Today I wrangled with an uncooperative game where, putting up new relay satellites in perfect circular orbits (ion powered, no MechJeb), I found every time I used time warp to help the wait for a satellite to reach a desired position, the damned Ap and Pe would change - because of the time warp. A few meters here, a few meters there... so inconsistent... so damned aggravating. My thinking is that this is not a thing which should be happening, there is no reason for it. Anyone else who has experienced this, feel free to chime in.

As @Streetwindabove says, and as mentioned in the article ("... the moon is riddled with mascons (regions with higher-than-average gravitational pull) ..."). I'm sure soon enough we'll be needing to monitor and track all the crap orbiting the moon, especially if Musk's endeavor becomes reality. Can't have tourists slamming into old still-orbiting junk satellites.

It appears that NASA, using a new radar technique, has found the lost Chandrayaan-1 probe. I'm kind of surprised the probe is still orbiting! https://phys.org/news/2017-03-nasa-radar-technique-lost-lunar.html

Proper ISP network management?(removal of data caps, etc.)
LordFerret replied to Arugela's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I read something somewhere one time which stated that approximately 80% of the traffic (data) over the web is graphics related advertising content. If I ever run across the article / link again, I'll post it. You want to speed up the web? Eliminate advertising. This was the same promise cable tv originally held. Ha.- 1 reply

How will kids learn the names of over 100 planets?
LordFerret replied to Spaceception's topic in The Lounge
There are over 100 countries in this world (196 at last count, or 195 if you exclude Taiwan). Can you name all of them? 7 out of 10 people I talk to have never heard of the Republic of Georgia, as a 'for instance'. Hell, most of the school kids these days can't even name all 50 states let alone the capitals of each state ... that used to be a requirement (here in the US). Memorizing the names of 100+ planets? Ha! Not going to happen. -
I often wonder, exactly how many computer geeks out there knew this:

I'll agree with a number of others who have posted the same, 'getting it' comes in stages. I've found it all as much fun as I have frustrating... and that spells: Challenge. I think pretty much everyone here, all those playing KSP, are folks who enjoy 'challenge' and the personal reward that comes from mastery.

One thing is for sure, if this venture does get successfully pulled off... it should put an end to all the naysayers regarding stuff like the 'you can't survive the Van Allen Belts' crew, and the 'we've never been to the moon' crew, and the 'Earth is flat' crew. They'll all need new hobbies.

I answered 'use for both', although I don't play Career, I only play a Science game.

Yea, that's the first thing I thought. He always seemed to be in a panic (playing the role). Now he's got nothing to worry about. RIP

My introduction to opera was, well, this... Rock operas aside, around here we refer to opera as sounding like "killings pigs"... or a very crappy browser. Take your pick.

I think the proper term is 'dummy'.

Thank you @Gaarst for bringing this back.

Just so there's no confusion here... that is from back in a day when being a 'liberal' meant exactly the opposite it does today. And on a lighter note: "He's dead, Jim." - Leonard McCoy

Humm... Well... If this means you've picked up your 60th mod to maintain a few hours ago... wow, you're one busy fella. Thanks! If this means you've hit 60 years today... congratulations on joining the OFC (Old Farts Club)... I'm a member also. They tell me these are the Golden Years, although I'm still waiting for someone to show me where all the gold is kept. No, really, Happy Birthday and many many more to you!

It's called The Peter Principal. Very common in upper management. I believe the old saying goes: Those who can, do. Those who can't, manage. Rubbermaid Commercial Products, manufacturing plant, almost entirely robotic controlled. Pallet robots move materials all over the plant, following a wire in the floor. One 'gets lost', heads out the door down the loading dock ramp. Picture this baby cruising through the parking lot, careening off of parked cars, employees running after it, as if they're going to stop it.

Vitae Lunar Sculpture Project.
LordFerret replied to UnusualAttitude's topic in Science & Spaceflight
While that is true, not everyone perceives individual works the same. Art to some is trash to others, and vice versa. IMO, the Moon is not a canvas nor a gallery for man's creations... and if it is, then I've got an idea of my own. Will my idea, and others, be permitted? Who will judge me? -
Care to cite something for me on that one?

35+ years of it. Too many stories.

Vitae Lunar Sculpture Project.
LordFerret replied to UnusualAttitude's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I can picture that, in the future, someone collecting those chits will have them up for auction on EBay... and make a small fortune. The Moon does not need "art". Tell Anilore Banon "No, thank you.", and to stick with war memorials. When we have our first battle on the Moon (or over the Moon), then we can contact her and contract her for a memorial. -
Without having to resort to posting any links, as in support for/against the idea, a simple web search on the topic will pull up plenty of articles about it. Granted, some of those articles aren't worth the screen-space they'll show up on, but others (more legitimate research/speculation on the subject) are worth examining. My opinion: Simply, we cannot say for sure yet. We know too little about it. We know more about the Moon... maybe not literally, but you get my point. There are compelling arguments for both cases. There is a chance that both cases could be true. However, I don't feel that statement holds true for Ceres.

The ETs will use those handprints to find and identify those humans on Earth... then take them up into space and expose them to vacuum, to do tests. lol The Russian soccer team has been to the Moon?!?!??
