i do not like extroverts and neither does my cat.

i never use pre shredded cheese. its got so much corn starch in it that the cheese gets a gritty taste. i take my cheese seriously. that said i think i spent $18 for a 2 pound block. i had to go with pre sliced pepperoni as i couldn't get the whole sausage. sometimes i dont understand grocery store logic. they will have 6 brands of spaghetti sauce, each brand will have 8 flavors. 3 different brands of alfredo sauce (i make a mean chicken fettuccini), and 4 flavors each. then they will have one jar of pizza sauce, one brand, one flavor. im not so good at Italian sauces so i just buy it in a jar (and frankly reduced prego tastes better than the pizza sauce). i can end up making 2 medium sized pizzas for the price of ordering a large one. but our pizza joint is excellent. the big thing we cant get is produce. you can get it, but it has no shelf life an even if you eat it before it goes bad its not very good. things like citrus or melons barely survive a couple days. lots of stuff from california is especially low quality, stuff from washington is better. there is actually considerable farmland around anchorage and so a lot of stuff is grown in our state, its just the logistics from southeast alaska to the pacific us states is cheaper/faster and the goods are cheaper from there as well.

leftover pizza? what are we, barbarians? ive tried my own pizza but the results were not as good. it was pretty basic, i just did just pepperoni. my sister used frozen dough, but i made my own from scratch (i have some bread making experience). i thought i could save money over the local pizza joint. but i had 2 problems. one was that my oven doesn't get hot enough. the other was that i was spending enough on ingredients that it was cheaper just to leave it to the professionals.

my sister made good pizza once. it was good because it was like one inch of crust/sauce, one inch of cheese, and 2 inches of toppings. most of which were meat various meats. there was 2 kinds of pepperoni, salami, 3 kinds of bacon (hickory, maple, and canadian), 4 kinds of saussage (pork, italian, moose and blackbear), hamburger, chicken, smoked salmon, wild mushrooms, onions, 3 different colors of bell pepper, black and green olives, and a few things i couldn't identify.

il use cool whip in a pinch. in a town with two grocery stores its not uncommon to run out of things especially around the holidays. last thanksgiving i bought my whip cream 3 weeks in advance. the previous year i had to use cool whip because i didn't secure my supply. miracle whip on the other hand is disgusting,

if im making a stir fry and there are mushrooms in the fridge, im putting them in. they have a way of soaking up sauce that makes them delicious.
-
you can also use mayo in a pinch.

i swear by my gotham steel. cermet coated, so you could probibly use it as a re-entry shield. also bacon is glorious.

i can think of a dozen answers to this riddle and not one of them appropriate for this forum. -
Was A Guy Trying To Scam Me? Please Explain If You Can

you are more likely to be harmed by a family member than a stranger, statistically speaking. -
well i live in a petersburg and i can confirm that our sea lions are bigger than yours. once saw a big one sunning himself on the floatplane dock (i was in a boat getting fuel on my way to my sister's house). i didn't have my camera with me unfortunately. he was just lounging about and didn't give a crap about all the activity in the marina. probibly got his fill of herring too. you are more likely to see one than not.

last time my cats had fleas their topical, which had worked very well the previous time, didnt seem to work at all. so i hit the little buggers with a different poison, it wasnt long before i had happy cats again. it is critical to rotate your poisons, because them little buggers will just evolve right under your nose. professional exterminators say the same thing.

today i had to drill some holes in an old gpu heat sink so i could mount it to a pcb that needed cooling. while i have metric drills and taps, i ended up spacing the holes out in freedom units. the reason for that was that the square i have has a ruler with inches on one side and mm on the other. it just so happened that when i went to score a line on the pcb to setup my hole pattern, that side was inches. i couldn't maneuver the square the other way around and get a good line. so i spaced my holes in inches. i suspect at some point in the future, when someone recovers the bits from the junk heap, they are going to scratch their head and wonder why the hell i was mixing units.

