Often, Indians wear exquisite robes; upsetting righteously-traditional time-travellers. nckdbw

Not for the G27 But I've beaten this horse enough... I'll go away now.

I took a look at the cfg that generates the text, and it didn't look all that simple at least. Then again, I've only done a little programming, so maybe it's simpler than it looks. I'll try to locate it again, but it was somewhere in the KSP folder (duh) with a name along the lines of "storyline" or something like that (and the first few lines were a Spoiler warning... so I figured it HAD to be something good!). I opened it hoping to find something interesting, but after a while realized what I was looking at. --- Edit: Okay, now that I'm home (I have a long commute - can you tell?) I can say that the file in question is located at \GameData\Squad\Resources\StoryDefs.cfg, and the first two lines are: // definitions for the storyline generator used in contracts and such. // WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS How could you NOT look at it after that? But yeah, it then goes on to explain how it works and such, and I guess it really doesn't look too complicated. But it looks easy to edit, I think.

I'm surprised when I find one that makes sense. Their algorithm for it, while complicated, isn't the more coherent thing I've seen.

how are air intakes different?
Slam_Jones replied to kurja's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think the main variables at play are: Intake Amount (how much air it can take in) Drag produced (some produce more drag than others) Mass (how much it weighs) Cost ($$$) The wiki has a comparison chart, but I can't say 100% if it's updated for 1.x (I noticed the pictures for the circular and RAM intakes are using the old 0.90 models) Edit: Ninja'd -
I just can't get to like how the engines are knobbled now
Slam_Jones replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I actually built a vertical-launching SSTO that uses a Rhino and 2 Mainsails. I launch using all of them, then turn off the Mainsails once I'm high enough, running on the more efficient Rhino in the upper atmo. It's not the best SSTo ever, but it does go to show that different engines have different uses. -
Herbal Space Program? Now that's something I can get behind! Nothing wrong with goin' green

What Are Things You've Heard That Made You Facepalm?

Google Image Search for "USB to HDMI" Where do you work again? -
If I'm in career mode and only have unlocked the "Wheesley," I usually cycle through the contracts that require "above X altitude" by declining the contract so a new one pops up. Usually have to cycle about a dozen or so, but I can usually get 3 or 4 contracts within 20km of KSC that I can do all in a row, with one flight, with a Wheesley-based plane.

Regarding moving both ends of a strut, has this been made a mod? I was hoping there would be a way (eventually) to be able to offset both the root and the end point of a strut, to better help 'hide' them inside wings and such.
-
I was hoping option #2 would end with the phrase "... and promptly disappeared in a puff of logic." In case you don't get the reference.

How much is too much to dock?
Slam_Jones replied to mackadelik's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
As I understand it, you want your SAS right on your CoM, while you want RCS to be equally distant from the CoM. Basically one ring (4-symmetry) at the top, and one at the bottom. You want the CoM to be directly between them for the best control. -
That's kinda what I was imagining. Basically a space-geode (looks like boring rock on the outside, while the inside is filled with colorful crystal-like stuff) that whacked into it and split open, spilling some of it out. Then again, what do I know
-
Awesome, thank you for the explanations! I understand much better now. +rep for both of you

Wasn't interested in Cub Scouts. I heard about Weeblo's and was a little more interested in that (camping looked fun) but I didn't join until Boy Scouts.

I know you literally just said you can't afford a racing wheel yet, but you should seriously consider saving up for a while (took me a few moths to save up - totally worth it) and buy something like the Logitech G27. I got mine from NewEgg for about $250-$300. Expensive, yes, but SO worth it. If you want a fun driving experience, I HIGHLY recommend it. Very high quality, will last a long time. I've been able to get it working for any game I wanted to get it working for: driving around in GTA 5 and KSP is fantastic (I haven't tried to get it working for Battlefield 4 yet... but I have a feeling it's possible). The additional buttons on the shifter and the wheel mean I can download something like x360ce and have every XBox button mapped to a button on the wheel or shifter. Makes it very convenient for functions like SAS (both in GTA and KSP ) and such. Plus, since it'a pretty well-known system, many games will have native support for it (or tools to help you get it working just how you want it). Again, I realize it may be out of your price range, but if you save up a while (like I did), you won't regret it!

How much is too much to dock?

What I usually end up doing (which has saved me a lot of headaches!) is to equip every module going up with a probe core, a solar panel or two (enough so it can keep electricity up), and some RCS for positioning. This way, each module is basically it's own self-contained ship. It makes the whole process a lot easier IMO, as add, removing, or even re-arranging modules can be done without an addition 'tug' ship. I personally haven't used MechJeb; I can't help you out with that part of it. I know that the Docking Port Alignment Indicator mod can also help get everything pointed the right way, though personally I learned to do it by hand and have stuck with it. If it's not your style, don't worry - to each their own. Hope this helps! -
Hello! I have a question. In the past, I've had issues with CKAN installing Firespitter correctly. I believe it had something to do with a certain file package not being extracted properly. As far as I'm aware, this is a CKAN issue and not a Firespitter issue, as it has occurred on every attempt, regardless of whether other mods are installed or not. Short of trying it again myself (which I will again later today), does anyone have any info on whether this issue has been fixed? If not, I'll try installing it manually.

Gaining energy? So is the small object siphoning off some of the energy from the larger object? I'm a little confused.
-
I may be wrong, but you basically want half your burn to occur before the node, and half after it. Right when you hit the node, you should be halfway through the maneuver.
-
A poorly-executed lithobraking experiment, IMO
-
Also, I believe checking the "Drag uses acceleration instead of force" (the wording may vary slightly) box will also make it feel more like 0.90 aero.

How Much Time Have You Spent Playing KSP?
Slam_Jones replied to SelectHalfling0's topic in KSP1 Discussion
According to Steam, I'm somewhere in the 800-hour range. Right now, however, a lot of hours are going to GTA 5... -
