Getting the Wheesley to higher altitude
Slam_Jones replied to cephalo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Is that two Thuds and a TurboJet? I was fantastic at making SSTO spaceplanes in 0.90, but have been struggling in 1.0, so I might kinda steal that engine set-up... -
Well that would just be plain ol' physics warp issues. One solution is to install Kerbal Joint Reinfrocement, which basically puts invisible cement between the parts (they won't snap off as easily)
-
Seen this all the time, and I assume it's intentional at this point. Puff of smoke, slight shake, plane often changes direction very slightly. As far as I know, it's intentional.

I was more stoked when I realized I could drive my rovers with my steering wheel Now they just need to plug the electric wheel torque into an axis so we can use a pedal for that, too.

KEMA Drag Week - ROUND CLOSES 28TH MAY
Slam_Jones replied to Bilfr3d's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Give it a rest, man, honestly. We don't take kindly to those that just wish to incite. Either do the challenges, or don't. Just please don't just sit here crying about every little thing. Edit: Also, I'd LOVE to see what kind of challenge you can come up with Why don't you post one and let us take a look at it? -
Right on, good to know. I'm going through some theory right now myself, working on it from a slightly different angle. My modding experience is limited to some C#/Unity knowledge (which I'm brushing up on) and some cfg file editing; but really not much beyond that. The ideas I'm going through are a little more complicated than just producing EnginePower, but they're not quite ready for show-and-tell yet.
-
Yes, and I "made" a new one by copying and tweaking the cfg so it uses only LF and Intake Air (so it's more suitable for non-vacuum vehicles), but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Working with it that way basically makes my rover a hybrid of sorts... instead, I want a fire-spitting (yes I posted on Firespitter mod page too), fuel-thirsty beast that uses the raw power of the LF to turn the wheels, rather than producing electricity, then using that to turn the wheels. I'm thinking I may have to brush back up on my C# skills and make my own mod.

Yeah I'm thinking that's the route I'll take. I'll have to wait another week or two, but it seems it'll be worth it. Thanks all!

Currently rocking the Radeon R9 270, upgraded from an HD6850 a few months ago. Edit: I know in the past (with single-core CPUs) the big factor was the brute GHz, but now with the multi-cores, it seems a little more complicated. Is there any metric I can go off of to tell the relative power of a CPU? Is it still just the solid GHz number? Did some research and figured the CPU speed thing out.
-
I suppose I could: I've also looked at the FX-8350 Vishera 8-core (4.0GHz/4.2 Turbo), and it's got a lot of good reviews, etc, it's just about 50%-60% more in terms of price. Is the difference between the FX-8350 and the FX-6300 enough to make it worthwhile? It would mean I could put CPU upgrade all the way at the bottom of the list for the next round (in a few years), though.

Hi, I'm going to be upgrading my CPU soon, and would to know if anyone has any insight into what I'm looking at. My system is mainly AMD (due to budget restraints) and I plan to stick with it. Current CPU: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 4-core (3.6 GHz/3.8 GHz Turbo) Potential CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-core (3.5 GHz/4.1 GHz Turbo) Alternate (Expensive) CPU: AMD FX-8350 Vishera 8-core (4.0GHz/4.2 Turbo) Overall, it looks like the Vishera will help most of my games, but I'm worried that KSP might actually take a performance hit, due to being only single-thread capable. I'm currently satisfied with the performance of KSP, and this upgrade is intended mainly to help me run GTA V. Any thoughts?

Old versions of KSP (some versions still wanted!)
Slam_Jones replied to xorg's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Anyone have 0.90 sitting around somewhere? Please? -
With most monitors, if you make the room you are in darker (assuming that's an option for you), it makes it easier to see in the dark. If the room you are in is really bright, well, that'll affect how well you can see.

Is there a way to go back to a older version? I got this on Steam.

Good question. Personally I want to download a copy of 0.90 (I prefer the soup-o-sphere, honestly) and would be curious to know where I could get it from. -
Why i cannot reach 18 000 in plane?
Slam_Jones replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I just X out the contracts that say "above xxx altitude," and wait til ones that only require surface or "below xxx altitude" contracts. Can be a bit tedious, but if you line up 2 or 3 survey contracts close to KSC and do em all in one run, you can make decent funds. -

Is it still possible to get to orbit as an SSTO without RAPIERS? In 0.90, I was able to offset a Turboramjet and a 48-7S into each other and used that to get to stable orbit (2.2km/s @ 28km on jet, switch to 48-7S for the rest). Clearly the 48-7S has been nerfed, but is such an idea still possible? Maybe with a LV-909 instead of the 48-7S? I really like non-Rapier spaceplanes. Almost to the point I consider Rapiers too easy.

That's a pretty ignorant thing to say. You cannot possibly begin to know what Squad is working with in terms of budget (or other constraints).
