Yeah, the Ares V SRBs are copies of the one on Ares I, except they're a little longer and have nosecones. Right now any pitch maneuvers have to be done slowly and fairly late in the ascent, or the rocket will flip over and lose control. Fortunately, it can usually afford to wait because it's so grossly overpowered, but I would rather have it barely be able to push 70tons to orbit than be a superlifter that eats 100t payloads for breakfast.

All the Lunar stuff is done, both of my landers are in EDL and Surface Activity Testing. Ares V needs something to improve control during launch, and Ares I and Orion are awaiting overhauls of almost every system on board. SPR works well (as proven on the Mun and Kerbin), but the DIPS and radiators still have trouble exiting their storage bay on the Cargo Lander. Does anyone know if the Face changed locations on Duna in 1.1.3. I've heard they polished up the Easter Eggs, and I've seen that the KSC monolith has almost tripled in size and the Magic Boulder is *sort of* back, but I have no idea what else was done.

He's right, you know. I started a new Scotland campaign today, so far I've secured all of Britain except the land south of Nottingham. I was planning on building a big army to take on the English in London, surrounding Nottingham and leaving the only other English threats across the Channel in Caen, but they struck me first. They keep sending huge armies made of the cheapest units possible to try and take Caernarvon, in Wales. Tonight alone I've fought three besieging armies, and three times the English army left with less than 10% of their original force remaining. The funny thing is that I'm actually turning a profit off the English attacks. Because the units are so cheap they usually rout with over a third of the unit still alive. Once they all chain-rout I can send my knights out to chase them down and kill/capture them. I usually round up 600 or 700 prisoners per siege, which I then ransom (they're mostly peasants, spear militia, and occasionally hobilars and mailed Knights). I've made over a thousand monies (the currency in this game was florins, right?) in a single ransom. I still don't have a big enough army to fight anything but a defensive war, but if they keep doing this I should eventually be able to drain their wallets, since all their ports are blockaded, my good buddy France blocks all the land trade routes leading to Normandy, and the Pope has excommunicated the English king, assuring that they will have no support in this war that they so foolishly started. Scotland will be free, lads. Haggis for everyone!

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

I've resumed testing the H-5, and have made a few changes. I've given it a smaller tail, redesigned the cockpit and reduced the number of seats to two, like the early model H-5s. One more thing, I've noticed that the chopper leans slightly forward when landed. I tried adjusting the spring and damper strength of the front wheels to solve this but it only made the helicopter bounce around and slide down the runway, even with brakes on. I also noticed that the wheels are clipped into the ground. I've seen this before but it hasn't caused any problems. Does anyone know if it's what's causing the weird leaning? -

I'm uh... glad... to see you did... better than... me... At least the tower itself is still standing, it was just the platform that failed. -

The main and tail rotors are both from KAX. -
Once you've got the basics down and can consistently beat the AI and manage the campaign well, I recommend getting one of Medieval's fantastic mods. I recommend Third Age: Total War, which puts the game in Middle Earth around the time of the War of the Ring. The unit models have been changed to look like Gondorian soldiers, Riders of Rohan, Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, etc. Stainless Steel enhances the game with a bigger map (at the cost of removing the Americas), smoother diplomacy, and a few different factions and regions. If you're a Warhammer guy and don't want to spend $60 on TW:W, you can download Call of Warhammer for Medieval II. EDIT: I think most mods, especially the total conversion ones like TATW and the Warhammer one require the Kingdoms DLC, fortunately, it's dirt cheap on sales and is worth every penny. Basically it adds a few extra campaigns you can play in the game (Crusades, Teutonic Order, 1200s Britainnia, conquest of America).

I looked into getting my own french horn once so I wouldn't have to use the ones with crumpled bells, rust, sticky, dry valves, chipped mouthpieces, etc, but it turned out to cost something like $2000 (IIRC). That was probably one of the contributing factors to my leaving the band, along with having no time to focus on other subjects, an inability to pursue other hobbies, and some other things. I have a trumpet and a coronet (is that how you spell it?) that belonged to my father, but they have cracked slides. If they weren't broken I could probably play them, since the fingerings for most valved brass instruments are the same, it's just the pitch that is different.

Yes, do it as soon as you can, they're pretty addictive. 1) Launch Medieval II 2) Listen to the menu music for ten minutes because it's so good 3) Play tutorial (recommended to rebind camera controls to WASD, as they are set to the number pad by default. 4) Start new campaign as England, they're the best faction fro learning the game, and it's ridiculously easy to win nearly any battle so long as you have a healthy supply of Longbowmen. 5) Take over north England and Scotland, inspiring a future movie about your actions in Scotland, known as Scaredheart, with alt-history Mel Gibson. 6) Build huge army in Normandy, genocide French. Give money to the Pope and go on Crusades to make him happy (doesn't matter if you win, just make an army of peasants and your worst general). Focus on getting high population to improve economy and build bigger castles/cities, gaining access to better units. 7) Get screwed over by Mongol invasions, Timurid invasions, and Black Death. Once gunpowder is invented push to get troops that use it ASAP 8) Wait for 1400, sail to America with lots of armored troops and cavalry, with loads of merchants to start the tobacco trade. Genocide Aztecs. 9) ??? 10) Profit off gold, tobacco, and chocolate in America, as well as the sugar and stuff in Egypt (capture that and reinforce it sometime before the Mongols comes). 10/10 Medieval II best game ever. EDIT: If anyone wants to do a multiplayer battle with me in any TW (except Rome II and Attilla), PM me and we can set up a time and date.

