Transferring mined fuel?
Mikki replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I use the Klaw on surface, dockingports in orbit. Quiet easy. Somehow like this: -
parts [1.12.x] 'Project Orion' Nuclear Pulse Engine
Mikki replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I buildt a medusa driven tug for 8.5 millions (including chemical giant launcher) in my alternate modded careerplay... As long as its in testing it remains in Kerbin Orbit for tugging tasks... attaching here a nuclear Laythe transfer tug with a giant mobile miner/ mining rig for Laythe landing... Its real expensive... Thrust limited to 10% is sufficient for this freight. But it is just "the thing"! I should have make a bigger LFO tank for the Vernor engines... -
parts [1.12.x] 'Project Orion' Nuclear Pulse Engine
Mikki replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Agreed...! It is really, really a crazy propulsion system... should be very expensive in careerplay, like some millions to buy in... and some millions to actually buy one to use it... "reasonable". OMG, it so cool! The sail is just gorgeous. Have to grab Tweakscale... again... omgomgomg Its also okay without Tweakscale... I have just seen the price tag... reasonable... I guess that soundeffects in atmosphere are WIP... nevertheless its absolute amazing! -
I am about to colonize Laythe in careerplay, several vessels are around in the Jool system waiting for further tasks... In Laythe orbit i have a quiet big thing hanging around, kind of a... yes.

Hello KomRADE! How is the weather?
-
I am currently mining dresteroids, preparing a massive Laythe colonisation campaign. I got a contract about 6.5 millions to wrangle a E-size asteroid to Valls orbit... and we realy need the funds . Two engineers are on board of this heavy duty nuclear mining/ fuelconversion tug...
-
Dresteroids! Can i wrangle them to solar orbit?

Admitted failure of my Jool-5 challenge Tylo landing... Planned lander has only half of required deltaV... Crew is safe, moving on to Laythe for further instructions. I made a bad mistake while engineering the Lander combination for Tylo, however. Pretty sad about it.

The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mikki replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
@sdj64 JOOL-5 attempt failed... Hi OP, i discovered yesterday a significant lack of deltaV on my planned Tylo landing. My Jool-5 attempt is definetly aborted, i will post some details on my CRAZY BANANA thread in the fan works later this weekend. Crew is safe, moving to Laythe for further instructions. Sad but true. I have learned a lot, i will retry the Jool-5 challenge soon! -
The game generated me a Heidi Kerman, a native german name, and i like it a lot! I got also a Enemy, from early 0.9 career on... and there is a Gusoly, sounds kind of russian, he is allways very calm and likes the booze too!

Hi Novagloe I play alot with the Klaw, looks like not all parts can be grabbed, fueltanks are somewhat granted grabable. Smaller parts refuse to connect. Releasing the Klaw in vicinity of lots of small parts can reject the Klaw-wearing vessel if it has little mass, aka RCS tug... Somewhat to try out before launching.

Laythe heavy vessel aerobraking (Glory of Kerbin), careerplay
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Oh, it is equiped with Kerbal Joint reinforcement... It didn`t wobble, maybe a little bit but the bottom heavy design and the parachute-like aerobrakes at the frontend made it stretched out flying straight and stable! I guess a smaller similar construction without KJR may rip-off the aerobrakes when there are too many... gonna try this too -
Hello all, I made up a short and interesting Picture Gallery for those who are looking for how to enter Laythe by cheap aerobraking! It is a low deltaV transit with multiple slingshot maneuvers on the Mun, Jool, Tylo and finally Laythe! In exact: KLO 300 km to Laythe AP about 300 km with 3000 m/s deltaV, far away from a optimized transfer window! Its separated to three parts, some pics have additional comments from me. The transfer is depicted with the important map views, and the vessel status is documented with resource and KerbalEngineerRedux tabs open to see the total deltaV, temperature, and all the other important stuff! (The vessel contains 383 parts and runs with about 50 frames per second, don`t ask me why, i have a native intel liquid coolingsystem on my Quad i-7 4770, plus 2x fast GPUs, it goes sometimes up to 3.9 ghz, extreme tweaked bios...) (Pease note, due to the size of the vessel it contains Kerbal Joint Reinforcement (Mod), thanks Yukon:wink:) Contract assembly and lifting from launchpad to orbit: (19 pics) http://imgur.com/a/0DwXM Vesseltransfer (Glory of Kerbin ) to the Joolian system: (25 pics) http://imgur.com/a/kOv15 Multiple aerobrake maneuvers with little LF use in Laythe athmosphere: (19 Pics, no comments made...) http://imgur.com/a/tYpjY (The KER readout showed once a critical temperature of 96% for some structural parts, it nearly gave me a cardial stop!) Some pictures for the curious with expensive broadbands, From first album: From second album: From third album: I hope it could give you some information of the situation on Laythe in the means of considering doing something similar with kerbaled craft... Inside this vessel are some ten of my most experienced Kerbals... also Jeb, Bob and Bill... I wish you all happy landings!

@Parkaboy! I just took the time to read your thread, and it`s just great! I wish you all success in whatever way you turn your story, had a good read and very interesting to see how people play their game actualy! Gonna take a closer look here from time to time! Very cool thread, i lke it! Greetings:D (take your time if you do this out of your careersave (obviously?), suddenly from a medium techtree away your imagination want be stopped anymore!)

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
Mikki replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When you start taking the contracts in the game a little bit too serious...: I really hope SQUAD implements some real crazy careergame objectives, achieving these is absolutly awesome... -
You got a amazing good story running, it`s just perfect to put the fans a big smile on their faces... Werner von Kermans statement is simply like in Real-Life, i had to laugh about it... GREAT! Good luck, EVE: Order Zero rules! :P

I.. I just aerobraked the "GLORY of KERBIN" in Laythes atmosphere!!! More than 3000m/s entry...OMG! AND NOTHING BURNED UP!
-
Jeb, Bob and Bill boarded the "Glory of Kerbin", fueled the vessel up to 90%, made a testflight to 5000 km Kerbin orbit. Bill decided to take a look for the engine department after a 350 second fullthrottle burn of 12 "Nerva`s"... I really don`t think he`s having further familyplans... When he came back he just mentioned: "Well, looks like we have to throttle down for the very long burns, we will see..." Jebediah: "What? No Way!" Bob: "Okay, lets order a additional radiator section... There is no way around it..." KSP Finance: "No comment."
-
Very much this, but testing reentry vehicles is often then when it comes to a serious kerbaled reentry... maybe i should copy your testingprogram... for the sake of my crews!
-
After making my first experiences in aerobrakeing at Laythe with a huge vessel, i get this contract: I just could not withstand, and besides my ongoing Jool-5 attempt i assembled this interplanetary stockparts monstrosity for the glory of Kerbalkind! I made a Album too for those who like to see more details in how i did it: http://imgur.com/a/0DwXM Here is a picture ready for departure, only some fueling up is needed maybe: This will serve later in the Jool system as mobile fuelstation after matching the contract... the command module in front is selfsustaining to do some minor tasks alone. I stacked some heatshields, who knows what i want to land on Laythe in the future... It can drill asteroid by itself, the mining rig is mounted on the bottom. The RCS tug is equiped with airbrakes to have more control during the maneuver in Laythe athmosphere, and making emergency slow-downs. I just hope it doesn`t rip off from its medium dockingport...

Thank you and well, i`m getting filthy rich here... Good luck with your mission, next time i know it even more better!!
