  1. I will make clear to my professors and counselors the urgency of my situation, and hopefully they will be able to help me make it in time. I have been absolutely serious about this since I was five years old, and it's quite exciting to see that I may be less than ten years away from "When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut". I didn't think I wanted to go all the way to Mars at the time, but what the hell. I need to go all out.
  2. The targeted window is in 2024, and I should graduate from college in 2022. I can make it! Of course, in traditional SpaceX fashion, it's quite likely there will be delays, leaving me plenty of time to be ready for the trip.
  3. If anything I may be the one to get away, as I go off to college next year...Of course I will do my best to make sure that doesn't happen, and I have plenty of time to do it too.
  4. It is quite rare indeed. She's three years below my grade, too. I guess it starts early and stays persistently afterwards. I didn't ask her about that yet. Next time I talk to her I will, though.
  5. Today I met a girl who knows about as much about space as I do. We talked about black holes, interplanetary colonization, the ice moons of the outer solar system, and even ASI and BMIs. That's a pretty rare thing for me, and I'm sure many people here are in a similar situation in that regard.
  6. I suppose you've probably seen Chris Hadfield's music video, but just in case...
  7. I decided to to Iapetus based on a Cassini mosaic, because it's a really pretty moon. I hope you don't mind if I post it here when it's done.
  8. Big, and stylish. And rocket-y. That much I can assure you.
  9. I am writing a theme to the CRS-11 launch. I am quite happy with the countdown and first 16 seconds of flight. I think its hype level is going to leave 2084 and Success in the dust.
  10. I like how I barely even batted an eye that it's still referred to as BFR.
  11. I got my drivers licence today! After a wild goose chase for a document that felt like a "test the Thud engine between 38000 and 38500 m at velocity of 1800 to 1875 m/s near Laythe's south pole" contract... In other news, my theme for the CRS-11 launch is coming along quite well. Another thing I did was register for the fall regional speedcubing competition.
  12. I think I'll draw the line around the point where parachutes stop being able to slow you down in any meaningful way.
  13. Today I played a little organ, and I turned in an essay, and I solved my Square-1 a few times. Once I memorize the Square-1 solution, I'll have to see whether I can make the 0:45 cutoff for the upcoming regional competition.
  14. BREAKING: NIBIRU'S DENSITY MASSIVELY OVERESTIMATED Scientists estimate actual mass to be slightly more than that of a teapot. One theory suggests there is a little bit of tea left...
  15. I once dreamt I was on ISS, and we had lost an Allen wrench. I suggested to my crewmate that we look in the air filter, but it wasn't there. Problem solving in space, though!
  16. For an explanation of floats (not in KSP but it's the same principle): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hdFG2GcNuA
  17. Welcome to the forums! This is a perfectly normal thread. There is nothing wrong here.
  18. 8 years Elon time, really. But the likelihood of me getting into the space industry while still in college, and a mission being available right away are slim. Of course, the odds of some 5 year old sticking with his dream and getting there are also slim, but that hasn't stopped me all these years later, and it won't stop me in the years to come! That puts us (presumably) right in the range of getting to go to Mars, or at least the Moon. I hope I can get the opportunity to visit both.
  19. Task Manager: "I'm sorry, Steve. I'm afraid I can't do that." Nah, it just changes which problems we have.
