  1. While it would be a pain if backwards compatibility wasn't possible, it certainly wouldn't be the end of the world. I don't build many important crafts anyways, so I don't really care about what happens. It's a game in Beta, can't have everything working all the time for everyone, can we? It's an unrealistic goal; anything will inevitably break something else. Really, the mk2 update broke a lot of spaceplanes (I think), but I didn't see anyone get completely bent out of shape about it. Sure, crafts would be broken, but then again, it's better to do these changes now, instead of closer to the full release. Less people playing the game probably now; and people can't really expect a completely working product, it's in Beta! Under development, all in all.
  2. I'll add something here; a lot of people might be tempted to down-vote, or add negative opinions to a good idea as a knee-jerk reaction (Myself included, to be honest), but generally, in this system, you have to write a post to do that. Now, then you actually THINK of a reason WHY it's a bad idea. Then, more knee-jerk reactions are avoided, and people actually THINK THINGS THROUGH. Simply put... -Source: xkcd (Note: This would probably be a good idea. However, if someone makes this, make a way to defeat it is to attempt posting a comment that's just "Swordfish", so I can get rid of it. Youtube developers, I'm looking at you. All programmers have at least some sense of humour, right?) edit: Also, regarding the "green/red" distinction point, one could argue that the same thing can already be done by postcount/rep ratio, but to figure that out, you'd need to think about it, and the more time you need to think about it, the more time your opinion has to cultivate in your brain. To grow. Simply put, think about it for a while, and you'll instantly be smarter in pretty much every case.
  3. Oh gawd that's creepy. We should all be happy that it's not. Starwhip? (everyone seems to be doing that.)
  4. Granted. It only embiggerifies things that try to kill you. Tragically, a mosquito tries to suck your blood, starts to land on you, and, well, you can imagine the rest. I wish for an ensmallerfier.
  5. Hm, might TweakScale be an option? I'm no expert on spaceplanes, though.
  6. Reply Reply With Quote Blog this Post end ctrl-v: Yeah, I don't know either.
  7. Welcome to the forums, sounds like you're really having fun with the game! I was going to point you towards mods, but it looks like you've already found them.
  8. I hope someone can pick this up, because I was looking forward to trying it some day. (the author hasn't been on the forums for a while, so I don't know if they're coming back) I hope the license would permit this? HOPEFULLY fixing it wouldn't be too hard. I haven't made any KSP plugins (only tiny part mods, and those I kept to myself cause they were stupid), so I wouldn't know.
  9. "Hm, what I should call this probe.." "Fortitude? Nah... Swift? Nah... Discovery? Okay, that sounds good." I just think of things that sound interesting and pick the best one from there.
  10. Welcome to the forums! (and I use parentheses a lot too!) I think you need 5 posts to get out of the Curious George user group, after which you can have a signature, profile picture, and a custom title (I think it's 5 posts) Then, your posts don't need to be moderated. After that, it should be in the Settings menu on the top right. EDIT: And spending a long time designing crafts is perfectly normal, some like to meticulously check every structural pylon, and others like to just strap a rocket engine onto a command pod and call it done. Just down to personal preference, I suppose.
  11. Couldn't find it using advanced search, so i'm guessing it was deleted, all I could find was this post. (probably due to arguments getting out of hand on it, or the original post might not of been high enough quality, or a thread might of already been started about it, are all possibilities I can think of off the top of my head) Then again, i'm not staff, so I don't know how things work around here for sure.
  12. Granted. It gets downvoted to oblivion. I wish my CPU didn't overheat whenever I use it without limiting it's usage. (have to keep it at 70% usage all the time)
  13. Get a cup of water; It's not like my game is TOO heavily modded, but it's enough time to stretch and get a cup of water, maybe a snack, etc.
  14. Uh, I think it would be possible, but I think your kerbals would all die if they were all on missions (no life support tanks pre-installed) I don't know for sure, though.
