  1. Shadow, I'd like to state here publicly that I find your mod one of the best overall mods for KSP. Not only it solves the high-part-count problem and the low fps it causes (which was always one of the major problems, specially for RO+RSS), but also your parts are beautifully made and everything is very well implemented, everything well done, from the forum post all the way to the most complex part and feature. Now, since you do love the concept of KR&D, would you consider integrating something similar within SSTU? Incorporating a mod can be complicated, but maybe if instead you did something similar from scratch to be part of SSTU core... I can only imagine what a beautiful outcome of a mod it would be. KR&D came to my attention after a mod idea I had which I posted here: KR&D is "somewhat" pointed in that direction, but not quite. What I had envisioned was more in-depth. Had elements of KR&D, RO, KRASH and SSTU. I know a fair bit of 3D modelling but coding has never been my forte, not since I finished computer engineering university 12 years ago. Maybe we can work together on something, if you're willing to take the plunge. I'm willing to offer all possible assistance, if you think this is doable and worth the effort. I'll be sending you a PM to continue this without hijacking your thread.
  2. I've done quite a bit of search around the forum and specially in this topic and I cannot find benchmarks of KSP in Windows 7 vs 10. It's my understanding that KSP has no support for Directx 12, so I'm expecting an equal or worse performance on Windows 10. Has anyone tested it?
  3. @DrLicor 10 is a dumbed down version of 7. This guy is building his own case and he's modding the game, therefore he's an advanced user. Advanced users hate dumbed down versions of softwares. All the big icons and crap added, all the advanced settings and tools removed or hidden away, visually I find it uglier too. The ONLY promising thing about Windows 10 is Directx 12, and at the moment most games are running slower in Directx 12 compared to 11 (do a quick google search and you'll see some ugly benchmarks). The thing is, for a game to take advantage of the new D12 API, it's engine needs to be developed from the ground up to use it's benefits, and at the moment I think only a couple of titles have. At the moment, if you're a gamer, moving to Windows 10 will in fact give you less fps in general, averaging all your games. I'm pretty sure KSP get no benefit from the change. Unity 5 is largely CPU based, KSP was never graphically intensive and KSP doesn't have Directx 12 support (I think). I'll be more than happy to see benchmarks of KSP in Windows 7 vs 10 using the same hardware, but really surprised if Windows 10 offers better FPS at all. If it does, I might consider switching to it myself, providing I can find a way to make the start menu and overall look of it similar to Windows 7 Aero. I'm sure there are tools released for that already. But back on topic!
  4. OH GOD NO! Don't get 10, get 7. 10 is a stinking piece of garbage. And no need to go into town, you can get your copy at TPB. Cheap prices and fast delivery. Not too worry, I've deleted my whole install and put together a new RO+RP0 one with RVE. That will suffice to keep me busy for a while, so no rush. Please do, love seeing different pc builds. Next year I'll be starting on mine, using the desk itself as the case, glass on top so you can see all the pretty colors and liquids moving about. 5. How many hours are you taking per bolt you screw into place? XD May I suggest this? http://www.asseenontv.com/gator-grip-universal-socket/detail.php?p=296303
  6. After so long in KSP, this mod just came to my attention. I didn't know about it's existence and I wish I had. Brilliant. This definitely should be part of the stock game.

    KSP Making History

This mod just came to my attention. THIS is definitely the type of thing that should be added as part of the stock game, full stop.
  8. Kind of a long shot, but any chance this is compatible with Realism Overhaul?
  9. @raidernick what is your personal opinion about SSTU?
  10. Hey guys, I've done some research and read multiple pages on both RO and RP-0 threads, and yet I can't find a definitive answer to whether or not SSTU is fully compatible with RO and RP-0 career. I find SSTU one of the best mods to ever come out for KSP. I've always played RP-0 up to a certain point in the career where my ships would start going beyond 200 parts and then I'd just be obligated to stop due to horrible FPS during launch and specially inside the VAB. Thanks to SSTU that's finally gone. While it does take away a bit from the joy of fitting each individual part as you'd like it to be, it completely gets rid of the low fps problems, at least for me. I've been able to make a full Saturn V trip to the moon and back with all the same parts (mostly) as the real thing, with as few as 50 parts. My most ambitious creations never have gone over 80 parts, and if I tried building the same vehicle without SSTU it would be well over 300 parts and be a royal pain to build and launch. I've read some parts are ok, others are listed as non-RP-0, others (SRB) don't even work. I haven't tried myself, I'm slowly putting together a RSS+RO build for 1.2.2. So, what is the verdict? And what is the general consensus from RO crew about SSTU and perhaps making it a "recommended" mod?
  11. Yeah must be something you changed for 1.2.2. Will wait till you upgrade your computer and re-visit the issue

