They just tuned it to be a little more realistic. You learned how to ride a bike with no gears, now they give you a full bike and it's time to learn anew.

How does data transmission work?
Venusgate replied to Masiong's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
As far as I understand, you need enought battery storage to completely do a full transmission. no longer can you each out a transmission, byte at a time, while your solar panels pump out electricity -
So I was snooping through the Squad Contracts.cfg and it occurred to me that there is a contract weight and rarity (how often rescue contracts, for example, appear) and that different "weights" of types of contracts might be fun to play around with. You want to build up for kerbonaut corp? Turn down the weights on all the other contracts and turn it up on rescue and recover? Is your career playstyle mostly that of exploration? Turn down part testing/rescues/basebuilding etc etc And just make a handful of differently weighted .cfg that people could pick up and swap in and out at their leisure. The other thought occurred to me that the base building and station construction contract types are kind of limited, especially in the expansion sense. Right now there are only contracts to add cupola, Science lab, and ISRU parts, but why not more crew space? Why not add a dockable rover? Resource silos? Reaction wheels? Docking bay extension (a part with minimum 2 docking ports, like a structural fuselage with two docking ports on each end)? Solar panels/Fuel cells? Resource scanner? Antenna bay (one of each)? I might end up doing it myself given how low-skill it would be, but I am leaving it open as an idea to steal :) Thoughts?

Why solar panels???? I keep forgetting them.
Venusgate replied to kerbarara's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Reason #5 I let myself use revert flight :P The alternative is to use the ingame vessel issue checker (as unexpansive as it is) or make your own pre-flight checklist! _ Solar panels _ Parachutes _ Staging doublecheck _ SAS _ Darkness time battery power _ Enough TWR for each powered landing etc -

Tipping, but not in a jar the way you'd want it
Venusgate replied to kfsone's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Use the fins, Luke. Trust your (air)foilings. EDIT- Sticking a couple of control surfaces down toward your main rocket engine will give you more control in the lower part of the atmosphere. Like 10 times more than an SAS unit at the top. My theory on your successful one: compared to the probe core, while your cupola is inefficiently placed for control purposes, the sheer power of the SAS unit in it probably made up for it. -
Popular Mechanics did a short article on one of my builds/missions!

Nice! I know I was impressed when I saw this the first time. Quite seamless, and no hyper edit to boot! -
I got the 'Aviation' Tech Node, which includes both the Wheesly and the Juno, but I don't have the Wheesly in the SPH. Why is that? http://imgur.com/a/O1RIY How do I post an album?
I can't help with your question, but you post an album like: [.IMGUR]O1RIY[./IMGUR] (minus the periods. notice the last digits on your imgur link)

Maybe its the side effect of the bouyancy upgrade. angle of impact is now computed more accurately. Makes me wonder if you can ditch a plane on land at a angle of <1 degree :P

I quicksaved instead of quickloading right before an imminent crash.... AGAIN. That's it, I'm changing my keybinding for quicksaving

It may be my playstyle, but a trip to minmus and back takes dangerously close to 15 days. But a snacks for one for 15 days is way too little to use the 1.25 tank, or even an asymmetrical radial tank. Any chance of a wee tank, or procedural parts cfg?

Keostationary Orbit Question
Is SSTO spaceplane now the king of low cost to orbit?
It's totally a playstyle thing. SSTO rockets are likely to have a lower payload to cost rate, even with airbreathing engines, but they are also significantly easier to design, and fly, and take much less time and skill to re-enter. Re-entry is now (thanks, Starhawk) significantly more challenging than in previous versions, so designing for it can be a struggle if you're not just going to slap a handfull of heatshields on your vessel.
I don't know whether I'm using the new jumbo-sized engines correctly; please advise. Aerospike and rcs for orbital maneuvering needs. It can deorbit 4 Kerbals alive in any case, selfstabilizing aerodynamics, even absolute noobs can land everywhere successfully. Calculating Delta V Needed
Venusgate replied to sneezedr424's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Using less rocketpower will stretch out your dV for how much fuel you send up, but too little twr you might have to get tricksy with things like resonating de-orbit burns and aerobraking. -
Why if we already can do the same thing for free?
Because Squad would essentially be providing the service of saving the uploaders from making showcases and dropbox space, as well as the knowledge associated to perform that, and providing the d/lering the minor hassle and knowledge associated with getting the .craft file into their game.
-
It would be an undertaking, but it might be interesting to see squad buying the rights to, and redistributing .craft files. Like paying $30 to a player who has a popular looking .craft, and then putting it up for d/l at $1 a pop. Encourages creative builders to streamline their best crafts and spreads the "coolness" to less practiced or time-constrained players.
-
Consider not sending up a second set of science parts for the rescue. you can still perform the science and collect all the data, then hop in your rescue command pod and be on your way, leaving the empty used science parts behind. should save you some weight, i.e. dV
Tried making the Serenity in KSP, now that we have the cargo ramp and bigger engines. Unfortunately due to the fact that the ramp is clipped into the top layer of the plane, it starts to oscillate, which results in decapitation of the Serenity (which is more serious than losing the primary buffer panel). I will try to find a solution. -- quick edit-- If you know the solution, please let me know!
The b9 aerospace pack comes with "invisible" struts.