  15. Got a rover into orbit and tried to figure out how the heck to get it to Moho. Tutorials, I found one, but couldn't find the bookmark. Searched for a while... ...Then realized I was on Formula instead of Model mode in KAC, realized transfer was 17 days off. oops
  16. Is that- It can't be- Surely it isn't- Kerbal Space Program, now officially shown to the entire space-geek community by NASA. Sure, it was for 5 seconds, and they didn't mention it by name, but still! With this and the whole Elon Musk thing, SQUAD must be practically dancing in joy right now. need video of the company's employees dancing in a field singing to confirm
  17. Welcome to the forums! I haven't played career mode much (I mainly test out ideas in sandbox) but I think I can answer your questions. Surface samples and EVA capabilities require a building upgrade (which can be done by right clicking a building, there should be an upgrade button). Offhand I think that because they involve kerbals on EVA, they might require astronaut facility upgrades. Building upgrades cost a lot of money, though, so you may have to do a lot of contracts (especially in hard mode) before you have enough. You'll also find that other things (there are limits on how heavy you can build a rocket on the launch pad, certain tracking capabilities, like maneuver nodes, which are very helpful) also require building upgrades. The in-game tutorials don't cover too much, so as further reading I recommend the official wiki, very helpful if you're wondering about specifics of say, a specific planet, or part. (They also have tutorials, which are very helpful for early goals, such as getting to orbit, landing on the Mun (moon), etc.) http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Main_Page or if you prefer videos, Scott Manley has excellent informational/good videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/szyzyg including tutorials for more advanced topics, like docking, landing on other planets, etc. And if you can't find any tutorials to help you in a specific case, or just need help, the gameplay questions forum is always happy to help. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forums/15-Gameplay-Questions-and-Tutorials I hope you have fun playing Kerbal Space Program! (And remember that the game is very much still in progress, so there will be bugs and balance issues, but hopefully they should be far and few between.)
  18. It's alright; I actually found some good requests in the forums to keep me busy, probably don't want to have to juggle both at the same time. (yes i'm absolutely sure) EDIT Just realized they were both closed; thanks!
  19. When my thrusters on my skycrane just froze, and the ship wouldn't move (it had wayyyyyy more than enough TWR.) It eventually worked... But then the EXACT SAME thing happened to one of my boosters on the lifter to Moho. In the end, I removed Kerbal Joint Reinforcement, and it worked like a charm. Hm.
  20. How about: "Jebediah Kerman: Official BadS Kerbonaut, who is by default the first in every save." "Jeb: Shorthand for Jebediah Kerman." "Jebidiah Kerman: Not a thing" "Jebdiah Kerman: Not a thing" "Jabediah Kerman: Not a thing" "Jabedieahdaahjeb Karman: Really not a thing"
  21. Close/Delete my thread? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/107052-I-need-YOUR-ideas-for-simple-stockalike-parts!?p=1665054#post1665054 Turns out A: it was kind of a bad idea B: i didn't really want to do it C: just got reminded I can just search for requests. D: was already kind of busy because of my mission report.
  22. Fair point, i'll probably just have this thread closed. (people can still PM me if they want requests though)
  23. Uh.. Because.. ...Why didn't I think of that? Still, I found that after searching, most of them are either plugin requests, or for parts that are too high level for me (e.g landing gear/cargo bays, which would require animations, which I haven't quite gotten working right yet) I figure this thread might be a good idea; for all the simple things people want (but not exactly need)
  24. Simply put, I need ideas. No guarentees i'll make them, but I want ideas for simple, stockalike (simple really means no animations, etc.) parts. Basically, structural parts, engines, and fuel tanks are all fair game. (Just don't expect textures to be of the highest quality, so it's probably best to ask for small parts.) A fuel tank? Sure! An engine? Okay! a-really-cool-do-hickey-that-lets-you-expand-your-station-13-ways-in-the-4th-dimension? Uh.. Awesome! I want to try to get better at 3D modelling things, and I figure this would be the perfect chance. (I'm not very good, so obviously i'll need time.) And of course, if I don't make something, someone else can gladly do it for them if I don't. I want to make stockalike parts (I think the simple art-style would be good, and at least it'd force me to not just draw some lines in GIMP saying "Fuel Tank" and call it done.) I also have experience packaging parts in unity, making them usable in KSP, etc. so i'll try to give them to people, i'll just need to set up a Google Drive or something first. So far, I think the hardest thing I've tried to make so far is an ion bi-directional RCS port (which was rendered impossible in the stock-game due to stock bugs, but whatever) Those obviously weren't the final textures, but you get the general idea. (I also applied a smooth shader later on.) So, what's that one part you've been wanting but hasn't been important enough to start it's own thread? (p.s, if you have a general idea for a part, please specify a size (or at least compare it to other parts). that way I actually know what i'm doing, and know how much detail I need to apply. Obviously, a Kerbodyne tank will need more detailed texturing than a tiny battery.) IDEAS!
  25. So sorry for the inconvenience. *drains soup from soup bowl* Waiter, there's a live chicken in my soup!