I used to play the French Horn and Mellophone, but it's been nearly a year since I even touched one, so I've probably forgotten most of what I knew, and I was never very good at it anyway. I can't provide proof, as I played the instruments in a school band, and because they are so expensive I had to rent them, and I was obviously required to turn them in when I left.

I think the next one will either be 1820 to 1900, focusing on the colonization of Africa, the unifications of Germany and Italy, and the American Civil War, or a game from 1500 to 1600, with emphasis on the rise of infantry and gunpowder, colonizing the Americas, and the replacement of feudalism by absolute monarchies. I would rather have the former, but he latter would be good too. I'm not gonna lie, I only described those potential games in such detail so I can brag about my extensive knowledge and love of history. EDIT: I forgot to mention why I suspect these games. I believe the team that is working on the next historical TW mentioned that the game won't be announced for a while because they actually have to research the time period. This almost certainly eliminated Medieval III, Shogun III, or Empire II (unless it becomes a Victorian game), as all those games should not require enough reseat to be worth mentioning.
-
I've heard that this wouldn't work because after the American Civil War the Napoleonic line formations started phasing out due to the advent of repeating weapons, the machine gun, and the rise of artillery. The Franco-Prussian War further reduced their effectiveness, and by 1914 line formations were all but gone. I'm not sure how a TW with squad infantry would work, especially since by WWI battlefields were drastically larger than they were in 1805. I sure do want a Victorian era Total War though.

A few days ago I saw a thread about what to buy in the Steam Summer Sale, and I mentioned one of the Total War games. This revived a question I've been asking myself for some time now; does anyone here play Total War games? If so, which one is your favorite and why? For those who don't know, Total War is a real time tactics, turn based strategy game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. On the campaign map it plays just like a simplified strategy game such as Civilization, but when one army attacks another, the play enters a real time battle where every unit in the army is controllable and every single man in every unit is modeled and animated. The series ranges from the conquests of Alexander the Great to the Boshin War and Meji Restoration in Japan while converting nearly every historical period inbetween. The newest game even expanded into the Warhammer universe, and is the first TW game not based on historical time periods. Share stories and cool screenshots here, or ask about the games if you're interested in buying one.

Is it out already? I haven't been paying too much attention to it, but if it is out they missed out on a huge opportunity to release it on Independednce Day. I probably won't see it unless I get bored and somehow have absolutely nothing else to do. No Will Smith (but still Jeff Goldblum) really turns me off. I don't know about spending $20 to watch Jeff Goldblum stutter and say "Uh" for two hours, with aliens and popcorn mixed in.

Alright, I think for the sake of simplicity I will make the earlier variant with the thinner cockpit and two seats. I don't know which wheel configuration I will use though, right now I have tricycle, but I'm considering the older one with a tailwheel. This will let me find information more easily, as the Army Aviation museum near me has at least two H-5 variants, both of which have the smaller cabin. I will try and make stretchers, but they may be larger than normal because there is no reliable way to make Kerbals lay down. I get back from North Carolina sometime tomorrow, so I can resume work soon. After that I get to tackle the F-86 and MiG-15, hooray! Yak-9 and F4U need to be done too, and possibly the F-82. -

It looks like this picture shows three seats in the back, with a widened cabin, but because Kerbams have heads about three times as wide as their bodies (with helmets), to get them to fit properly the cabin would have to be about nine times as wide as it currently is. I may have to work with the original design of a two seat, tandem cockpit. Do you have any information of whether that variant was used in Korea? This helicopter is going with the other Korean War aircraft I've made, so I want it to be authentic. -

Can anyone provide me with information on the interior layout of the Sikorsky H-5? Everything I've read tells me it can seat 3 passengers and a pilot, but I can't find anything showing how the seats were arranged. Is it saying that there can be one passenger in the cockpit and two in stretchers outside, or they 3 people can fit in that tiny cockpit? -
Go ahead and pull that trigger! The series has advanced vastly since the original Shogun. Shogun 2 is a masterpiece, and it covers a large part of history with its expansions, from the rise of feudalism in Japan to the Boshin War and the Meji restoration. Medieval II ranges from the Battle of Hastings in 1066 to the 1500s, with the Crusades, Mongol and Timurid invasions, the Black Death, and the colonization of America all included. Medieval II has held up exceptionally well over the years, with a fairly active multiplayer community, fantastic mods which can either optimize the game or completely change it into what feels like a different game. Huh, maybe I got carried away with this post, I should probably stop. If you want to know more, just PM me.

Huey Bell UH-1 Helicopter

Your Huey has inspired me to start making helicopters to go with my collection of Korean War aircraft, starting with the Sikorsky H-5.
