I just got this idea to make a rover that runs around with low thrust separtrons and participates in jousting matches with lances of fire. -
PSA: Engine exhausts are deadly now
Goddess Bhavani replied to MalfunctionM1Ke's topic in KSP1 Discussion
So separtrons can be used as blowtorches! Fun new unintended feature. -
Okay, so this is possibly the worst place to ask for relationship advice. It's like OMG, I'm being accused of creating drama in the craft builder forums already. But anyway I trust the KSP community to apply moar booster strategy into every possible facet of life, soap opera stuff included. Here goes: I'm in a relationship where I'm doing good. Along the way in life I picked up some education in applied psychology and I can understand and help people with special needs so yeah, I am capable of handling and turning issues such as autism, ADD, psychosis, etc, into something positive in a person's life. But I'm having a hell of a time managing things; it's not like in my day job where resolving a problem means applying a solution and making sure it sticks. At some point in the relationship the partner's parents, and then the family, started using me as a sort of emotional punching bag to blame all sorts of problems onto my person (we don't even meet up or communicate online with the family, go figure). Every conversation with the partner becomes sort of gossip scandal where I did this and I did that and I will just reply - where do your parents/siblings fabricate all the stories from? I have used (in this order) tolerance, understanding, reason, problem-solving, assertion, and outright anger to stop people from leaving hate messages on my phone at work. Yesterday I lost it because a 10 year old kid hijacked the partner's phone, used it to send hate messages and when I called to enquire what was wrong, I get told off in low-class gangster talk to shut the F* up B****. I was like wow. Do they educate their kids? Manners? Respect for people 2, 3 times their age and contributing economically (yes I pay for my partner)? I left text and verbal warnings of that note. So yeah, I suck at relationships, although I am the 'people person' in my department and absolutely enjoy resolving issues raised by irate customers and formerly-hostile colleagues. I'm sorry for the rant but I feel like a failure. But I thought to ask before I go build some strange crazy thing in KSP 1.0.5 - how do people deal with a relationship where the family is toxic?

I had a teacher who told me this in college. The strategy kinda works well, even 20 years later. Basically you're a ship in a storm. You aren't supposed to run at flank speed and possibly break your hull trying to crash through the waves. Instead, if you're feeling lost, stressed, or overwhelmed, maintain constant effort until you have clear horizons. Once upon a time I was this depressed lonely person who had no friends and absolutely horrible grades thanks to the RL equivalent of being downvoted on sight - racial/gender discrimination. I just toughed out the 'I am lost growing up' stage by doing what I'm supposed to do; be it work or study or both at once, and eventually got a great job at an international IT company, where opinions and new ideas are respected, and basically, it's worth waiting 20 odd years under social pressure, not conforming to what passed for normality... basically, I'm a self trained professional, and my unconventional skills are appreciated by the organization because they work well in high stress situations to solve problems. Remember, there's no good in rushing or making drastic changes. Cruise through the thick of the present confusion. Do what you're supposed to do (school). Your path to glory will appear on its own

