I don't see clipping parts as a finished or unfinished game element. They attach as you want them (the "finished" game version), and you can move them around with slick tools.... That seems almost more "finished" as it gives you more options, no?
-
I clip, to make awesomeness. The new offset and rotate tools make it easier than ever and don't require you to get into the debug menu. That's a defacto endorsement, in my eyes. You can accomplish so much more if you don't worry about it. I'll tweak the scale of anything too. I mean, if I need it, I'd tell the engineers to go build it.

They are indeed prettier, but don't function as you need. Decisions, decisions. There is also that sweet interstage base, which allows for some funky designs too.

Eight-symmetry in spaceplane hangar?
klesh replied to THX1138's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's hard for me to remember because I use Editor Extensions mod, but can't you click on the symmetry type button to change it back and forth? -
Wait, when is your transparent logo being placed on a white flag? I'm not understanding your problem now. You should be able to achieve not having a flag on your ship, just the nice logo with transparency. Are you wanting to have an EVA-placed flag, with just your logo (and no white flag behind it) dangling from the pole? I think it would look weird, but in that case, TextureReplacer mod is what you need. You need to find the texture for the EVA flag pole, and edit it to not have a while flag background.

Hi, welcome to the forums from the USA.

I remember it. I was 7 years old and in 3rd grade. We were all in home-room class and watched it on the tv's they wheeled in. Needless to say it was a shock. I don't remember if we turned it off, What I do remember was the teacher's reaction. They had really sold the teacher-in-space aspect, and I live only a few miles from where Christa McAuliffe was from. It was a huge thing at the time. I remember we we did memorials and everything afterward. We even sang a song in the chorus about it. I think it was called Reach for the Stars. Man, it brings back memories.

I think a kid between the ages of 10-15 would be a good time to start playing. Any younger and sure they might have fun, but they wont "get it". Disclaimer: I dont have kids, and I really don't know what their abilities at certain ages are very much.

I loved you in Wham! Enjoy KSP!

Shift + Tab != turn on engines
klesh replied to THX1138's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
After this happening many times, I too shut down (off) my engines after making my major burns for a trip. One of the first things I do when I jumpt to any craft is look at if the engines are on or not. Additionally, I just hit escape everytime I want to use the screenshot uploader, or view the overlay in any way. Botching your mission enough times makes this something you really will remember. -
Stock fairings: Procedural or not?
klesh replied to FishInferno's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I use procedural fairings (not just for fairings, mind you, they have structural versions as well), and I am glad they're going that route with the stock fairings. I too, would like better textures on them, particularly the inside, but I see how that could be difficult. I hope that they allow you as much flexibility as the ones in the Procedural Fairings mod does. -
I only paid £10 for Kerbal Space Program, and I feel bad about it.
klesh replied to DBT85's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I posted the same a few days ago. I'm sure I bought it on sale for way less than I've gotten out of it. You should buy your friends some copies on Steam if you're feeling flush, or buy some spares and give them away as a fun contest or whatever. -
You should be good to go then, it's working as you (and I) want it. Thats exactly what I have, the KASA worm logo as just red lettering on my ships, then the picture I posted above which puts a flag behind my "flag" when I plant one on EVA. It would look silly if the EVA flag was just a floating KASA logo, right? Make your transparent logo, save it as .png in GameData\Squad\flags and it should look great on your ships and look like a flag too when you place it. If you want something that matches or works with your tansparent logo (like a red flag field instead of white), that gets slightly more complicated but probably doable. Does that help?

I think what the OP means, is when you use a transparent logo for your flag, the game still puts a blank white flag background behind it when you place a flag on EVA. The "flag" I picked in the VAB for this mission is simply the red KASA worm logo with a transparent background. Looks great on the side of your ships as just lettering. When placed as an EVA flag, the game appears to stick the white minimalist.png flag behind yours. http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/541887966882001047/FE89D0C649EEC1A405BEA56CB1CBE52C17F11658/ I am willing to bet that the fabric area is part of the 3D flag model, and what looks like the game putting minimalist.png under your chosen flag is actually the texture on the flag model itself. Don't quote me on that. Edit: in which case the TextureReplacer mod is what you'd want.

Squadcast Summary (24/01/2015) - The Valentina Edition
klesh replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Tasty update. Looking forward to it. -
Wow, that is quite strange isn't it? You guys build your rockets from the bottom? I always start mine from the "pods" category and go from there. In this case it was a satellite, and the corresponding rocket below it. Anyway, I used the re-root tool, selected the AV-8 Winglet at the bottom, then the solid booster such that I believe the booster is now my root. I rebuilt both fairings to remove the TR-2V decouplers and start anew. Followed the usual build-out steps, and wouldn't you know it works almost exactly as expected when I launch! Indeed the cup stays on the jettisoned stage, and it decouples just fine. It works almost correct with the one exception that SAS turns off everytime I decouple a stage. The SAS is in the probe core and functions normally at liftoff, but then I get the orange disengaged message when I stage. http://i.imgur.com/0ZUDV61.jpg I simply press T again and it turns back on, but it's not ideal right. I suppose that is an affect of the re-rooting? I never ever use that tool, so I don't know if that's a common thing. Did yours do that? If this is too many posts on the issue, feel free to PM me and we can continue there.

Yes, of course. After you reduce the nodes to one, I put one fuselage fairing on the one node left on the fairing base side, and viola, there is my cylindrical fairing. Here's potentially the issue. There is nothing attached to the floating node. I attach that to the bottom of the engine bell and thats it. Pictures of this look just like yours, I'll make a sketch in a little while that maybe shows it better. http://i.imgur.com/QIpW6dL.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ckefEsf.jpg From there, I lower the height till the bottom of the bell is just above the fairing base. I then extend the "extra height" until it it touches the top of the rocket engine. http://i.imgur.com/BBbIfIl.jpg Reduce nodes to 1. Add fairing. http://i.imgur.com/F3ljy3b.jpg (I do it 2x on this rocket, once above the solid booster, and once for the 3rd stage with the orange tank) You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Kowgan again.

Sorry, I was presuming maybe Kowgan new something you didn't about this. I'll try adding KJR (thanks for linking it), and report back. So, the design is sound, its just going to work as expected with that mod then. Right. Good!

High five! That's a landmark achievement in any space program. Congrats.
