totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Okay... the good news is that I managed to land the Panther on the carrier... the bad news is that a malestrom of bugs prevented me from taking off again and eventually caused me to shut down the game out of frustration. And here is a rather lengthy bloopers reel because after this first landing the bugs grabbed by by the neck and wouldn't let go for anything. I also tried the Mouse Aim Flight mod to try and make it easier to set up the approach to the carrier, and I have one small complaint in that it seems not to work with the Panther. I have no idea why, the jet isn't hard to fly at all, but it doesn't even try to move the jet at all! -

I started testing the Panther on an aircraft carrier (not my own, it was made by @Redshift OTF). It takes off really well, especially with the ramp at the front. I haven't been able to test landing it on the carrier yet, as flying with a keyboard makes it really hard to set up an approach and makes precise maneuvers near impossible. I'm also still searching for a functioning arresting system (I know using a bunch of landing legs worked really well before the overhaul, and parachutes are a simple if not accurate possibility). -

Sure, I'll give him that, although I think the MiG-15's elevators are mounted on the vertical stabilizer itself, rather than the point where the fuselage and the tail meet, like on the F-86. @castille7 don't worry, I've got a MiG-15 planned too. -

*violently resists urge to post facepalm reaction gif* I should know better than to fall for what is probably a trap, but my clock says it's 11:00 pm, I'm too tired to care, so I'm going to leave this here and not even bother to give the benefit of the doubt. -

I shouldn't even have to offer a chance to guess this one, everyone knows it. I love the way it looks, especially since I got Nebula working, but it still has more problems than the Panther and the Skyraider combined. It's too slow with a Wheesley engine, but with a Panther (the engine, not my plane) I get this weird phantom force that forces the aircraft into a roll to the right as soon as it leaves the runway. Even if I manage to keep it airborne, I can't avoid the space center buildings. This happens with gimbal on and off, decreased thrust limit, SAS, extra wide undercarriage... I've tried just about every trick in the book to fix this, but it happens the exact same every single time. Same amount of force, same direction, seems like there's nothing I can do to stop it. I get a feeling like the plane is flipping me the bird whenever this happens, it's just so frustrating... But hey, I got Nebula working! -
Creedence Clearwater Revival. No, they aren't a Christian rock band, they made all the songs you always hear in Vietnam War movies! Aerosmith is really good too, and you can never go wrong with Pink Floyd or Elton John.

My P-26 Carries a small bomb between its wheels. -
Well... Maybe I exaggerated a little too much, after timing the spin rate it turns out to be around 0.25 RPM. It doesn't sound like much, but it's fast enough to prevent time warp and doesn't give me enough time to drive the rovers away from the lander before it gets knocked over by the spin. This may not be the original bug that you noticed, but I think my bug is a more aggressive descendant of yours.
-
I believe I'm using the LT-2. It's the larger one that swings open and has square footpads instead of round ones. It doesn't move very much until I deploy a rover, then it starts spinning on the surface at something like 2 or 3 RPM, and I can't stop it in any way. Deploying the other rover just makes the spinning worse. The spinning also threatens to knock over the rovers, since the don't clear the side of the lander when sitting on the surface. Oops, I already launched the fire section and it didn't have an Orion. I was planning on sending it up separately with half the crew, since I decided to send six Kerbals.

DTV is progressing. I think I have a universal docking port for attaching the NTR transfer stages to their various payloads as well as connecting the section of the DTV. I think that it should be assembled in three launches, but I'm not entirely sure. The video is somewhat misleading, as the caption for the clip showing the MTV's launch implies that there are three launches, but we don't actually see all three components assembling, only the crew section docking to the other two. Once I finish the DTV I'm probably going to have to hold off on finishing the landers until 1.1.3 comes out, as the soil erosion bug makes it nearly impossible to test the deployment of the rovers and rehearse surface activities. The only thing I can really test is the descent from orbit, and even that may be ruined if the erosion takes effect as soon as the lander touches down. I may revise Orion to keep it up to the standards set by others here, and possibly try building a Habitat Altair, but the Mars portion is going to take awhile.

I have my SPR from my Constellation Pack (link in signature). It's stock and was built to transport three Kerbals, although it can carry up to five if you need it. Although it was built for the Mun or Duna, it works perfectly fine in Kerbin as well. The RCS pod you see on top of the rover doesn't come with it, that was just a makeshift system for getting the rover down from the lander once it arrived at the Mun.

I'm gonna hold off and release it along with the Panther and probably a few other Korean War era planes, like the MiG-15, F2H Banshee, F4U Corsair, etc. -

I gave the Skyraider some weapons and modified a few areas, namely the wings (made them wider) and the propellor (made the blades 50% larger). So I've got eight Hellfire missiles because regular BD Armory doesn't have unguided rockets that don't come in pods and i don't want to bring in any submods, four 500lb bombs, and two cluster bombs, as well as two Vulcans embedded in the wings. Real Skyraiders had four 20mm cannons, but to compensate for the grossly increased rate of fire on the Vulcan, I reduced that to two. i can probably also replace the cluster bombs with drop tanks if i so choose, although piping that fuel to the engine may be a little tricky. All the weapons seem to work pretty well against the space center, except the missiles (because I can't set them to target KSC buildings) and the Vulcans (obvious reasons). Maneuverability is decreased, but it can still fly pretty well. I'm not really sure if the shape looks as close to the Skyraider's as I would like, let me know what you think. -

The fact that it was added to War Thunder recently didn't help things. -

Well, at least it looks like the Skyraider. I was worried the shape would be difficult to do with a low enough number of parts for it to run smoothly. I still need to add weapons, drop tanks, and try to improve the handling a little. -

Geez, I thought it would be harder than that this time. I can't send the file right now, but I will as soon as I can get to my computer. -

Same deal as before, if you can guess the aircraft before anyone else I'll give you a beta craft file (@MrMeeb is disqualified because he guessed the last WIP aircraft I showed). -
So he knows enough about the forum to figure out how the spoiler tool works, yet not enough to know that he should give a detailed explain action so we know what he's talking about. Not sure if troll or legitimate.. Alright, fine. Let me get it out out my system just in case. Jacksepticeye? More like Jack-septic-content. Go watch Scott Manley or someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Glad to see it got approved, but dammit, I was saving up for a new car and a Mosin-Nagant rifle! Now I've got to scrape up the money for this... this... beautiful...work of art, and knowing Lego, the price is going to be at the very least over a hundred bucks, likely more, given the amount of pieces and detail in the set.

Yeah, I'm using the recompiled DLL with KerbPaint. -

Yeah, that may be the reason it didn't work when I tried it. KerbPaint sort of works, in that the part turns blue when I press P, but the menu doesn't appear, and the shaders are all messed up. I heard that running BD armory and KerbPaint caused this, but I don't have BD installed right now, unless Vessel Mover counts. -
I've got some cash- what Flight Sim to buy?
pTrevTrevs replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in The Lounge
True. I'm still considering getting it after I find a good joystick for my computer. I have one that my father bought sometime in the 1990s, but with the advances in computer technology since then, my laptop doesn't have any ports that the joystick will fit in. In fact, the plug on the stick is slightly thicker than my laptop when it's unfolded... If you do want a good looking combat flight simulator though, there is Rise of Flight. I have it, but haven't been able to get into it because of my lack of a joystick. -

How has nobody here suggested IL-2 Sturmovik? I heard it's one of the most well done WW2 flight sims around.