1.0.5, has it killed off the wheesley?
Goddess Bhavani replied to panzer1b's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Don't underestimate the wheesley! Stick two of those on a low part count, low transonic drag jet and you could build a range of low tech (decently) high performance transonic aircraft. Single wheesley - how about a MiG-15? Enough performance for jet training and light survey, capable of supersonic dives. 20+ parts on a single wheesley makes for a quick little plane. For VTOLs - it depends. I haven't had the change to try 1.0.5 yet but using wheesleys to try and VTOL a Mark 3 cargo transport was not very efficient due to the number of engines required... I would like to replace them with Panthers once I get my paws on 1.0.5 later. -
Hi, I'm glad this issue got followed up and yes I am the poster responsible for the above-mentioned "butthurt" response linked to above. It's fine everyone thinks this as some sort of point to pick on but consider the following scenario: 1) You got posted by winds of career change to the far side of the world and have been disconnected from a certain online community you know and love for the better part of IDK, several years, lurking time included. 2) Finally get the time to post a new idea 3) Idea immediately gets shot down. Wonderful feeling "coming home" to the image yes? Now, people are commenting that moving on and ignoring the rating is the "correct" thing to do. Well I'll tell you this - different people have different ways of communicating. A WIP thread is just that, a "I have this idea which I don't have the time to develop fully yet" - maybe you'd like to give pointers and ideas, considering a lot of veteran craft builders might have already done the same concept some time ago, judging by Reddit traffic. In the same fashion, do you think it appropriate to boo on a new startup business just because it's, IDK, new? Give the idea time and it can grow. Shoot it down and the idea will be dead before it begins. Thus, negative feedback - you have a choice, unlike everything and make other peoples' labour of love look like utter trash. Or exude some small manner of online courtesy - ugly, mismatched craft turn into splendid showcases in a matter of hours, days, or a couple weeks at most. Collaboration happens all the time here on the forums as you very well know and enjoy. Hell, for the collaborative projects I've done, great things blossomed with the barest of positive feedback while others were busy laughing at how mismatched, fat and ugly the original creator's craft was. Tell you what, if there's so much negativity floating around, I might even be able to put forth a business case here - things that get downvoted, disliked, laughed at, ignored; these are opportunities to make a junior craft builder / new player's KSP dreams come true. In many cases these "ugly ducklings" have very sound virtual engineering. They just need a good presentation, some streamlining, not get downvoted on sight, to succeed as enduring threads. Thanks once again everyone for bringing the issue to the attention. The above-linked idea did take off after all, thanks to virtual 'backers' of the idea on Reddit, Facebook, and YouTube. It didn't struggle to gain flight; it exploded with great feedback allowing fellow KSPs to design and enjoy a new class of aerospace craft. With mod parts, they might even look as good as the retro-futuristic posters and pulp fiction they came from.

Could we have tags for "airplane" "rocket" "contraption" and "giant robot" to facilitate faster browsing somehow? Subforums would be bad (due to division of traffic) but more tags beyond stock / mod craft would be nice. Also, stock craft seem to be much more popular/get much more immediate positive feedback than mod craft. IDK, stock wins from convenience but the majority of my craft viewers don't necessarily want to download the craft file and fly it themselves. Prettiness counts too

PSA: Engine exhausts are deadly now
Goddess Bhavani replied to MalfunctionM1Ke's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Has anyone done the classic Top Gear test to check if engine exhaust from the big new turbofan could destroy a Citroen 2CV? -
Fan request - F-20 Tigershark replica! Simple rough replica with just 30 stock parts. The agility of this design is absurdly good. It would work better in 1.0.5 with the afterburning turbofan.

1949 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 Replica
Goddess Bhavani replied to Goddess Bhavani's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Thanks for the kind feedback on the humble MiG I just reached home very late, fired up KSP, about to faint on my pillows but.... I was thinking about the F-20 at work and would like to give you this: - It's a bit rough around the edges but at just 30 parts and low tech, it's pretty accessible for smaller nation-states and very deadly. The maneuverability of this design is absurd (the Tigershark is nearly as agile as an F-16!). Those leading edge root extensions work as advertised although they don't help in cruise performance. This design should work nicely with an afterburning engine in 1.0.5 or a turboramjet. -
Here's a cool early jet fighter - MiG-15 stock replica with just 22 parts. Craft thread

Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-15 Transonic Jet Fighter Stock KSP 1.0.4 Aircraft, 22 parts Download @ KerbalX The MiG-15 for its time was a very advanced aircraft, utilizing swept wings for vastly improved performance over its straight-winged NATO adverseries in the Korean War. Only the F-86 Sabre could match the mighty MiG in a dogfight! In its Kerbal MiG-15K configuration, it serves the space program as a very efficient single seat jet trainer capable of supersonic dives thanks to clean aerodynamics. With rugged landing gear and very low operating costs, the MiG-15 is well suited for rough field operations. Designed decades before the advent of digital flight controls, the MiG is also very easy to operate thanks to its positive stability setup; it doesn't require SAS for stable flight. Due to the recent ban of vintage aircraft aerobatics in the UK, I thought it fitting to construct a warbird of my own in KSP. I think fellow aircraft and military aviation enthusiasts would agree it's a fine use of KSP as a physics and flight simulator! With that in mind, which historical warbird would you like to see next?

