But.... OVER 22k!
-
I always thought in comparison with the command pods/cockpits, the hitchhiker was always a little heavy with no other use mechanical than kerbal storage. It's not terribly out of balance though. maybe 10% weaker all things considered.

Can't do orbital survey

What are you clicking? Did you try reloading the space center and then accessing your craft via the tracking station? -

List of Milestones/World Firsts?
Venusgate replied to Venusgate's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I know as much. I am hopeing eventually to see if there's more to trend though. "First ore extracted, first 10+ kerbal station, etc" and take the reward values from that to see that if it's a reasonable expectation to try to play career mode stock without doing contracts that one might find boring, or repetitive - but still be able to accomplish a play-style that suits the player. -

WIP - Environmental Visual Enhancements Development

Uhhh.... -
So I realize that Squad is proud of their "hidden fun stuff" and I also appreciate that there's a new strategy that lets you play career mode without being at the mercy of a random contract generator. However, I'm a little uneasy at the idea of making major investments to play how i want to play, without knowing for sure if my objectives will actually yield a reward. I can imagine that landing on a planet for the first time will likely pay for itself (mroe so with the strategy) but will building a base? will mining my first 10k units of ore grant a milestone? Anyone have a lsit, comprehensive or otherwise? And if not, shall we start one here?

Changing scenes did not change it. Could zoom out really far really fast from launchpad. Closing and restarting game got rid of it. Started mid flight (I believe when transitioning between map view and flight view.) Anyone else have this happen?

What is "deploying" tail fins?
Venusgate replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Basically it full tilts them without affecting the flight controls or SAS of the rest of the craft. It's a way to burn off speed right before landing while generating significant amount of lift. play with it! flaps are not essential, but they do help landing a bit, and they're a good way to play around with how real aircraft land, instead of just slamming on the breaks and praying -
Read some tips and trying to stay within the 30 part starter limit, i made a re-entry shuttle! It works! That's a science bay in the middle surviving re-entry without a sheild~

1.0.5 Reentry drag and heat
Venusgate replied to aluc24's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Something that looks neat and helps hold retro on top-heavy re-entry vehicles I do is flip three basic fins upsidedown and put them on the command pod around the door, and then tuck them in so that if you drew a line parrallel to the axis, but tangential to the edge (or along the science bay if you use that) the fins don't poke out. They arent enough surface to terribly affect your ascent control, and being tucked behind the body of your craft, they really only take heat damage when your craft is trying to flip - which is when they are generating the most retrograde control. - - - Updated - - - Surprisingly, they minor loss in freefall drag (even as low as 1g) is very significant compared to the minor heating that an engine generates. At least as far as i've tested. -
"Unknown object": what to do about them?
Venusgate replied to JackBush's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The game spawns "asteroids" in various orbits around kerbin and dres. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Asteroid -
"Have a part on the vessel."
Venusgate replied to KeeblerKerbin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Might be a bug. I havent seen the base building contracts since 1.0.5 release, but i know in 1.0.4, the contract parameter syntax was a little screwy, and that usually in this case, that would mean something in the sub paragraph of that line counts as that part. Ex: "Have part on vessel _____Part: solar panel" -

Mods for electric propellor
Venusgate replied to BowWhalley's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Solar gliders aren't a mainstream thing for a reason VERY high aspect ratios with low thrust but high lift characteristics. Or strap a nuclear reactor to it? -

I'd place more worth on whether it lands well. XD

I just figured this one out only recently, but its something ive always wondered. When your maneuvering node "collapses" into an orange circle with two gray c7rcles below it (might only happen when you have a target selected) these two circles are forward one orbit (right circle) and back one orbit (left). This is useful in the sense that if yiu are trying to conserve dv, there might be a cheaper transfer in a few orbit, but instead of guessing, you can make a node, and click forward a few orbits until you see the seperation arrows close together (or closer than on your current orbit). Then adjust the node to zero out the seperation, and it will automatically say your node is in x time (x=time to node in current orbit+time of number of orbits for optimal transfer). No more wasteful burns when waiting a few hours would cut it in half!

Restarted carreer. Cleared out mods. trying new EVE with low-count parts mods. Very stable! I love these new mk0 engines and the new mk1 cockpit is gorgeous!
