  1. I started off with a really early version that had the Mun but no maneuver nodes and certainly no Kerbal Engineer. Heck, our planes didn't even have landing gear, we just landed on skids and hope we didn't break our spines (and the entire plane). So how did I get to the Mun? Direct ascent. Aim somewhere ahead of the Mun's current position, timewarp 3 hours, see where the rocket ended up, note deflection error, launch with corrected firing solution. I pretty much smacked head on into the Mun at a ridiculous velocity on the third or so try. Oh... did I mention we had no probe cores back then too? Every single mission was manned I believe the "ultimate" in rocket design back then was also the mighty tricoupler, which, if not laced up as tight as a traditional corset, all 3 1.25m cores would flail about wildly like the Kraken's tentacles in flight for as long as the fuel lasted. Whoops, went off track there - okay, the hardest thing ever? Flight testing an unmanned recon drone. No, seriously, the drone was launched like an expended rocket stage with a radial decoupler off a Mirage IV jet bomber replica in flight, and my job was pretty much to fly in formation with the drone while taking notes of its flight parameters as it went supersonic in the stratosphere. I attempted to 'program' the drone's thrust, thrust vector, fuel load, and lift of its airfoils in order to try and achieve the maximum possible range. The drone had no SAS and no active flight controls so it felt like trying to mod guided missiles into 1990s flight simulators! I made the drone climb to the stratosphere right after launch, cruise at 15,000m and stay there until its fuel ran out. Most of the other (winning) entrants in this drone contest actually did the opposite from me, making it fly low and slow for up to 14 hours. But I decided I liked going as fast as possible, as high as possible like some supersonic Russian cruise missile that thinks trying to reach hypersonic speed before impacting is fun.
  2. I wonder if anyone has taken the hood off the KerbalWagen, to reveal the small bit of artistry in cramming the battery, fuel cell and probe core into a tiny space, in the spirit of the original Mini
  3. I believe I found a new use for robotic parts. http://imgur.com/gallery/Y4I41gv
  4. I use both anhedral and dihedral in this micro shuttle design to provide stability - such that it is possible to fly a batteries out, no SAS re-entry. Note there is -no- yaw authority at all, but the combination of anhedral and dihedral in this design makes pointing the nose accurately very easy using pitch and roll controls.
  5. Thanks for the compliments I will now be taking a break from the POS series, and work on a Kerbal Automotive Program. So far I've made / modified a 1989 Ford F-150 truck and constructed from scratch a sub-compact car that seats 4 astronauts. It will be fun to try and make a car ad or a Need for Speed style video.
  6. Meanwhile on Kerbin, a huge mobile restaurant was being tested back in the days of 1.0. An updated craft file can be found here.
  7. Real Kerbals don't look at explosions. Yes, the little car annihilated a 354 part massive rover after side swiping one of its (tomato and onion) wheels.
  8. Released the KerbalWagen - inspired by the early Volkswagens and the Mini Cooper, this affordable compact car seats 4 astronauts. Craft Thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/131697-KerbalWagen-Das-Auto-Affordable-cars-for-all-Kerbals-Compact-yet-seats-4-in-comfort?p=2140804#post2140804
  9. The Kerbal's Car KerbalWagen - Affordable Mobility for the Masses Background KerbalWagen was created by the Kerbal Labour Front as to date the Kerbal auto industry was comprised mostly of luxury vehicles, like the gargantuan F-150 Replica I tuned earlier that despite its massive size, seats just two. As only 1 out of 50 Kerbals owned a personal car, some carmakers sought to produce an affordable "Kerbal's Car", of which KerbalWagen is one of the examples. It is inspired by both the real world Volkswagen "People's Car" and the famous Mini Cooper. The KerbalWagens are built around a small but cozy 4-seater passenger cell with the most compact of powerplants in the front, and modest luggage space at the back. Download The Mark 1 KerbalWagen is available in two designs: 1) GTE Coupe - the coupe roofline will not accomodate astronaut helmets, and is meant for Kerbin use only. It has ample head and legroom for 4 non-helmeted Kerbals. Download KerbalWagen Mk1 GTE Coupe from KerbalX 2) Spyder - with roof removed, the KerbalWagen can be used as an all-environment rover, with space for 4 fully suited astronauts and a large luggage rack / rollbar for utility. 10. Couldn't find anything that looks like a shifter boot in KSP stock parts. Went to local diner then made this: Just need to clean the interior of ketchup now.
