Congratz on your 1st asteroid. Yea, you need that grabber. Also something to remember, when you go to 'dock' with the grabber, right-click the asteroid and select 'target center of mass' first... it makes life easier. Used to be if you EVA'd and jetpacked a Kerbal up to the asteroid (touching it) you could right-click and do some science (I think it was a surface sample, if I recall). Last time I tried however, it didn't work. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of Ion-powered probes. Being a religious user of the SCANsat mod, I've used Ion power to get me everywhere in the Kerbol system. You might want to consider it.

?!? You must be coming in too steep.

Kerbals. Easy to kill by accident; hard to kill by design?

Try landing him/her on the sun, I guarantee they'll die. -
Sal_vager is leaving to travel the world.

Heh... I just went and checked... you were my first 'warning', and first private message. Pretty much makes you my first 'personal' contact here. Have fun in your travels! There's a lot to see out there, so take your time and enjoy it! -
I remember reading this way back when.

I have seen this thing land at the Lakehurst Joint Base. I took pictures of it, although the ones I've posted here are not mine. It's huge.

Am I landing in London or New York ..... and then disaster.

Honestly I don't remember. 5th? 7th? 9th? Up there. It was one of the UPenn buildings (University of Pennsylvania, the Perelman cancer center). My attentions were focused elsewhere, a family member. I just happened to be sitting in a chair next to a window in the sun, trying to nap, when the quake hit.

We get a little bit of just about everything here at some point or another. I've lived through several hurricanes, storm tidal-surge floods, blizzards, forest fires (we just had one last week, a small Pinelands scrub fire, which made the news), small tornadoes (waterspouts, which I've seen out in the ocean and on the bay), and even minor earthquakes. Yes, I said earthquakes. We're not really known for earthquakes here, but we do get them. Most folks don't even notice them. The worst of which I personally experienced was while I was in a hospital in Philly, up on the top floor, back in 2011 or 2012? It had the entire building swaying back and forth... a very eerie feeling and thing to watch out the window.

Huh? Kerbol has an escape velocity of 94672.01 m/s (per the Wiki).

Past few days; Put two 50m tall comm relay towers up on Kerbin, one at each pole. They'll compliment my relay satellites. After a long wait, my burn maneuvers finally came up for Jool and Eeloo. Both ships are now on their way, respectfully. Rendezvous is in 2 years for the one, and 3 years for the other. In the process, I discovered that I'd screwed up and missed a burn window for my Eeloo SCANsat. It was supposed to have happened already (to arrive 6 months before the crew), but I neglected to set a timer in KAC. Damnit. The crew will have to wait, and behave.

I don't know about you, but I wake each morning and drink the ceremonial brew of beans in honor of the sky-god Dres.

Relay Network Moves Magical
LordFerret replied to HurricanKai's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This struck me as a good idea, so I ran with it. I've built a radio tower which is a little over 50m tall, solar powered, battery backup, even has wide angle cameras mounted up top beneath the dishes - so to monitor the Kolar Bears. I've built a rocket around it, so to speak, and in testing it works great. Next step will be to launch and drop a tower at the north and south poles of Kerbin. As for orbiting relay probes; I have 4 ion-powered probes up. They're all in the same perfectly circular orbit, 400km. Spacing them out is easy enough, just tedious... shortening (or lengthening) each orbital period until the probe falls into the desired place. The only thing it required was a little patience, no cheats involved (or MechJeb). -
What?!? No waffles!?!

Living in New Jersey (officially nicknamed "The Garden State"), I've never had any problem growing anything. I just put it in the ground and it grows... but, apparently, so do the weeds. So, gardening, while easy here, is a pain because one must regularly weed. Don't know why you're having troubles with potatoes, they're so easy even we Scots-Irish can grow them. Doesn't matter if the eye faces up, they'll grow no matter what orientation they're planted in. Just remember, each budding eye will grow a separate plant... so if your seed potato has multiple eyes, cut them up and then plant each eye individually. The only problem I've ever had with them is the damned beetles. Need I say?... check out YouTube for planting ideas. @Dman979 could even grow them in a bucket in the window (big bucket / big window).

Spent the day in NYC, wearing my Orange.

One more in here and I'm done for the day... I deorbited a "mission completed" SCANsat probe over Duna, coming down over the polar pinch. With the preliminary mapping of Duna done, I just may have to run a rover through there. Looks pretty wild.

Hummm... I thought I was the only one who put gear at the tail end of the plane, to keep the engine from dragging the runway during takeoff/rotation.

There is never enough coffee if you ask me. I have tried CTRL-Z in the past, in the VAB, and it not do what I was expecting. Half the time it did nothing, and the other half remove more than just my 'last move'.
-
Jeb, Bill, Bob, and Val, are all just figureheads... they're PR reps for the media... that's why I never send them on missions, I always use the 'others' - you know, those 'Red Shirts'.

I built and launched a little ion tug so to move my Hubble telescope up to a higher orbit. All went well until I undocked the tug. I'd left SAS on course hold, and while undocking the telescope, also on course hold, it swung around smashing into the tug and obliterating its solar panels (it also took out two of the tug's four panels). Doh. I ended up deorbiting the whole mess. I still have a Duna encounter coming up; I've been patiently waiting on a ship on its way out there. Let's see what kind of trouble I can get into with that.

You can climb it. Try it. The view from the top is really nice. ...and then there's that jet-pack thingie on your back.

Two days ago it was in the 70's (°F), beautiful weather. Yesterday morning it was 17°F. This morning it's 39°F and raining with high winds (gusts up to 60mph, nearly 'gale force')... that big storm is hitting us. Due to the current position of the storm, the winds are blowing in from the ocean..... I was just outside for a few; How nice to be able to smell the sea air from here (I'm about 20 miles inland).