Apparently my post was too long or you didn't read it well or I failed to communicate. I agree with you 100%, Squad SHOULD take the best mod ideas and include them to the game as stock features. My point is they shouldn't charge us for it. They should charge us for content that was not or cannot be modded into the game. If I give you a gun and you shoot yourself in the head with it, some may argue that I'm partially guilty. Some may disagree. What happens if "oh my god, the game is soooo much more stable with the DLC for whatever reason, we (modders) should all start developing mods only on top of the DLC from now on!" Again, I hope I'm wrong and this doesn't happen. I'm not accusing anybody of anything, I'm simply expressing my concerns. By working in the videogame industry, I know there's a lot of evil going behind the curtains that companies do to get the ball curving their way in the long run, almost imperceptible changes with an agenda. I've seen it enough to make me sick of it and quit a couple of developers because of it. Sure, there are bad guys and good guys and Squad always seemed to me like they play for the good guys team. But trauma is trauma, it puts you on your back foot every time. I just voiced my concerns and feedback, Squad heard and that's all I wanted. The ball is on their hands now. This has dragged long enough, we should all let this die down. This. Bohemia, when they release a paid DLC, allows all player who do not have the DLC to participate in matches with people that do have the DLC. They see a lower quality texture version of the DLC, or they see a vehicle that is part of the DLC and can interact with it to a point, but cannot drive it or use it in a particular way. It doesn't try to split the community so people with DLC can only play with others that also have the DLC, excluding the rest. In this sense, if Squad is coding this in a way that mods can be develop for those with and without DLC in a very flexible manner and in the end if only a matter of taste separating those with and without DLC, then yeah by all means go for it.

Nice to see there are more of us around! Surely you've heard of Philipp Thomsen's Sound pack? Or another of my many mods Yes I understand what you mean. KSP does feel like a cheap game for the fun it provides, in contrast to so many other games I have on my Steam that did cost a lot more and provided a lot less fun. F1 2016 was the worst purchase. Paid 69 dollars on it and my god, what a piece of garbage. Regarding modding, it's crucial isn't it? I can't imagine gaming without. Mods are the reason why PC games are at least 10x more fun than console games. Maybe this is one of the reasons we see certain modded contents or similar going into DLCs, so people on consoles can enjoy them. /threadhijack
  14. Actually I gave you false information. 97 parts is shown counting all the endless cameras and launch towers I have. The Saturn V itself is 49 parts. Yes, 49 parts to do everything you saw in the video. You should definitely give SSTU a try. And there were a few redundant and unnecessary parts. I bet I can do a full Saturn V mission to the moon and back, exactly like the real thing, with as little as 30 parts. Tried removing one by one and mixing and yeah it is your textures. Gotta find a way around it. Was I supposed to remove the RSS-Textures folder? What FPS numbers are you getting with your own mod during launch of a vehicle around 50 parts? Also, what FPS are you getting overlooking KSC, without entering any buildings? Oh god I didn't need that mental image...

