  1. this most certainly looks like a place you dont want to go.
  2. had my second dose on thrusday. what followed were a couple days of fever where i didn't feel like doing much of anything. i think that's the response you want, full mobilization of the immune system.
  3. such a shame. when i stopped drinking it, i think they had the code red and regular, i havent tried any of the new flavors. all i drink now is a rotating flow of dr pepper, coke, and squirt. not much variety where i live.
  4. i miss black. it tasted like grape nerds.
  5. tomatoes are for sauces. though i did make a blt yesterady and it was pretty good. anything is good with bacon on it.
  6. but they didnt know that at the time. and being exposed to constant german propaganda they were likely more afraid of the soviets than the brittish and american forces.
  7. they certainly didn't want to spend the post war years in a siberian gulag, or worse if such a thing exists.
  8. i wonder if the 1600 figure includes support personnel, assistants and technicians for example, but not quite falling under the umbrella term "scientist". there might also be some discrepencies for scientists in fields other than rocketry (for example nuclear or jet aircraft).
  9. i once had and turned down an opportunity to see gwar. i really regretted not getting to go, opting instead to study for some college exam in some server os that the industry has long since retired and which never served a useful purpose once in my life. i think they are still around but without oderus's stage presence, whats the point of seeing it live? new guy has a great metal voice but i dont think he delivers a fraction of the same showmanship. not posting a video because im pretty sure the cuttlefish of cthulu would violate forum rules. i should have played hookey like i did when i went to go see that other band which i no longer like during linux class. i believe it was tool or something idk. and that's why i dont know how to use grep.
  10. we had like about a dozen people administering vaccines. you would come in, fill out a form, then you would get your injection, then you kind of go in a socially distanced waiting area for 15 minutes to see if you have any reaction to the vaccine. then you get your vaccination card and you can leave. so there may have been 10-20 people in the waiting area when i was there. assuming the waiting area remains at that level throughout the day, thats at least 40-80 vaccinations a day. seemed like a pretty efficient operation. we were there 20 minutes tops. i think the main limiting factor should be the availability of the vaccines themselves. they do little good if they stay in the fridge.
  11. its mostly because i live in a smaller town of about 3k, and we only have had like 200-300 doses issued so far. i was really lucky to get one. but since the vaccines are supposedly highly perishable they would rather give them out than throw them out. so even if you aren't in the current age bracket, you can get on the waiting list. and if they have vaccines left they will start calling people further down the list to come get the shot. in my case i was in the building dropping mom (who is a senior) off for her vax and they offered it to me on the spot because they had lower turnout than expected. i dont expect this to be the case in bigger cities though. on the side effects front the injection site now feels like somone punched me in the arm really hard, and it really put me out because i slept for 12 hours last night. there was also nausea, but that probably had something to do with trying to get my vr headset to stream over wifi.

    Social Media fasts

i can understand why facebook doesnt have it. because if you are meeting up with your friends you aren't consuming the unending stream of spam facebook churns out.
  13. as a care giver i was able to get on the b list for vaccinations, and it turns out there were a lot of no-shows today. so i just had my first dose. i got the mederma vaccine and have my second dose scheduled in a few weeks. so far no side effects.

    Social Media fasts

i had to set up a facebook account to use my oculus quest 2 that i got for xmas. i did have an old facebook account that i opened a few years ago. after i started it, it only took 3 minutes for me to decide i didnt want to use facebook anymore and told them to delete the account. which they obviously didn't do. the login still worked so i used that one. so i put every security and privacy setting to the most restrictive option and haven't logged in since. i dont use any other social media platforms. i remember back when myspace was a thing when it was called 'social networking'. that was actually a useful thing to have. it let me connect to people in my own town, and i got several dates with people i met on the service. the ability to chit chat with people in your own area was very useful thing to have. it was great tool for a recluse to meet people. facebook didnt have any of this. they wanted you to give them your friend's email addresses. and you couldn't search for people in your own area and friend them. they seem more interested in bombing you with random junk that you dont care about and have taken the social aspects completely out of it. if anything it drives a wedge between people just to make a buck. this is why we cant have nice things.
  15. i think the cost of space stations are actually due to shipping fees. it might cost a fortune but at least the tracking is really good.
  16. rarity would be dependent on location. say alien life develops on a planet that is very gold rich. it might be regarded as a useful metal, but not exactly rare enough to be used currency.
  17. gold has other properties that make it a desirable currency beyond its color. though i think our assigning value to gold is cultural rather than physical.
  18. a star destroyer in the same orbit as the iss would be like 15 times bigger.
  19. yea, but i think at that point it stops being a space suit and starts being a very bad spacecraft.
  20. im getting tired of people on the ground in scifi films looking up and seeing large spacecraft floating stationary overhead. i know star trek/wars has tech magic that makes anti gravity possible. its silly to explain that to somone who has seen the dot sized iss zoom across the night sky. they should at least make an attempt to make the technology seem feasible in both its usage and its exhibition.
  21. my game engine is still a clunky mess and i still have no idea what kind of game to make with it. im also getting stupid in my old age.
  22. i think i spend more time talking about games in forums than actually playing them.
