  1. Gameplay balance. If you were looking for an in-universe answer, I can't provide it. If one was completely crazy, they could propel a giant ship with a crud-ton of ion thrusters. But part count says "no" before they even get it into space. Of course, there are those with computers that CAN handle upwards of 1000 parts. Thus, this limits them from using the most efficient thruster in the game for everything. And besides, in some cases, a small ion probe might actually be cheaper than a larger LV-N probe. (And heck, ion probes are so small most of the time; you could put them on an LV-N ship and double your overall delta-V (provided you ditch the LV-N stage later)
  2. This. Also, I think the key to difficulty is not "Do moar contracts!", but being forced to do harder contracts. After all, you COULD do 10 "put satellite around blah" contracts, or you could do a giant Duna mission, with limits on engineering, having to cobble together a rocket, and hoping it works, and when it DOES, you'll be welcomed home as heroes, or die trying. Nobodies going to hail you as a hero if you do a really easy mission, 10, maybe 40 times. This is really the ultimate gameplay balance question. It's *really* hard to do proper difficulty, without making a hundred special cases for each difficulty. Challenge the player, or let them fail trying, is what I say. (of course, if you DO like the easier contracts, there's always Normal mode.) The closest thing to these, I think are the Asteroid contracts. Extremely hard to do, but when they work, they pay big. tl;dr gameplay balance, and making difficulty without adding grindy elements is hard.
  3. Hit F1, it will take a screenshot and store it in the "Screenshots" folder in your KSP directory. EDIT: Alternatively, if you're using Steam to play, you can press F12 (or whatever you assigned to screenshots on steam)
  4. According to reddit... "...open up the debug menu with Alt-F12, find the page with the various cheats (like part clipping, I think the tab is called Gameplay Tweaks) then hold Alt for a couple seconds. Some buttons should appear to let you raise/lower funds, science, and reputation." EDIT: Ninja'd.
  5. Holy... Those are amazing! If I didn't just give you rep (it says I have to "spread it around"), I would give you rep again Always nice to have alternate textures for basic parts. (I suppose the alternate-textures look a little more "refined", or low-contrast?) I incredibly like the green for the 1.25m tanks. I probably won't use them in my own game (too used to the stock parts), but for those looking for a change, these seem great. edit: (One small gripe, the half-orange tank looks a little TOO low-contrast, kinda looks mostly grey aside from the rivets. Still, seeing as these are in-progress, and i'm not using them, I don't really have a right to complain, do I? My absolute favourite of the bunch so far might be the half-long 1.25m tank.)
  6. Made this for a KSP mod: It's not nearly done to a point where i'm wholly satisfied, but i'm pretty dang satisfied, especially since this is one of my first "serious" models. I'll add further details, like small wiring and shading to the textures later.
  7. This. This... I don't know what this is, but it doesn't happen normally. Something tells me the game installation messed up, because this is a VERY weird bug. @OP regarding broken image link: You *almost* posted it right, but instead of posting the link to the imgur site itself, you had to put in the img URL (Obtained by right clicking the image on the imgur site itself, and it should say something like "Copy Image URL". In this case, the image URL for the weird stayputnik core image was http://i.imgur.com/450qWb7.jpg, and the other picture was http://i.imgur.com/Xi3ZcDa.jpg. Then, wrap those in IMG ([ IMG ] and [ /IMG ], without spaces) tags, and it should appear normally.
  8. Hm, didn't know about this; it makes sense though, the OKTO2 was really the best probe-core due to it's weight (or rather, severe lackthereof) before.
  9. 7.5/10, Seen you rather frequently, but not ridiculously frequently.
  10. Could be confusing; as it's possible to send the satellite with an atomic generator, and I think that'd allow the contract to complete. How about sustainable power as a choice of wording? Covers pretty much everything, included by mods or otherwise.
  11. Hm, now that I think about it, it may be preferable to use a docking port, so you can reuse the cargo bay. I've always been using decouplers without really thinking about it.. But yeah, you need a decoupler/dockingport/other detachable thing to get the cargo out.
  12. That gives me an idea... ...If one should be so lucky as to get an Ike asteroid contract, they should use it to make a Magic Boulder replica, using green lights and stuff. Maybe texture editing to make the asteroid darker, screenshot it, and share it? Won't look like the real thing, of course, but, you know, nostalgia. I may or may not be surprised if anyone gets the reference.