  11. After spending an entire work-night on the K-150 Kraptor S3 all terrain hooning vehicle, I decided it might be epic enough to warrant some car advertisement renders! Craft file and release notes: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/131253-Ford-Kraptor-Pickup-Truck-Low-part-airdrop-capable-ejection-seats?p=2139825&viewfull=1#post2139825 Unlike the previous monster of the X-Com scene requests, the K-150 should be a jiffy as real world automakers usually like standardizing their press shots in terms of content shown and perspective used. For this project we'll take inspiration from the Dodge Ram Rebel truck and some promotional photographs as seen in a below linked automotive blog. Scene 1: Within crew cabin, looking out of the windscreen at the mountains. Scene 2: A hard turn through the sand (Dust cloud o rama!) There are a number of photos showcasing a truck in all the above perspectives, in this article from Truck Yeah! @ Jalopnik http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/first-drive-we-figured-out-what-the-ram-rebel-is-by-tr-1705396977 Feel free to play with any other interesting angle too! The undercarriage close up is certainly fascinating as well. Scene ??? : You know those pictures that show renders of new cars in a backdrop of nothingness, or on a rotating circle thingie? BlueCanary would like some of these! Project Notes: As with the X-Com render, I'm certainly not requesting for all the above scenes - just do whichever is easiest depending on mood
  12. This is my second collaborative KSP build - the K-150 Kraptor S3 fuel cell powered all terrain hooning vehicle, chassis design courtesy of BlueCanary Details and craft file here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/131253-Ford-Kraptor-Pickup-Truck-Low-part-airdrop-capable-ejection-seats?p=2139825&viewfull=1#post2139825
  13. K-150 S3 Long Wheelbase (LWB) variant. Work Duration (This variant): 7 hours Improvements: - Longer wheelbase and wider track greatly improves high speed on-road handling - Front fascia styled after real world trucks, with a "monolithic" 80s appearance - Reinforced bed allows structural attachment to walls, styled to look like driving with the tailgate down - Crew cabin slightly more spacious with enclosed interior - Fuel cell controls now accessible from cabin - Faux steering wheel and column - Stability control gear now not necessary for normal driving - moved below cabin floor - Improved front bumper prevents aero kit from hitting ground - Added rear bumper - Rollbar added and spotlights relocated to rollbar - Brake light relocated to rollbar to avoid ground contact during spirited performance driving Action Groups: 1 - Toggle Fuel Cell 2 - Toggle Rear Wheel Steering (low speed use only!) 3 - Toggle Low Beam Headlights 4 - Toggle Spotlights B - Brake light actuation is tied to Brakes key Craft File for evaluation (Feel free to reupload to your own KerbalX account BlueCanary, as its your own chassis design still ) http://kerbalx.com/pandoraskitten/Ford-F-150-Replica---Type-S3-LWB
  14. I think I'm frankly amazed that it got into space in the first place! I might play with the SSTO craft you provided and work on balance and weight reduction but it's way beyond the original mission specifications. Still, sub-orbital point to point travel might not be out of reach of this design and I do have about 8 oxidizer tanks in the base design to play with, not counting the two in the tanks that may result in having to re-trim the airfoils for balance. So I might try an all-rapier or 4 Whiplash and 1 LVT-30 design since upper atmospheric drag is close to negligible. The base design can cruise at Mach 2.5 around 15km altitude while consuming just 1.5 units of LF per second. Most of the fuel is used up climbing and accelerating to cruise speed.
  15. Seeing this sign in real life made my day. I walked nearly an eighth of a mile grinning stupidly to get a closer look, as my puny potato cam had none of the resolution of my dual mount stereoscopic 576 megapixel biological optical sensors. I was headed for an interview closeby and the company did hire me, after a month of unemployment mostly spent in KSP. I thus declare KSP a life changing experience.
  16. Procedural parts don't import correctly.
  17. OK I put the Kraptor in Reddit! https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/3gulvl/wip_kerbal_truck_simulator_2_feat_k150_kraptor_by/ Let's see how the truck fares in competition with all the rocket ships out there "Kerbal Truck Simulator" is a parody video I made in reply to SCS Software's April Fool post mentioning a Kerbal Truck Simulator. I intend the second installment of KTS to be a parody of Ford Raptor commercials
  18. Thanks @Xephan, I might just pick this mod up so I can use the contents as cargo for Kerbal pickup trucks
  19. @Sharpy, you will love this mod then: Bargain Rocket Parts It does not have a cart of pillows, but it sure does have styrofoam cups and strings for antenna
  20. The key is start small or use proven designs then build on them. Try this old school stock truck for size, its easy to handle and rollover resistant. http://kerbalx.com/pandoraskitten/KMC-M1-King-Cab---Stock
  21. Rolling sandstorms and clouds piqued my interest. Tyre smoke from a street scene (making donuts!) and dust trails across the desert are go then
  22. Kerbal Truck Simulator 2 in production, thanks to the incredible BlueCanary A continuation of my April Fool's Twitter reply to SCS Software, the makers of the real Euro Truck Simulator series
  23. Hahaha hang on to the ladder sort of rescues are best! You can actually succeed in that if you have those little command chairs bolted to the outside of the craft. Or if you're devious, try to shut the kerbal inside a service bay (they do fit) and hope he doesn't glitch out. Or you can make a lander with a base that's fatter than the top, hopefully that gives the kerbal a place to stand while you rocket away.
  24. Sounds like you're having fun. Welcome to 'the program'
