Base-In-A-Box. Expandable modular surface base!

A very high angle of attack and shallow reentry angle, you can bring almost anything back that way. -
9/4/15 Spacecraft Fridays -- The Ghost Edition!
selfish_meme replied to ghostbuzzer7's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The original point of Spacecraft Fridays was to highlight the SF maintainers opinion of craft they liked that were created that week OR were referenced that week. It is entirely subjective, and therefore there is no bad, or no correct. It has nothing to do with experience or the best craft, I know we all like a bit of competition and we see an opportunity to 'win' at SF Fridays, but that was not the original intent of SF. In that light GhostBuzzers list was entirely consistent. Hopefully, people read the blurb more thoroughly in the future and we can avoid any unnecessary nastiness. -

Project X VTOL SSTO Spaceplane
selfish_meme replied to selfish_meme's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Uploaded the full video to Youtube, warning long video showing Vertical takeoff to orbit and return, by return I mean crash, but it's close enough to prove the concept. I am working on an updated version for Executive Transfer to Orbit (2 crew) with safety devices (parachutes). -

Can't get SSTO to orbit.

I built a VTOL SSTO for Kerbin with a nuke, no one cared -
x64 yes for Linux, hacked version for Windows, no for Mac. The same as previously. We are on the verge I think of hearing about 1.1 going to Q&A.

WWII Bomber - Vickers Wellington MK X

Another update, fewer parts, new engines, higher top speed, have edited download link and stats. Tried to get freewheeling props but none of the solutions worked well enough. -

HOLD ONTO THAT THOUGHT, sorry left capslock on, I have a turret for your ship. It's too deep for a tank but perfect for a ship. It allows very smooth Horizontal and vertical translation, no tipping turrets. It works well now I just a have a few minor adjustments. I'll get back to you when I can play later. -
Your most awesome SpacePlane

In the Stock Payload Fraction Challenge, which is a good thread for ascent profiles, it was found that with Rapiers getting them up to speed as early as possible was key. Also for best dV it is a matter of reducing cosine loss from high Angles of Attack. So typically an ascent would start with running off the end of the runway, pitch up to between 5 and 10 degrees, lower for lower TWR, reach 400ms and then keep ascending to 10000m by which time you should be doing 1000ms already and then it's just a matter of tweaking your ascent velocity to keep it from blowing up and stay on air as long as possible to achieve the highest speed. Any big pitch changes cost you dV. Also wing inclination to body helps, a LOT. I only found out how much recently, makes me want to go back and redesign everything. -
So I tried out the Chinese Light Tank and it was very good (I was on my test rig which is anaemic so I didn't want a big one). I found that it drove well and looked good, the detail was good too. The turret worked smoothly, well if you can call tipping over for vertical angle working, which is not your fault. The limitations of stock mean every system I can think of to do it better end up bigger than the tank. My only real criticism is the turret seems too far forward.

Does anyone even vet those guys over in R&D?

I think you should see this for what it is, people have been helping each other build craft all over the thread. Many of us contributed to Columbia's B-17, I got lots of feedback on my Wellington. This thing looks amazing, and people want it to work for them and for everybody. It's constructive criticism, and best of all, people are actually downloading it, and trying it out, to give this criticism. We all have crafts that get released and not a single comment, so you have been very lucky. I think we have all probably noticed a post release slowing down in the forums, people are waiting for 1.1 to play again and yet this garnered a lot of attention by people who know and build good craft. -

You are technically correct, which is the best kind, lucky I am thinking of a revision with some pods, I can put them in the correct positions