  13. To be honest, this is my favourite part of the game, there's no "right" way to play. Excuse me, i'm going to blow up a few buildings with boosters now.(also, autocorrect, if you think "favourite" is wrong one more time...)
  14. 2/10, the name seems somewhat familiar, but I really recognize people based on avatars/signatures, so I can't really be sure...
  15. According to the chart, level 4.25, i've Entered the SOI of every stock planet (and moon) Interacted on the forums (see: what i'm doing right now), and I'd like to think I spend a good amount of time on the gameplay answers thread; helping people out. Been working on some mods (if only to practice, the one i've been showing on some threads I don't think is ready yet, but I do have a good idea that i'm making the model for..) ...But I haven't made youtube videos, I doubt many people know who I am, etc, etc. (I do have 2 rep blobs now, mostly from helping people/making them laugh) ...And I haven't watched most of Scott Manley's videos.
  16. I accepted this contract once in fineprint. It was only because the deadline was huge and the advance was ridiculous, and I knew I was going to wrap up the career save anyways. It will be incredibly hard, and you will need all your skill and mettle to pull it off. DO IT. (At least they don't want it in orbit around Moho?) (Just an FYI, if you do this, be sure to add RCS thruster blocks onto your ship for fine control, otherwise you'll never forgive yourself. Actually, just put RCS thruster blocks on all your ships, they're crazy useful.)
  17. Honestly, I agree with all but one. For whatever reason, I *really* like the research facility music. Am I alone in this? But yeah, the VAB music is... repetetive, to put it nicely.
  18. Made a structural plate for my WIP mod; not ready for release yet. But soon I might release a dev build, but not until after I retouch the textures (let's face it, most of em are ugly) I'm actually not sure about releasing it; i'm not sure the wooden parts will have any use in an actual game. (They're low-tech, and lighter, but they break a lot easier.) Still, it's been fun making the parts, if only for practice.
  19. Frequently, from CPU overheating. Never at really critical moments though, just annoying. (especially when testing part packs)
  20. It's certainly possible, the "solar station" contract is actually just a general space station contract that can be linked to any body, so it could be spawned for minmus, the mun, Duna, etc. In this case, you need to get a station with 12 kerbals in orbit around the sun. Anyways, I figure the easiest way would just to send 12 kerbals (using command pods, or hitchhiker modules, if you have them) into Solar orbit. However, don't expect to be able to get them back; it's really hard to meet up with another craft in solar orbit. (And yes, command pods do count towards the 12 kerbal total, and it's perfectly possible with only the regular parts.) EDIT: Completely missed that, the above post mentions that you don't even have to have 12 kerbals in the station, so in theory you could send it into solar orbit with a probe core, and no kerbals, but with enough space to *store* 12 kerbals.
  21. I think it might be randomly-determined on game-load, and since it uses the name as a random seed and since the name should be the same one each time, it's always the same; which is really weird, considering it limits what modders can do with classes (without breaking every save, anyways) In theory, it should mean if you have a Kerbal named Billy-Bobdock on one save, and he's a pilot, if you get another kerbal named Billy-Bobdock in another save, he'll also be a pilot. I haven't done any tests to confirm this, though.
  22. I wonder if it would be possible to lithobrake on Moho to match it's velocity when coming from Kerbin? I did it once with The Mun... (see: a crap ton of Vernor engines, as they are weightless but still have a ton of crash resistance. 400 m/s velocity relative to the surface or so survived, I think. You'd need a REALLY big tower of structural pieces or something, because physics wouldn't be able to keep up (half your rocket would clip through Moho upon "collision"). You'd also want to mess with the Physics Delta-Time, to update physics faster to limit this effect... ...Lithobraking on Moho from Kerbin Orbital Velocity... Crazy idea, or sane proposition? Anyways, have fun with that rescue mission.
  23. <technicalstuff>I don't know how the code they use works; but i'm gonna guess that it generates it via random seed. The letters turn into a pseudo-random number based on the name, and the class code randomly picks a class using that seed.</technicalstuff> That's how random-seed systems work in most games, anyhow.
  24. Wow. I'm just looking at that giant stack of structural wings. I can tell you're not using FAR.
  25. Alternis Kerbol: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/63536-0-23-Alternis-Kerbol-Release-thread-v0-1-Jan-3-New-version-cloud-update I honestly have no idea if it still works; as it was last updated in 0.23. EDIT: A recent post to the thread seems to suggest it might work in 0.90; don't take my word for it though.
