to JacobJHC's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Biggest facepalm: Planned a long term laythe mission, where I would deploy a bunch of small ISRUs around the various islands, send a plane, and play around exploring and refueling everywhere, eventually establishing a base there. Many days spent building the extractors and the transfer ship, fitting everything together. Half a million credits mission. Sent the whole thing to laythe. When getting there, surprise surprise! Laythe is mineral miserable! Ore is present on only one island, and even then, the concentration is like 1%, which my small drills can't extract. Couldn't use the extractors on any other moon, as they would depend on chutes to land. Was so disappointed I let the whole contraption burn and explode in the atmosphere. -
Only one major rule: leave no kerbal behind. I actually have a problem with this, and as a result will do only one manned mission at a time.

Completely solid-fueled first stages?
X-SR71 replied to MedwedianPresident's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I also often use SRBs only for first stage. When doing so, I don't bother with turning - too risky, and simply launch straight up until the boosters are dropped. -
Slap a circular intake, a small fuel tank, a juno engine and a couple of the small control surfaces as wings and it makes a great plane/submarine as well!

Looks cool! Hey does closing the intakes do anything (for the aerodynamic model)? -
So, why do we get Tri-couplers before Bi-couplers?
X-SR71 replied to Sarxis's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
On a side note, they're both absolutely useless. No surface attachments, no fuel crossfeed, unecessary mass. You're better off with cubic struts.. -
Moho. I do hate it. No matter how much dv I take, I always fall short. I believe it takes infinite dv to get there and back.

What music do you listen to while playing KSP?
X-SR71 replied to Scenter102's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I listen to Space Travel Radio: http://www.spacetravelradio.de/ -
Not a base per se, but I like to send relatively small unmanned extractors (drills + ISRU) to various points on planets/moons. They work like small gas stations.
-
The ISRU. I use it in all my interplanetary crafts. It's great but I do feel it gives an unfair advantage. I mean, extract ore from practically anywhere and fill up the tank? It's so good that I can't find myself not using it!

Power for ISRU on Pol
X-SR71 replied to davidpsummers's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm 90% sure ore concentration increases both mining rate AND electrical consumption. Not long ago I made a ship with 4 RTGs and 6 fuel cells to complement them. No solar panels. Depending on ore concentration, I had to turn on the fuel cells. Small ISRU and small drill. By the way, I tend to travel to jool alot, and after the update which nerfed solar panels, I don't ever bother with them anymore. RTGs, batteries and fuel cells for me. -
High delta V spacecraft
X-SR71 replied to Buzz light fear's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
http://meithan.net/KSP/engines/ For 20000m/s dv, I see only Ion as a solution. Perhaps you're better off with a simple ISRU setup and LV-N. You can make a small craft with the small ISRU, drills, ore tank, fuel cells, a single LV-N, have about 10m/s dv, and refuel in low gravity moons.
