I created an SSTO spaceplane, the Z. desjardinii (named after my second-favorite fish, due to it's slight resemblance when looked at in a top-down view), played with it 'till it could make orbit with an ISRU unit aboard, and then constructed a classic-shaped rocket to refuel it. Docking was tricky due to forgetting rear-facing vernors, and forgetting vernors at the top part of the refueler. The spaceplane carries a PocketSub Mk II, the same sub model as the one currently on Laythe. Edit: Some of the pictures in the album are outdated, so I need to go take some fresh new ones. Edit 2: Updated the pictures in the album so all of them show the newest version of the Z. desjardinii, with it's new ISRUs and slightly extra fuel. I also toyed with the missile on the PocketSub Mk II currently landed on Laythe (the same exact sub as in my signature picture). It can be launched from shallow depths or the surface, and has decent range (can fly more than 2 km and hit more than 100 m/s). I forgot to extend the antennae on the submarine and on the missile in the pictures below, sadly.

Let me redo this... 8.6/10 a good and true quote, but nothing else. Just so you know (like last time), my signature picture is of a submarine close to the surface (underwater) on Laythe, with Jool's rim hanging in the sky above in the background.
-
Banned for letting a wayward Jeb travel to Duna instead of the Mun, and then fake a spacewalk on the Mun to mislead the public.
-
8/10 true quote. And by the way, just so whoever responds knows, the picture in my signature is a submarine on Laythe, not an aircraft. Edit: You've been Ninja'd, UnionPacific, by me, so the next person should rate my sig AND his.
-
2.5/10 no Valentina, Bill, and Bob are present in your signature.
-
Banned for having an impossibly high rep-to-posts ratio despite not even showing your full username (the "..." shows you are not-so-discretely preventing us from seeing the rest).

Greetings, Meantorment335!

I once went jetpacking (with a jetpack I made in KSP) there. My kerbals are certain that it is real after that experience. I have also mined asteroids in orbit of what was definitely not a figment of my imagination.

Does the poodle in the video have enough thrust to lift that craft? Happy (it's 3 hours away where I dwell) New Year!

What's happening with ksp 1.1?
LaytheDragon replied to terryammon's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I am certain it is coming Soon™ (not soontm). -
Do something nobody has done before
LaytheDragon replied to quasarrgames's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I can submit the deepest depth on Laythe. 3 meters deeper than the top entry in the Deep Diver Challenge. -
"Hard" isn't that hard, but when I play with everything at 20%, there is no "infinite pool of funds". It requires very well designed ships to bring kerbals home safely with enough science or money for the next breakthrough tech or the next building. Playing with not-so-good parts means that upgrading buildings is an immediate goal along with obtaining more science, so such good contracts take awhile to get to. Luckily, once you can get something to orbit the Mun or Minmus, survey contracts have been made easier so the first ones you get are all above certain altitudes (meaning you can sit in a polar orbit and farm cash until your rep is too high for such contracts). These contracts and rescue contracts give good cash gains once they can be completed, and then you will have your satellite contracts, too. Sometimes, though, just doing a part test contract can be fun, too, though, and the later in the game you get, the more exotic and the better the contracts get (base and station contracts are enjoyable, and hauling an asteroid is a challenge)