I've been using Scatterer happily for a couple of months and the dawn and dusk effects are just spectacular. Recently when running DX11 I've had a game suddenly slow down during atmospheric flight and then the clouds turned black; EVE itself works fine but whenever I run Scatterer on this instal I will see black sky above the clouds and no amount of reinstalling EVE or tweaking BoulderCO clouds settings could restore the normal sky. Is there a fix for the 'black sky' issue? Edit: Fixed - searched the thread and confim loading a craft, zooming the camera out to orbit and back restores the normal sky. Edit 2 I do have one other request - Can i make the 'background fog' effect on Kerbin more prominent at midday? Currently the default settings look most glorious at dawn and dusk only.

War Thunder - Screenshots and Discussion thread!
Goddess Bhavani replied to Columbia's topic in The Lounge
Compared to the drama queens of WoT the War Thunder players are like silent Terminators lurking hull down invisible in the far-away hills. It's certainly a very different experience and it pays to know armor tactics and tagging along with tankers that know what they're doing! For certain tech levels it's not possible to win without teamwork. KV-1 vs Tiger I for example requires some creative thinking on how to kill the Tiger. -
This is the closest resemblance to a car I can find on my hard drive. Shameless plug; there are many great basic land vehicles shared over the past few months but this is mine. Kerbalwagen In the absence of a clearer description from OP I wonder if we can act like a bunch of car salesmen and match the prospect to a suitable product?
-
Oh my that is all sorts of excellent. Retro rockets ftw
-
Welcome back! I'm an old lurker from 2012 too, but I came back Jan 2015 in time for 1.0 The new changes are great, it's like many good mods are being streamlined and integrated into the core game, with such stuff as turbofan engines, comms range simulation and other stuff coming in 1.0.5.
-
Oh I didn't know it was such a prevalent problem, sorry for the rant and it's great you guys already are taking steps to try and mitigate whomever's doing the uncouth stuff; a craft dev thread to me is like a 'home' to come to after work to see if a certain idea or project could take flight faster than others in the pipeline (no pun intended). On an offtopic note it was nice to see a Super Kerbonaut on Reddit take action against the rampant downvotes as well. Hell, I wonder why it happens in the first place, there being thousands upon thousands of ways to make all sorts of craft work in Kerbal. Don't like a craft? Different design tastes? Build and share! Back on topic... SSTO rockets are absurdly fun because of the thrill and speed of ascent, although good fuel and payload planning is something I've yet to learn. My 'training' rocket has a rather rough descent profile too but I played along with it being a ship for space cadets and junior captains seeking their first commercial rocket pilot license. Without further ado, I present the R-1T "Corporal" Suborbit Trainer. Now available on KerbalX in its outdated yet fairly efficient form; capable of rapid point to point suborbital travel or even SSTO with a good grasp of rocket engine management and ascent profile. It has virtually no cargo capacity at this point, being an aerodynamic testbed with seats for just one instructor and cadet pilot. I hear you on the service bay! I'd rather hide the RCS sphere tanks and spare batteries inside the SB than to leave them outside the craft though; enough stuff stuck to the skin and it does lose some aerodynamic efficiency. I thought the 'rough' shape of the craft reminded me very much like very old US space program rocket designs, like the Vanguard, with its odd but charming tapered shape and blunt nose. I intend to gradually upsize my rocket projects and make cargo and commercial variants for each "size" class. I don't think I'll be building anything smaller than Size 2 due to obvious need for as much fuel fraction as possible. A body shape like Foxtster's excellent design would be optimal.
-
Since my non-spaceplane SSTO thread got downvoted immediately after it got posted (for being different??), I thought to reply that in a world filled with hate and despair, daring to dream is what we should all do. Because we can.
-
Can you say, Retro Rocket? Interestingly, the idea of a non spaceplane SSTO is somewhat effective and very entertaining to experiment with, despite the rather cold reception in the craft builder forums. Before anyone even dared to daydream of spaceplanes, rocket ships were all sorts of cool! This vertical takeoff, horizontal landing concept could be easily taken one step further to create Thunderbirds style VTOLs. It just needs to be scaled up to carry useful amounts of payload.
-
Appearances are not really the objective at this point. Over the past 2 days this absurd idea of having a non spaceplane SSTO borne fruit and resulted in several innovative new ways to use rocket ships. Since there's little in the way of interest here I'll pursue development and sharing somewhere else, thanks to whomever rated a clearly labelled, for-fun. work in progress thread a 1. If the community is going to be so negative with new ideas and experimentation I might as well go somewhere else.
