1. Has anyone welded wing segments? I would love to lower the part count on this ring station, but when I weld one of the four ring sections they freak out and are all at the wrong angles. The second image is what it does when I try to weld one of the upper pieces and two of the ring sections together. Any advice would be welcome.
2. Totally awesome! But... You said it's 100% recoverable, but I thought I saw the final stage being ditched at the very last so the capsule could land at the KSC. Not that it's a bad thing, just an observation.
3. Minmus does not have salt flats, YUK. Minmus DOES have have smooth mint ice-cream fields though, YUM. Smooth baby, smooth.
4. "Crapton": A new unit of measurement. Used for quantifying how much poo you got on your shoe when you stomped out the flaming bag-0-crap that was on your porch. OR Reaction wheels.
5. I guess I will ask again since nobody responded to my last post. How do you produce fertilizer now with 3.2 version of MKS-LITE. Thanks.
6. I hope I am missing something. I have installed the 3.2 version of MKS LITE and I can't figgure out how to close the life support loop. How do you produce fertilizer now. Is there not a way to have a remote base be self supporting now?
7. Has anyone noticed a problem with the latest revision of MKS Lite conflicting with EPL? I have been running an older version of MKS Lite and USI life support with no problems. I installed the most recent revisions of USI Life support, MKS Lite, and extraplanetary launchpads yesterday and things stopped working. Now the orbital dock and the launchpads don't load into the game. I removed MKS Lite and the EPL parts would properly load. Does anyone know what is going on?
8. Refueling from a container launched from Kerbin is great. But what if you want to build a closed loop system in the Jool system. Is there currently not a way to drill/mine and refine fuel for the reactors on other planetary bodies that is a stand alone mod or part of USI Lite?
9. RoverDude, do you have any plans to release refueling tools separately for the reactors? I am currently using your USI Lite mod and it does not provide any mining tools that extract fuel for your reactors. Of course I could be missing something or not have the latest releases of these mods. Thank you for your amazing mods! They add wonderful depth to an already awesome game.
10. White Knuckle, that is a gorgeous and ingenious ship design! I have not tried my hand at making ring sections for stations or ships yet like the one on your ship. Do you have any suggestions on how to make them?
11. Good news everyone! Rescuing kerbals early in career mode is a daunting task. But fear not, we have an answer to your kerbal recovery needs! Farnsworth rocket surgery is proud to introduce the Kerba-Not rocket series! The Kerba-Not rocket's are designed to recover kerbals that are stuck in orbit around Kerbin, the Mun or Minmus. The standard Kerba-Not rocket will recover kerbal in low Kerbin orbit. The long range Kerba-Not rockets are for Mun or Minmus recoveries. The MK I Kerba-Not Rocket is available fairly early in the career mode game and the other designs will become available as you acquire more science. And yes, the MK IV may have received some design cues from the Boeing Dyna Soar. All rockets are designed to be used with the Stage Recovery mod. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/78226-105-stagerecovery-recover-funds-from-dropped-stages-v162-010216/&page=1 If you don't want to use Stage Recovery then the extra chutes can be removed for part count and weight reduction. I hope you enjoy them! I will have them available on KerbalX shortly.
12. Ahh, the Roton. I always thought it was an interesting idea back then. However if I remember correctly, and I believe the web agrees with me: the Roton launched like a conventional rocket. It used the rotor system for landing and incorporated tip jets so the pilot could touch down under power instead of just autorotating. During launch and in orbit the rotor blades were folded flat against the rockets fuselage. The blades were only extended during reentry to help with stability and to start them spinning up. A totally awesome completely Kerbal design from the amazing 1990's.
13. I am in love with the MKS/OKS mod and the USI life support mod. Excellent job Roverdude! I am having quite a bit of fun in career mode seeing how soon I can launch a Duna mission that is self supporting and can build a training akademy for science. My first try took a four rocket caravan with 10k of rocketparts. Not optimal but it worked. Now I am looking at your MKS Lite version and I had a question. In the full blown MKS/OKS you have new models for the extraplanetary launchpads surface launching pad and orbital dock. Is there anyway you could include those models in the light version? Or let us/me know what files to move? Thanks!
14.
