  1. I'd say real kerbals use landing gears and jet-propulsion for buses. SRB's for extra points. Don't hand out any. Though I think the current one is good because it's bad. I'd definately wouldn't change it to the most popular choice.
  2. KerbPaint mod? I never used it myself, but despite it's version number, I keep seeing it used in 1.0.5. Guess it will let you experiement until you find the exact color you need.
  3. Alternatively, you could give Extraplanetary Launchpads a go - it will require you to move numerous, big, bulky and/or heavy equipment to the site. That's a fun project in itself. Than you can set up a mining rig to get the raw materials for the smelter to make rocket parts, than you'll only need to refine some fuel for the first launch. Wish I had the patience to do the above.
  4. I constructed an especially cute craft called the Itsy Bitsy Vtol. It's very low construction and operating cost is a bit overshadowed by the fact that we had to rebuild the VAB seventeen times before we could make the shots below for the press. The landing grider on it's belly isn't part of the official design. It's just a crutch for rookie pilots, but we had to use it as we lost all the experienced ones during the testing process.
  5. I don't get it. If you want a functionality a mod provides, use it. It won't just disappear.
  6. Lovely. I played Evochron Mercenary back in the day, and it was a pretty fun one. Thanks for calling my attention on the next installment.
  7. Just got back to GAP after doing some space stuff and graduating in the seaplane school of Mikki. So many features and updates, really nice. Hope you actually paln to slow down this time - I was mainly away for I couldn't keep up with the pace of improvements. What aspects are you interested in? I can't really stream or record, but I don't mind documenting my attempts and approaches in less resource intensive ways.
  8. I didn't mean the technology (hell, I read and hitch-hike too, still celebrating every towel day), but the origin of the stealth ships. It's pretty questionable at this point in the series.
  9. Thought I mention that pushing a craft under with engines feels -a lot- easier than using ballast tanks. Here are some kerbals visiting a wreck near KSC (from GAP contract pack).
  10. Noooooooooo! Why you had to spoil it? That's even worse than the times I figured out the truth about Santa and reproduction.
  11. Yup, that's a fake news site. Though it's fun to see a few real news sites not checking the source and quoting the article as it is. Most didn't fell for it though.
  12. I really hope that wasn't a spoiler from someone who read the books. Based on the series, I'd love to think the martians are lovely ideallistic fellows who has nothing to do with nuking civilians. Such actions would fit the careless and destructive Earth people more. That reminds me - I'm an episode behind, let me catch up.
  13. I wouldn't mind the advanced transfer function's porkchop tool either. I know I can just fire up my browser launch, the transfer planner, find my window and aim manually for the ejection angle.. but it's so lovely to have ingame.
  14. The modularity. Most of the mods I use would be a dlc in many other games. Some are as big and complex as full blown expansions. And you guys are making them en masse for free. Yay!
  15. Playing Laythe Space Program, and yet to face an uncompletable or obviously buggy mission. There are some (tiny) quirks here and there, but those are barely noticable. The Control Center considers my crafts on 60km to be suborbital. But hell it's Laythe - you most likely wont have a problem raising your tourists for another 10km. I didn't get World's First missions pointing to Joolian moons, but I keep getting the usual ones like plant flag, bring science, orbit tourists, rescue sillies, test junk etc. The difficulty is of course for you to tailor for your needs. You won't get an inetrplanetary multiplier for doing stuff in the Jool SoI. The initial science progression isn't much 'off' from the standard Kerbin career: there are more moons but less biomes on them and on the home planet. You obviously won't use as much funds as on Kerbin, as it takes less to orbit - I'd suggest a ~50% income reduction for keeping the pace as it was in your favorite career setup. Tylo's multiplier feels a bit too much for science and contract payouts. I mean landing there is obviously hard, but I feel I'm overpayed for flybys and orbits and rescues in it's SoI. I'm yet to get high Jool orbit missions where the moons derail or destroy your targets - but I'd consider these a feature and not bugs. The interplanetary phase most likely gonna be easy too.. Those lucky Joolian kerbals have Tylo to swing them out, and they can also exploit Jool's mass for a sizable Oberth boost. Now someone should start a 'normal' career on Eve and tell us how it was.
  16. A user recently gave me an idea to save on the heathshield / parachute budget: Ok, I can't say I checkedif it's actually lighter or cheaper than the standard reentry equipment... But it's a great fun to use.
  17. Banned for the eye-burning avatar.
  18. Welcome back! So, mods. Hmm. Just a few I could think of: Kerbal Krash System is a pretty new one, but it gave me -so much- joy already. I wouldn't take a step without it. If you're up for a career mode, check GAP contracts. If you like planes and such you'll love it, but pick it even if you don't 'cause it has some awesome missions. If you rather have the mood for much instant space-stuff, consider starting from another planet with Alien Space Programs. I'm having a blast on it. Ahh, and if you want a super-realistic hardcore NASA sim, go for Real Solar System and Realistic Progression. EDIT: Forgot KIS-KAS. I think everyone has it. Even if they don't use it. (note: the above are subjective picks without knowing your KSP preferences. So will be the rest that will follow in the thread)
  19. Ahh, indeed aerobrake in this case. Aimed for ~64k pe, and yeah took two passes and a bit of eva fuel to park on LKO. I really wonder if I could do this from interplanetary space. My guess is.. not likely. But kerbals keep surprizing me with their resilience and creativity to to save themeselves from certain deathtraps my sloppiness creates for them. Maybe I could try it with a Mun assist...
  20. Daily report from the Laythe Space Program: I can't get bored for going around with random assists.
  21. Umm... you know.. I'm just curious. Anyone has experience on that matter? Maybe enough math expertise to give a ballpark number? By 'kerbal' I mean a kerbal in EVA suit. By aerocapture I mean a dip in Kerbin's atmo to get a elliptical orbit. I survived it coming back from the Mun and started to wonder about the limits of the technique.
  22. Kerbin -is- flat. The surface repeats infinitely to each direction, that's how it creates the illusion of being able to go around it. The misleading circular shape the kerbonaus see is the infinite flat surface bending space to fit into it.
  23. The best fun in KSP when you only notice a fatal design flaw when it's too late. One so rarely has the joy of discovering -two- fatal design flaws on the same simple mission. So join Gegnice Kerman for a moment on the first picture below, and try to spot both imperfections on her rescue craft before reading further... (...) Yes, the first problem as you very keenly noticed is the lack of entrance on the crew module. Gegnice tried to squeeze herself into the electronics compartment, but she kept damaging not just the precious microelectronics, but also the tank that held the fuel for the deorbit burn. It was kinda' decided at this point that the second standed kerbal will wait for the Rescue Craft Mk II. Luckily Gegnice happened to be an engineer, so she could fix the damage she was doing until she managed to find a comfortable position to whithstand the descent. The other problem she had to notice (after the deorbit burn) is a painful absence of parachutes. Happens even with the best. Her best chance for survival was to hold on to the capsule while it bleeds speed, and let it go for a high-velocty impact test of the EVA helmet. Though it got stuck into the compartment, and Gegnice couldn't get free by the jetpack. Death seemed certain... And electric charge ran out, the capsule started spinning, and a astronaut was flunged free (to fall). Best first day at a new job of ever.
