Forum Spoiler bbcode
LordFerret replied to natonator200's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is a known problem, don't think it's changed/fixed yet. See here - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/95382-Imgur-Album-embedding-no-longer-working-inside-spoiler-tags -
Glad to see you were able to resolve it!

I guess you didn't read what I wrote? That's not my suggestion, that's straight from the Devs off of the Shatters.net site. If you doubt that, I then suggest you visit the new forums at CelestialMatters and pose the question to them - they are the developers. http://forum.celestialmatters.org/index.php

You can turn the music all the way down/off in KSP and still keep all the rest of the sounds (engines/explosions/etc) while listening to whatever you want.

Yes, that's about what they cost. I have tried/listened to 'real' hi-fi equipment in my time, I found the difference negligible... despite my audiophile maniac friend insisting my ears were tin and that I was nuts. And yes, pretty much to my experience, nearly all computer accessories/components break after a year or two. But that seems to be the way of things these days - planned obsolescence. Every 6 months or so the latest greatest thing comes out making all your other stuff old news. I'm quite impressed with the sound on my laptop, pumped out to my JBL speakers it sounds pretty good... and in the Sony headphones I have too. To each his own I guess.

Dump Avast and go AVG.

I pulled out more hair today trying again to assemble my Ion ship in orbit... but this time I worked on the other side of my head so at least it looks 'balanced'. I got the engine(s) and fuel sections up and joined, lined up nicely. But in bringing up the crew module (which first has to be undocked, turned around (like the LEM), and redocked), trying to get it mated to the rest of the ship was impossible - very frustrating. It kept dancing about, as though it wasn't in docking maneuvering mode, turning and drifting like crazy ... thrusting right had it turning right, thrusting left had it turning left, and so on. I think maybe the heavy end (fuel tank) is the problem. So, I'll modify it yet again (more RCS thrusters on the tank), and try again tomorrow. Yea, I'm determined. This is try #3. Try #2, I tried putting two fuel modules, but discovered 1100+ (or was it 1200+?) part count brought my system to it's knees. :/ I'm trying to keep it just under 1000 now. I have to recalculate the weight of the ship, but it's somewhere around 80-90 tons... fuel (Xenon & RCS) included. Fun.

In using Celestia, viewing stars from Earth's surface (through Earth's atmosphere), setting it to maximum magnitude 6 stars with "fuzzy points" is a very close approximation. Out in the vacuum of space however, setting it to maximum magnitude 10 with "points" is very close to what astronauts see. That was documented on the Shatters.net forums (Celestia's forums), but those forums are no more. You might find mention of it in Celestia's Wiki.

Too many favorites here to mention. Let's just say I love music, just about all music (there are a few exceptions). When I'm playing KSP, I usually put CalmRadio.com on - the Relaxation 'Spaced' channel ... usually provides me with excellent atmosphere for KSP, plus the chance to hear new stuff. Same with SomaFM.com, their 'Groove Salad' channel can be interesting. Then there's always Classical, especially Bach... give me the Brandenburg Concertos (on period instruments) and I'm a happy Ferret.

I have over-the-ear Sony headphones (MDR-ZX100, they were a gift). Work fine for me, comfy, except the jack is "L" shaped and I'm forever getting tangled in the cord and end up ripping it out of the computer. lol *Edit* The laptop has Bang & Olufsen 'ICE Power' sound built in. Sounds great.

Banned for obsessing over ponies.

My computer turn off for no reason
LordFerret replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It's been my experience that Windows has always has issues with Sleep and Hibernation ... which is why I've always disabled them the moment I take ownership of the machine. Never had such problems however with Linux. Go figure. -
7:8 or 8:9 Resonance for 8 Satellites?
LordFerret replied to waterlubber's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
At first, I thought you were trying to put up the Iridium constellation. A full GPS constellation (currently) is 24 satellites... Iridium is 72. -
NaN as opposed to 0.0
LordFerret replied to LordFerret's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
With only two exceptions (orbit adjustments out of Kerbin's SOI), it appears most often while I'm trying to match orbit planes of other craft/stations. Sometimes I get 0.0, others (less frequent) I get NaN. So basically it is what I thought. Thanks for clarifying that. I've not yet run into the NaN Kraken (and hope to keep it that way lol). Thanks Slashy, that saves me additional head-ache trying to hit 0.0 instead. And thanks also Taki117, I'm off to go read that now. -
I had one, back in v0.23.5, one Kerbal named "Calgel", he wanted to look at sunspots ... likely dead as stone by now.

Damn, you beat me to it lol.

I'm on there. I was also on that first probe to Mars. Did you get your boarding pass?

That too would help a lot. -
My computer turn off for no reason
LordFerret replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Over the years I've run into a whole number of issues that could shut a machine down. They include the #1 mentioned thing thus far - dust/overheating. I've also seen faulty CD/DVD controllers cause shutdowns (BSOD). Failing/overheating power supplies - overuse of USBs can do this (USB extenders, USB plug-in lights, etc). Used to be that motherboards had a speaker installed (tiny and cheap, purpose to just 'beep') ... and those 'beep codes' would tell you why things were or were not happening. I'd check airflow first. You don't need to tear your machine apart to do that - just put you hand over the fan vent and see if there's airflow. Do you own pets (cat/dog)? Pet hair/fur in the machine also facilitates dust collection, which can, across open leads, cause shorts - or rather more 'shunts' and draw or interrupt power to a point where failure conditions occur and the processor says 'yikes' and shuts down. As it's been mentioned, 'one thing at a time' ... take a top-down approach... and post your results here so we can help. -
Good to know. Thanks. I'm beginning to think this game is one big Easter Egg!

Ant engines you say? Why, what else would you use them for?.....

How about "stable", because it is? lol I wonder, what backs it? Mystery Goo? lol
