What Are Things You've Heard That Made You Facepalm?
Hcube replied to michaelsteele3's topic in The Lounge
Had loads of fun watching this video, thanks for sharing ! Best part is when he says that the rocket should go straight up because shortest path from A to B is a straight line Hmmm... the "see the smoke ? engine is losing efficiency !" is very funny too, not sure wich one i prefer... Adding another wonderful quote to the collection : "You cannot prove that you have been to Australia, so it is common sense that Australia does not exist. So for sure the earth can not be round" -seen on the flat earth society forums. Still not sure if troll or real retardation... -
1.0 and Beyond... Where are the clouds?
Hcube replied to klesh's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Asking better aero for years has not much to do with squad making a new one in 1.0 : in fact the old souposphere had always been a placeholder that would have been replaced anyway, whatever the community said..... While squad does listen to the community they often make some very weird (arguably bad) choices (**cough** 1.0 **cough** PS4 **cough**). Anyway we should be happy that they do listen to us pretty often ! i still want those damn clouds... and a relooking for the sky/the horizon. Isn't the fact that it is white bugging anyone else ? -
i just looked up that flat earth society forum, and wow i it funny ! I used to browse the comments section in youtube to get a laugh but now i think i'm gonna browse this forum. There truly are some pearls right here : " get used to it there is no phenomena like gravity people stay in ground because they are heavy than air. why we are heavy because heaviness is a constant in nature it's something that has its own validity." If you ever feel down or that you made a bad mistake in your life... just browse that forum for a few minutes and you will feel blessed by nature EDIT : actually it's a bit scary

I have only minor mods like Chatterer, KER, Kerbal Alarm clock and Clamshell fairings and yet the memory usage in 1.0.4 is rocketing to the ceiling. It definitely improved between 0.90.0 and 1.0 but has gotten worse with every update since...

1.0 and Beyond... Where are the clouds?
Hcube replied to klesh's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Trading features for performance doesn't sound like "polished and complete 1.0 game" to me. Seriously, where are the clouds ? And more importantly, when are we getting a proper sky ? Right now the horizon is just plain white, unrealistic and crazy ugly. I understand this game is not supposed to be pretty but that sky... urgh. You can see the darn clouds in the VAB and SPH, they are everywhere in the game trailers, and yet no clouds and a terrible-looking sky ingame ! And yes clouds do affect gameplay, especially if you are landing spaceplanes from orbit and need to figure out the landing spot... Anyway when i arrive at a planet and i look at it i'm always disappointed by how ugly it is without clouds I don't understand how the game is 1.0 , porting to PS4(rofl) and getting a multiplayer while it has crazy memory leaks, a skybox from 0.7.3 and not a single cloud. -

I'd like a 2.5m lightweight Gemini-like 2seat pod, it would have a wide base but be overall smaller than the Mk1-2 pod.
-
Oh i bought the game yesterday (yes, exams made me miss the steam sales ) and i wasn't even aware that there was an update going on ! I fon't expect it to de-orientate me though, since i only know very little about the game... it's more focused on advanced-game elements, right ?

As someone said above it would need a Kennedy-esque challenge to give SLS some actual missions, and given how useless such a challenge would be now, i don't think it's gonna happen. However SLS is nearing completion (solid structures, all engines were tested iirc) and orion successfuly completed its test flight so i'm pretty sure we will see SLS on the pad someday. Maybe twice or so, but it's probably not going to launch more times than that

What Are Things You've Heard That Made You Facepalm?
Hcube replied to michaelsteele3's topic in The Lounge
How about calm down with the quotings, Mr "no climate change" ? It's not about forbidding people to express themselves and give their point of view, it's about letting them and ignore them since huge amounts of data prove they are wrong, and because they are a tiny minority. Another thing that makes me facepalm is the people that talk in quotes and never say anything that comes from their own brain -

Youtube comments section is full of treasures... comment found in an ESA video : "ESA, NASA and all the other space agencies are liars and they made everything up. It is not possible to send anything because rocket engines don't work in a vacuum." -->so i told him that rocket engines actually worked better in a vacuum than in atmosphere, and asked him where he learnt this ridiculous stuff about rocket engines : "It is impossible that they work in vacuum because the gas expelled has no atmosphere to push on. It's the gas that pushes on the air and then pushes the rocket forward. Trust me i know it." --->MEGAFACEPALM Not only he is wrong but he is convinced that he is right ! -
The fanboyism exists because this is a KSP forum and Scott Manley is non-arguably amazingly good at the game. Back on topic, what could cause this kind of overpressure ? maybe the pressurization helium accidentally leaked into the LOX tank ? I'm not sure

On NASA TV : Aircraft about to go to failure location to inspect potential debris and pieces of the rocket (i guess, the voice wasn't very clear)
-
hmmm usually when MECO happens more than 3-4 seconds early the rocket fails to achieve orbit. here the failure was at about 15 seconds before MECo (i guess) so i'm pretty sure it's not doable
-
If it has been ejected by the explosion (if there was any) in "good" shape, it may have be able to deploy its chutes and land safely though. I don't know if there is a procedure for this kind of event.
-
Didn't see much of an explosion... Looked more like a structural failure with liquid oxygen escaping.
-
Hummm looks like a Rapid Unplanned Disassembly
-
Oh have you noticed ? SpaceX's stream has now a events timeline for ignition, staging, MECO... i had never seen it before, but it is a very nice feature

this is getting annoying... i'm spending more time posting here than actually playing the game (not even saying that my install is almost mods-free...) Specs : Windows 8.1 KSP 1.0.4 steam install Intel i5 4450 ....ty graphics card 8GB RAM Mods installed : Chatterer Stock fairings fix Kerbal Engineer Redux Kerbal Alarm Clock So i had a probe on a eccentrical orbit over jool, periapsis at about xxxkm. When i got near the periapsis i couldn't timewarp anymore (although i was not in the atmosphere) and got the following message : "Cannot warp faster than 1x whiile the ship is under acceleration" So i used the physics time warp instead for a minute or so, trying regular warp from time to time to see if it was working again... Alt-tab-ed out of the game for a minute, and when i came back map view was black screen and flying view shows me only the skybox(no craft, no jool, no sun etc...)... No input is working except the pause menu and the timewarp. Also, my framerate dropped from 60 to 10 when this happened. I also have the skybox-screen in the KSC view. No kerbin, no buildings. Any ideas for a fix ? It is very irritating I'm gonna try restarting the game now but i don't think that my progress will be saved... EDIT : restarting the game has made the KSC, the solar system and my probe re-appear, however i am still getting the part where i cannot timewarp "because of acceleration". I don't see how my ship could be under acceleration since the engine is shut down, the reaction wheels and SAS are turned off, and there are no RCS. The game isn't even letting me save and quit without losing my progression... talk about a finished game...

Really ? why not ?

The 1.25m LFO tanks connected with the LF 1,25m tank come to mind. The Jet fuel tank has a much bigger diameter, and it looks so wrong when connected to other 1.25m parts. The mainsail also isn't symmetrical and perfectly round (iirc). When clipping it into a tank a part of it comes out
-
Yeah that's what i was thinking. Electrons move inside the circuits, but do not leave the system.

Hey, just wondering at what altitude over the sun a ship is considered in low orbit ? I probably have the deltaV but i'd preferably like not to burn up. Thanks - - - Updated - - - Alright, experimented myself and it seems that the limit is at exactly one million meters. Feel free to close !