3 would have been good if they didn't screw up the special effects and kill the all the survivors of aliens.
-
i just watched moonfall. i think the movie would have been better if they just skipped the first half where all they did is spew scientifically questionable bs in a lame attempt to setup the rest of the movie. after all the work the expanse did to raise the bar, sucks to see them throw it on the floor again. as bad as it was, its still not the worst movie ive seen in the last few years.
-
yea but thats hitting your gpu, not your processor.

would also work on surface bases on bodies with noticeable but weak gravity. where floating your way to your destination is complicated by deflecting towards the ground, the fans would cancel that out. another use case might be in zero gravity sports.
-
that could work, but i question the safety and comfort of a head first configuration. how long can you look directly up at the ceiling without neck strain? you are going to need to do something like that to see where you are headed and if you hit something you are hitting it head first. it would certainly reduce your drag in situations where you have a lot of distance to cover or if its using some kind of guidance. an adaptive system capable of either might be a good idea. articulated mountings or multiple fans for full 6dof flight with some kind of computer vision system to avoid collisions and aid in guidance.

Was A Guy Trying To Scam Me? Please Explain If You Can

i ignore anyone who solicits me in public, usually accompanied by looking at them crosseyed. that said i have enough money grubbing parasites in my family. i usually give them the same treatment. they all "own" big cars, boats, houses and dont pay their bills. they buy too much stuff on credit and then beg the poorer members of the family to help cover the costs. not one ever paid me back or so much as given me a ride to work. needless to say i dont talk to those people any more. family members get one. i also kind of worked in a pawn shop at one point. so ive seen almost every scam known to man. if someone hocks something, and leaves their id, its probibly fake and the item is probibly stolen. a copy of the pawn slip, along with their fingerprint and a scan of their id, goes to the police. every couple of weeks an officer would come by with a stack of pawn slips if items which were reported stolen. the day i started working there an employee was getting canned for stealing high value items, apparently when he filled out the pawn slips he altered the descriptions so they matched other cheaper items on the pull lists (items which are put up for sale after the load period expires). he then bought them as those items. but he was able to return them so they didnt call the cops. and thats just a tiny subset. cant trust anyone. -
im just saying that original 5800x is pretty good already. ive thrown some absurd spacecraft at it and it barely slowed down at all, and my mods list fills a page.
-
ksp runs pretty well on the 5800x, the old one without the fancy cache. its going to be better than that seeing as kerbal is cpu limited, but i cant imagine it being that much of an improvement.
-
for zooming around inside pressurized spaces in zero g, i think a ducted fan pack would probibly suffice. pretty much a drone you wear on your back. would do the job but without being to high performance to be unsafe. i cant imagine a wing pack being better.

i think the transit method would require sending a telescope to the outskirts of the solar system as you need the planets in the foreground. this would need to be far enough out and could only detect planets inside its orbit. its also very unlikely that any new planets are on the ecliptic, otherwise we would have detected them already. so you would probibly need multiple scopes at different phases in the orbit to increase the odds of observing a transit. another issue is time, its going to take a long time if the planet is say at its aphelion as the orbital period is likely to be on the order of centuries to millennia. it would take decades to get the scopes into position. there is also the wobble method, but it seems like that wobble would gravitationally couple with the observing orbit and make it harder to detect. this could be measured a lot closer to the sun, and that might actually be advantageous. i think this method has already been used to look for exoplanets extra planets. there are scientists who will claim that every gravity source in the solar system is accounted for. if we find anything its going to be mostly small kbos, and likely a lot of them. anything in the oort cloud probibly doesn't have that much gravitational influence over the sun.

totm may 2022 What musical instrument(s) do you play?
Nuke replied to AlamoVampire's topic in The Lounge
this thread inspired me to dust off my guitar and play a few chords. i realized i was still bad, unplugged all the things, and returned the guitar to its case, stuck it in the closet and closed the door. crunch box still works surprisingly, even though only two of the knobs seem to do anything. the schematic i used was vague about what value and type to use. i also took some liberties with the bom. omitted was the stomp switch (why would i want to turn it off?) and rather than the high quality audio opamp referenced in the design, which has 2 channels, i used a pair of general purpose opamps. its still technically a class a amplifier so there is that. it uses a pair of red leds to chop the signal, supposedly the semiconductors in red make the audio sound better. i always wondered what would happen if i put blue ones in it. -
totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Nuke replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
gwar is stuck in my head again, meat sandwich this time. i dont like to post gwar videos, you never know when the cuttlefish of cthulhu will rear his ugly head and get me forum banned. don't look that up.
