  1. Hmmm steel isn't very helpful as far as mass is concerned. An alloy of aluminium is probably going to be better. Also, if this is an unmanned mission, why not make it smaller and unpressurized? Would help with the mass issue. If you do make it pressurized, the internal pressure might help with keeping it rigid, like with (IIRC) the Atlas rockets. Also might need to think about a heating system for the electronics. Space is cold. Electronics do not like cold. Also a name for the craft (some idea) - Jeb's Dare 1? This might be a more materials problem rather than structure. Kevlar rope might do. Or a drogue chute so that sudden violent jerking of the vehicle doesn't rip the parachute.
  2. And here we go! Edit: (╯ರ ~ ರ)╯︵ ┻━┻ i timewarped into the moon...... and everything was going so well..... I think I'll restart with a different thing. And only ONE kerbal this time...
  3. Hmm. I wouldn't mind helping you. I would need to take a look personally, but from past experience, the craft and the AI settings are superfinicky. Also - you sure it has ammo? In other news.... released some late-ish christmas video and also did the safe cracking thing. Less by proper "cracking" and more by pure brute forcing the hinge to become nonexistent.
  4. A wild video appears. Not terribly happy, but its only my second try. Could have been a lot worse guess. I could in theory have made it more tree-like, but it would have ballooned the part count past the already unreasonable 780ish parts. Which was by itself super laggy. Also in theory could burn the star indefinitely - has an ISRU system inside for infinite fuel.
  5. Nah. Controlled SRB burns at the structural fuselage pieces that have the hinge. If the hinge fails, can't lock the safe. Unless its one of those that has a locking mechanism that holds the door independent of the hinge...... I might also take a shot with a tank though. EDIT: Safe is cracked! Link to album if wanted https://imgur.com/a/D3VUp For your answers - Maybe, No, No, I blew it apart with SRBs. How much cheating is that?
  6. Hmm. I have two ideas I want to try - the old timey way and the quick way.....
  7. Actively? No. Used to? Yes. TUBM has a globe in their house.
  8. Oh hai. I was asleep too... @KerBlitz Kerman?
  9. Belated Seasons Greetings! Oh, and giant mothership one life grand tour preparations.
  10. Heinous double post, but by land @Ultimate Steve, do we mean "set foot" or "get a kerbal in a capsule on the body"?
  11. That gets the most points right? Why wouldn't I! Also, thanks!
  12. Still working on it! I've currently finished the Laythe, Tylo, Duna, and Airless body landers. I'm mostly worried about the laythe one, cause its a complete guess. I might change it for a traditional rocket rather than a space plane. The airless body landers are to be ion powered with like 7 engines or so with ~5000 m/s of dV. Fairly confident about those, but might as well make some rescue landers thinking about it... and strap on 2 to the thing. Tylo is a couple big fuel tanks and terriers. I've never done an eve lander/ return vehicle, so I'm also worried about that thing. Moho... probably another dedicated chemical lander, although I could probably get away with an ion powered one (need to look at the TWR). The hope is I can also find an asteroid to refuel at Dres or so. There's no way I'm gonna land the mothership. An ore mining craft may be needed (I've already got isru). And strap on relay sats for any probes I'm controlling. See how it quickly gets very big? I'm very.... cautious about this, so engineering will proceed for a while. Also cause when piloting, I don't do much gravity assist magic.
  13. Looking at the two things currently posted, I think I'm thinking too big.... (I'm talking a craft the size of the SPH with 3 rhinos and 2 poodles.)
  14. No. I won cause of the theoretical improbability of a dolphin growing a a 3rd flipper multiplied by the inverse probability of his thread being inhabited by a mod is equal to the second integral of the letter 'q' =, which, as everyone knows, is proportional to the framerate of the user avatar (with a static image being considered infinite) times the number of beluga whales currently within the longitudes of 16 W and 196 E. With an standard deviation of 5 sigmas, the answer (solving for ASCII_113) to this is 42n(qzgy), with q, z, g, and y being equal to the current number of porpoises on earth, the amount of llamas on mars, the 5th integral of the square root of the population of Latvia, and the current number of living dictators over the number of American Monarch butterflies, respectively. See? I won. Its simple math!
  15. No. I don't like these ping-a-thons. Seriously, shotgunning pings is kinda odd. Can we get a @Deddly?
  16. You must be around my age, living in the luxury of the internet. I honestly can't imagine what I would do without it. Honestly though, I don't mind not having internet for a period of time.... as long as I have something else to do. What's this?
  17. Im late to the party, but that was a tremendous shotgun Is that even allowed?
  18. And if our computers had to simulate it, if they aren't already screaming and trying to go across our mobos in a hot wet mess from our 1000+ part craft, they will definitely do that now.
  19. Thats a really nice video. And mission. I think you could lose also a couple parachutes to help with the minor dV shortage.
  20. Started work on some more craft - a giant Grand Tourer for UltimateSteve's challenge and a high capacity shuttle. Also continued to work on the Christmas challenge, by docking the star to the tree! No pics though.. sorry. Honestly though, should also think about polishing off some and then releasing them onto the world. Like that bugatti.
  21. Apparently, its getting down to 13 Degree F here (21 at warmest). No idea what that is normal measurements, but my mother described it as "too cold". The rest of my family said it was "fine". Background history - mother and father come from completely different environments (tropics vs bit north of germany) and sister and I grew up where we currently live. And refuse to admit we get cold, xcept when convenient, as in to go inside after raking the leaves for a little while.
  22. One question @Ultimate Steve - Is the points for landing kerbals cumulative? Or is the feat of landing one kerbal the same as landing 20 in terms of points?
