But seriously, I can't wait to fly into space in these xD

My god, it's full of stars! A beautifully clear night here, I'm hoping the aurora will spread down to where I can see them.

It's a giant pipe cleaner, to scrub the crust off all those little holes. (Just kidding, I have no idea what that does) Maybe it's just to keep the fin in the deployed position while it's horizontal.

Those are some big potatoes...

I imagine a large asteroid falling into the atmosphere would push the air around it so much that it actually puts a hole in the hurricane like a giant bullet before even doing its full damage. (Which includes Interstellar-reminiscent tsunamis at least as bad as the hurricane would have been?) The note about cutting the energy to the hurricane by bringing up cold water is a good one.

I'm keeping my mid latitude, north facing bedroom window shade open tonight! Although as usual per these storms it's kind of cloudy.
-
You might be able to dissipate the hurricane by redirecting an asteroid into it.

Too bad I have class... ...in a computer lab! And we might not be doing much at the time of launch?

Realistic look at Supervolcano Yellowstone
cubinator replied to Volcanistical's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Yellowstone erupt roughly every hundred thousand years? And if humans have been around for two million years that means we've survived about 19 eruptions so far, and it did not cause a 99% death rate. My guess is that it would not kill everybody on Earth, but would cause a global cooling event that would make food more scarce. We would likely have about a hundred years notice before the eruption proper.- 33 replies

I'm almost pitch perfect for songs in very familiar with. Today I was almost sure Pogo Sticks started on an A, but it turned out to be a D. I was in pretty much the right key though. -
What sort of mechanism holds the strap-ons in place and stages them? I know SpaceX is proud of their non-explosive staging on F9, so I wonder what they will do on FH. Are there other rockets that use non-explosive staging for strap-on boosters?
-
I'm thinking an original piece, composed specifically for the FH launch.

Ooh look, moderators have green names on mobile now. -
Yeah, I figured there was nothing. Every launch is a little different, so it's hard to write music to it in advance.
-
Maybe. It's like a big remnant of a storm.

I've got some weird clouds up here. Being north of Texas, I think this is what's left of Harvey.

First day of school for me. Getting to know my calculus teacher, telling him about my speedcubing I told him "I average 16 seconds, 17 in this temperature" because the room was really cold. He said "I think we're going to have a good year." -
So is there a timeline anywhere of major events in the first Falcon Heavy launch, and when in flight exactly they will happen? I'm guessing probably not, but just in case if it does exist I'd like to take a look at it.

That's a little better...

That thing is hitting just about as much land as it could possibly hit from there.