Deep Diver Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition!
LaytheDragon replied to Red Dwarf's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Okay. In the meantime, as of today, I have successfully breached the top of the leaderboards by diving down, so enjoy two assemblages of photons. I will post a full album when you are ready (which will provide the proof that I used no hyperedit), and plus, I can go about 20 meters deeper with a bit of roving at the seabed. Here, I have landed the PocketSub Mk II in the Sagen Sea. And here I have settled the PocketSub Mk II on the sea floor, at a very deep section of the Sagen Sea. Edit: You should remove the notice in the OP stating that you won't be managing the challenge anymore until Christmas, once you have the time. -
Kraken Invasion Steering(not to be confused with Kerbal Inventory System): Enter the kraken. Control the kraken. Demolish other people's ships through your various kraken attacks inside the kraken! From the NAN kraken to the gyro kraken, you can fire them all on unsuspecting players in their very own saves! To get this yielding power, all you must do is install this mod and it's dependencies, walk a kerbal up to the dead kraken on Bop, and revive it with defibrillators from the BlatentDefibrillators Armory mod (dependency) to harness the unstoppable power of the space squid known as the kraken. BlatentDefibrillators Armory(not to be confused with BahamatoD's Armory mod): Ever wanted to resurrect Jebediah with infinite power? Thought you saw Bob playing BF4 on his Y-Box in his pod while tweaking a KSP config? Well, we watched a replay of what Bob was doing, and discovered that fitting a KSP config editor tuned to the critters section of KSP's internals to two portable rectangular prisms powered by friction was the answer to resurrection, and it requires only a moment of rectangle rubbing and a small bump of a dead creature! This mod replicates what was seen in Battlefield 4 with those defibrillators, but in KSP! But even better, choose from an armory of defibrillator options, including highlights such the KilometerNecromancer, which does as named after and takes 1 hour to charge, the classic BF4 defibrillator, which is what you'd dream it is, and the 5Revive 5 kerbal reviver, which can bring back 5 kerbals at once, but requires 5 minutes of rubbing. Now you can revive a kerbal! Make Valentina rise from the ashes of her accidental "fall" from a Tylo ravine, and take her off that moon with her moss-covered (on the inside) ship! Use a defibrillator on a mystery goo pod to uncover a new green friend (proving the goo is of organic origins) ! Turn Bop's long dead kraken into a dangerous ship-killing machine to corrupt your save, and send space stations and satellites alike tumbling and exploding into chaos! Or, download the KIS (Kraken Invasion Steering) companion mod, and go from green blood and broken parts in your save, to bloodshed and part shred in a random person's save, but better yet, controlled by YOU! Now with realistic (there are a few exceptions) (relative to Battlefield 4's defibrillators) ranged reviving, so you can bring Bill back from the dead with the throw of some defibrillators from Jebediah, while hanging off a burning rocket in Jool's atmosphere during an aerobrake, without the defibrillators ever even leaving the grasp of your tool-using appendages!

Seems interesting. I just landed a sub on Laythe (with a docking port AND a missile), I could bring another and dock them, before playing a game of target practice...

Deep Diver Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition!
LaytheDragon replied to Red Dwarf's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Red Dwarf appears to be back, so here's my Mini Submarine album. Deepest depth: 1074 meters Fastest speed: Around 15.3 m/s Distance traveled underwater: 85.1 kilometers In the meantime, I am working on another entry with a much deeper depth, though the speed and distance won't exceed that of this entry. -
Insane Asteroids Spawning
LaytheDragon replied to agent 902's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Timewarp at full speed until the asteroids disappear, once Kopernicus is out of your install. If they don't begin to disappear, report back on this thread. -
Insane Asteroids Spawning
LaytheDragon replied to agent 902's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Kopernicus is the problem, with it's new asteroid spawner, I believe. Yesterday, 160 asteroids spawned near my Kerbin just while doing an ion burn to Jool. -
In sandbox, countless aircraft have hit the fuel tanks next to the SPH, but I reverted after each catastrophe. In a more successful flight recently, I snagged a runway light during an out-of-control takeoff before safely flying away (because my biggest struggle with SSTOs is the landing gear design).

[Dead Mod][1.0.5] Saru Planet Pack v0.1
LaytheDragon replied to tygoo7's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Is Saru spaced out from OPM planets? -
The Vector just isn't useful for 1.25 meter things, despite it's size, so it should be compared to 2.5 meter engines instead, which are much more on par.
-
I consider MechJeb as cheating in respect to doing things one can't otherwise do due to lack of skill(it makes it much easier, which is why I daren't try it), but I am okay with (others, not me) using it if they actually could accomplish the same feats done with MechJeb by themselves.

Service Bays SUCK. We want cargo bays!
LaytheDragon replied to Xyphos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I just created a submarine that can fit into a 2.5 meter service bay this week, proving service bays can be used for payloads in addition to radial part shielding. Use moar struts, if the 2.5 meter service bay starts glitching and breaking the craft (I encountered this today only on one (failed) spaceplane meant to carry the previously-mentioned submarine to orbit). In addition, an interstage fairing with a structural part within to mount probes, is useful for longer probes or a cluster of small probes, and can bulge to allow wider probes to be packed. Thus, we don't NEED non-spaceplane cargo bays, and there are definitely mods to give you what you want. If 6S service compartment tubes isn't outdated, it should (I assume) give you what you request. -
[1.8-1.12] TextureReplacer 4.5.3 (8.2.2022)
LaytheDragon replied to shaw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I am using this skybox, and it looks completely and utterly beautiful! One of the best skyboxes available! Notes: This response is highly opinionated