Well, the modding option is there, of course, but that doesn't take much from the argument... when you look at it, the new Mk1 is a plane cockpit, period. Gorgeous, but it only looks right when flying in an atmosphere, and play ridiculous on top of a rocket. The old Mk1 was much more... open ended? Short of like the shuttle parts: it is very difficult to use them in a modular fashion like the old aero parts, constricting the kind of designs that you can use and look right, at least in my eyes. And now I have jumped track and I think this rant has turned on a general criticism of Porkjet's parts.... but I'll go with it, because I am inspired. Don't get me wrong, most of them are awesome and the quality is consistently spectacular, but some of them are just too... constrained would be the word, I guess. They seem to look right only on a certain use, and put together in a particular order and fashion. Try to do a wing for a >100mT plane and you will see exactly what I mean, you will end up using the medium-size modular wing parts (with the consequent part count increase) or having a clipped mess that looks awful. Or the shuttle cockpit, which you immediately recognized when I called it "the shuttle cockpit". That thing will only ever look as good as good it's supposed to on top of a shuttle replica. Compared to the infinite variety of ships that KSP has spawned over the years, I feel like that is a fair warning to shout to the devs: we are in this because it is the LEGO of rockets, so do everything you can to stick to that spirit of options and variety, and offer only the slightest guidance... this game is, at its glorious green heart, a sandbox universe to toy with. Keep it as open as you can, please! Rune. But yeah... I want my old Mk1 back too. ;)
Thank you Rune, I could not have said it better myself. I want to reiterate, I don't want this to be a rant post against KSP or the new MKI cockpit. I am just asking if Squad would consider adding some variety in this arena, and to Rune's point with the MKIII, maybe some other places as well.
15. Please don't think that I am being a complainer. I am just finding myself wishing I had more cockpit choices for purely aesthetic reasons. Am I the only one who is feeling this way?
16. The new MK I cockpit is awesome! Love it. I also love the previous version on the Mk I cockpit. For jets and planes the new Mk I is perfect. However, I would prefer to use the previous version cockpit for spacecraft/ space-planes. Is there any reason we can not have both at our disposal? PPPLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE.
17. Love the videos! Keep up the good work!
18. Yea... it took some time, lots and lots of time... I had to re-introduce myself to my wife after the video was finished. She had forgotten what I looked like.
19. Motokid, thanks for the positive reply! It truly means a lot to me. I really hope this longer format movie/video appeals to KSP lovers and showcases just how amazing this space/physics-engine game is. Just make sure you go to the bathroom BEFORE you start the video, it's 26 minutes long! The Cicada follows the general aesthetic of all the Farnsworth Rocket Surgery designs. It seems either people love them or hate them...Oh well, that's how it goes I guess. I am going for unique with all my designs and I am excited when I DON'T see, "hey that looks like so and so's ships". If you would like to have more detail on the craft and be able to download it, you can find it here in this post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/138657-Cicada-long-range-landing-craft I am sorry the music was not to your liking. I felt like they fit what I was going for. I wanted something that added some emotion/tension/drama to the scenes. Maybe the next video I make will have something more up your alley. And yes, after almost a months worth of work, the first response I received was rather confusing and not at all what I was expecting. Thanks again Motokid.
20. Good news everyone! Farnsworth Rocket Surgery has been hard at work developing a long range landing craft. Meet the Cicada! Just in time for 1.05 to change it all up... The Cicada has refueling capabilities utilizing and onboard ISRU, ore drill, and fuel cell giving it a long range. The Cicada has room for three passengers. One in the front cockpit and two in the port and starboard 'wings'. All three crew compartments have boarding ladders. Before you ask, yes the fuel burns off evenly so that there is never an out of balance issue. However, while your refueling, the fuel will not fill evenly. So always check the fuel tanks if you only partially re-filled the tanks with the ISRU. The dual aerospike engines provide plenty of thrust and high pressure (atmospheric) performance along with vacuum fuel economy. The Cicada was also featured in a new Farsworth Rocket Surgery film. The Cicada comes with a launch vehicle for getting easily to LKO. Action groups: 1. Toggle Landing Legs 2. Toggle Landing Lights 3. Start ISRU, Start Fuel Cell, Lower Drill. Hit Action Group a second time to start the drill. 4. Raise and stop drill, Stop Fuel Cell, Stop ISRU. 6. Toggle Boarding Ladders. 7. Toggle Solar Array. Hope you like it! It has taken a ton of time to design. The Cicada is available through KerbalX in my signature.
21. Good news everyone! Just got the video finished and wanted to let everyone see it. I hope you like it.
22. Your Reliant is a sack full of awesome! I love the idea of an orbital insertion vehicle/tug and a detachable lander/ship.