Well we can only judge on what you guys decide to share. So far this is the information we've got and this is our feedback based on that info. Same as above. If there are (or there will be after all the negative feedback) items or features that cannot be achieved through modding, then I'll have my mouth shut. By saying "If they worked harder" I am not saying you guys didn't work hard. I'm pretty sure you all do, as this is probably one of the only developers I know, alongside Bohemia, that doesn't constantly rip off their customers with garbage. Your product is really good and your constant updates show how much you care about keeping your product getting better and better. However, when it comes down to a PAID DLC, I'm stating that I'm 100% sure you guys could've done something better than what was announced as the DLC content. Except, of course, what was announced is the tip of the iceberg and for some reason it was decided not to announce all of it. In which case, refer to the first quote's reply. I'm fully aware that modding on DLC will depend on modders and modders alone. And I very much appreciate people like you, who will keep their modding update to benefit both sides of the party. What I tried to state is I'm afraid down the line people that decided to not get the DLC will be left out and forced into it. The DLC will not affect people who don't use mods in any way, shape or form. But the majority of us uses mods, and this is the part of the community that needs to be taken more seriously. Why? You gotta remember that is thanks to modding that this community has flourished and is one of the most active communities I've ever seen. Look at the numbers of posts, topics, visitors, the addon section is on the top. It's thanks to modding that an endless number of videos are constantly posted on YouTube, attracting even more players to come and buy your product. I know how marketing works, I work in the videogame industry. I know how powerful YouTube can be and how much it can impact on your player-base and sales, and I know for sure your numbers wouldn't be the same if this game wasn't as open to modding as it is. I did a lot of work on modding for a game called Silent Hunter 3, back in 2009. One of my mods had over 45k downloads, a sound pack. That game was released back in 2005 and it is to this day one of the most active communities I know, with new mods being released on a daily basis, and some big mega-mod projects even coming out in videogame magazines. 12 years have passed and that game is still being sold, thanks to the modding community that keeps it alive. I guess my point is, modding brings more players and possibly more profit to the company than a DLC would in the long run, not from modding alone but from all it involves. I have friends who purchased KSP only after they saw what modding could do to the game, and stated they wouldn't have done otherwise. So when releasing a paid DLC with weak content (again, only based on the information that was given us), you will cause the community to split, modders to split, and the consequences of it can be catastrophic. I'm hoping like crazy that I'm wrong about this, cos KSP is by far the best game I've ever played. I've tons of creativity and KSP is the only game to date that I've played that allows me to put all that creativity into action and see it all unfolding in front of my eyes, and not only in my imagination. Best of luck to us all. We've been getting ripped off by videogame companies for so long that when one company does what it's supposed to do and release a decent, fully functional product, we think they are god. Back when Blizzard was still called Silicon & Synapse, games weren't made only with the intent of profit, but rather made by people who love what they were doing. Games didn't have the graphics and sound design we have nowadays, but my god they were FUN! Later on, when people realized the money they could make out of this industry, companies started spitting excrements after excrements and shipping is as "games". Much more expensive that they once were, and with much lower quality. Some are empty shells really. And this generation (25 yo and younger) grew so accustomed to this that when they see a decent and well-made game like KSP, they go nuts. And they should, perhaps. It's just sad.
  16. Above in orange. Thank you for taking the time to write a comprehensive post, I really admire that, instead of the usual tl;dr.
  17. I was under the impression GemFX worked only on 32 bit versions of games, hence why I didn't bother trying to use on KSP. Am I wrong? Cos I can't for a second imagine you used 32bit version of KSP with this texture mod, lol. So what's the trick? Also, I've noticed there's not a single star in your screenshots. Is it a side-effect of GemFX or are you using a pitch black version of the sky? @ufindbatman ty very much for this mod, I was looking for something like this for a long time. Two questions tho: In orbit, looking at Earth, its lovely and I have over 100fps, but when I'm on the surface it drops down to 10-15 fps. Normal? Or is it Scatterer doing that? And two, In orbit I have clouds and looks great, but on re-entry I don't have a single cloud, all the way to the ground I don't go through any clouds like we do on RVE. Normal? Here's one of my videos using your texture mod: I followed the installation steps to the letter, twice.

When I saw news of a DLC, I got excited. Now I see what the DLC will bring, I'm disappointed. I see people saying we have the moral obligation to keep the company afloat. It's not our moral obligation, we already paid for the product, the company needs to sell it to new customers, that's how it works. I'd like to repay you for the XXX number of hours of fun you have provided me. Again, you already paid. You paid for a game and you've enjoyed it. Unless you've got it for free? I didn't. DLC's should always be optional, and they should be developed and implemented with this thought in mind. A DLC shouldn't in any way twist the players arms into buying it in order to be able to keep playing. I can see this happening here with mods that will be developed in a way "you NEED to have this DLC in order to install my mod". It would be all fine and dandy if the DLC offered stuff that we don't already have with mods. Something BIG, something hard-coded, something not achievable with mods. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the features of this DLC I've only read stuff that we already have with mods. To take something already developed by the community with hard work, incorporate back into your product and sell back to the community is just cheap. These guys developed a great game, I'm sure they could've done better. I'm sure they could've done something to the code that we don't have access to, adding content impossible to be added through modding. Myself, for instance, I only play with RSS+RO. I find Kerbol system too easy, not challenging. It's a personal choice. The content of the DLC has absolutely nothing that interests me. And that's FINE, not all DLCs need to please ALL players. Many games have tons of DLCs, some aimed at players X, others at players Y in order to please everyone, and the most important part is, if you choose to NOT buy DLC X, you can still enjoy the game and features you have paid for. The issue is, I'm afraid somewhere down the line, mods like the ones I'm enjoying at the moment will get updated to run on top of the new DLC and from that point onwards only people who purchased the DLC will be able to use it. Not to mention this DLC will split the modding community and make things already harder than they are. This is why I'm frustrated. If they had worked a bit harder on this DLC and offered something big that COULDN'T BE ACHIEVED THROUGH MODDING, then I'm sure the vast majority of us would be more than interested in paying for it, and all of the modding community could move the same direction, developing new stuff on top of new content, and everybody would be on the same page. I foresee a big storm coming. I hope I'm wrong.
  19. I'm just hoping RO and RP-0 and necessary mods are relased for 1.2.2 before 1.2.9 comes out, otherwise it will be a pain, as some mods get updated, others don't, and it's not always that easy to find older versions of certain things.
  20. Yeah Im working on a concept to be able to show, I was just interested to see replies to gather whether or not people were interested or liked the idea, and whether or not this has been tried or discussed before. I was waiting just for general feedback. I've a multitude of ideas in my mind regarding all of this. I'll try to put into visuals so it's easier to understand, might take a while! =) But thank you for your feedback!
  21. Well I was hoping for a reply after 125 views... Anyone has any idea if this is at all possible to mod?
