[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
viktor19 replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Wow! This is...a lot of useful info. Thanks for such deep analysis of my problem. One rarely sees such commitment to fixing someone's problem in this forum. I will definitely try your advices written above. One more question: how come this problems don't bother the real Dream Chaser? Could it be because of different body design? I recall in the pictures that DC has flat bottom.- 14,073 replies

What is your favorite "I did it!" Moment?
viktor19 replied to Sgt.Shutesie's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When 1.0.2 SSTO with x200-32 made 80x80 orbit, and then released it's payload and safely landed on KSC's runway. -
Probably yes, because the air is denser during the day because of lack of Kerbol's direct heating. I agree with monophonic, your piloting is never exactly the same, so that has much bigger impact on your dV requirements

Shock Cone Intake vs Ram Air Intake
viktor19 replied to _stilgar_'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This great forum community taught me not to trust the part descriptions, especially those written by Squad. Regarding the intake dilemma, I also read somewhere that shock cone has better heat resistance and is less draggy. The second one probably makes up for less Intake air capacity (difference is only 0.1, folks!) -
Directed here from official FAR thread. I have a question regarding the building of airplanes/spaceplanes. While flying, my SNC Dream Chaser replica tends to go into combined pitch and yaw, resulting in unrecoverable stall. I've read somewhere that dihedral wings "under" the COM make a stable combination. However, it seems that is not the case here. I haven't took any pictures yet so you'll have to wait a bit. Thanks in advance!

Can someone write some general instructions on installing EVE? Tried few different combos with some peculiar results.

*spreads his arms and looks to the sky* Oh, cleansing rain! My laptop's cooling pad is turned on all the time. However, before the heat wave I was staying at grandma's. Without the pad, laptop reached some pretty impressive temperatures (talking about the 90s range, celsius folks!) Back to the topic, my city can have pretty awful weather. During the winter, rain is very common. On September 29, 2013 it was the rainiest city in the world. Summer is a whole different story - temperature is known to rise close to 40 degrees. There are a lot of jokes about weather, most common is the dilemma "umbrella or sunglasses?"

Is Tantares configured for the DRE? I have already searched the thread but couldn't find any conclusive answer. Combining the two yielded some pretty weird results...

I've narrowed it down to DRE+Tantares. It seems that DRE doesn't have configs for Tantares parts.
-
You haven't understood me: there is no heating whatsoever.
-
Modified the file with no result. Also, noticed that in the action menu there are no values next to units of measurement.
-
So...to modify heating to a reasonable level I need to set all heat factors to 1, or should I still edit the .cfg? Can you recommend what should I do from these two?
-
Has anyone been having problems with heating? My mk1 pod's shield "heats up" to only 270 degrees while in upper atmosphere, and then abruptly to 500-600 at approximately 11 km altitude. I have to point out that no ablator is consumed in process. Still, deceleration force peaks at 7-9 g. Tried with stock, release DRE and development DRE, no results. Thanks in advance!

I'd say diagonally opposite, for example mimicimg the shape of a plane's wing. No wonder those smallish replicas have 150+ parts.

Aerocapture in 1.0.4?
viktor19 replied to Casper139's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Earlier today, I rewatched that home video tape on YT, when I opened this thread, Columbia was the first thing that came to my mind. Although, that was caused by structural failure (caused by heat getting into the wing). -
As Starwhip said, RO demands several mods, and that's just the bare minimum. More mods you add, RO gets better. And about linux, if I read correctly, 64-bit KSP runs much better (if you mean that with linux) because it has much more RAM available. Alternatively, if KSP is run regularly (32-bit) in windows, you should definitely try this convenient trick for memory reduction.
-
Welcome aboard! If you are interested, you should definetly try RO. Installation, however, is tricky. Once you start playing RO, even the small things like getting into orbit will feel very rewarding.
-
It's a separate mod now. You can install it, but it has some minor issues.
-
I just checked, yes it was.

Some of my Tantares parts rescale while they are in orbit. I have a space station, and when I loaded it from the Tracking Station, the Salyut docking node has rescaled to stock KSP size. Has anyone encountered that?

Sentinel-2A launch atop Vega VV05 June 23rd

I think he was referring to stock KSP fairings. -
My cutie was also rescued. Mother's friend found her, few days old at the time, in the bush. She was literally meowing for her life. When she was big enough, my family took her. She likes to kill my arms, although, on occasion, the verb "slay" is much more appropriate.
