Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
Ultimate Steve replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I'm not going to say what I just built for this story, but I will say: That moment when the refueler is bigger than the actual ship. -
You could also use KAS/KIS, unless you are dead set on being stock. Beware though: before editing the persistence file is dangerous. If you can, avoid it, but if you must, make lots of backups first. Also, if you plan on completely rebuilding it, I added some more tips to my above post, if you refresh.

Okay. First of all, Kerbal Space Program has its limits, and that space station must be hundreds of parts. I am sorry to say this, but it has gotten a bit too big. My biggest rocket ever was something around 750 parts. It had a time dilation of 8 to 1. The point is, use less parts. The modules I see are ten times as complicated as they need to be. So, when building huge things, try to make each module minimalist. Use only what you need. You don't need twenty ladders and 8 rcs tanks on each module. That being said, I applaud your determination at building something that huge! Tips for optimizing part count: Use a stack battery instead of a lot of radial ones Use a stack RCS tank instead of lots of radial ones Put stuff like RCS ports and extra SAS units on decouplers, so you can jettison them and delete them from the tracking station. You don't need external ladders. If you do need them, use deployable ones. Those hub modules don't need to be that complex either. Unless you are set on that design. Build your stations above 250Km. This reduces lag. I hope I helped!

Yeah. People are a bit worried about the "stereotypical" console players, as well as the fact that many "stereotypical" console payers would find some bugs that they would consider "unacceptable" and that they would wreck the game's reputation. Perople are also worried about the controllability of the game, the lack of mods, and the steep learning wall that KSP has. However, even if the console release does fail, worst case scenario is that Squad will not have enough money to continue developing KSP and then about 50,000 people (1/3 of the forum) will buy another copy of KSP to finance future development. That adds up to 2 million dollars, which should be enough to continue development. If the worst case scenario is worse, and Squad has to shut down and nobody finances them, then they will probably release the source code then. That being said, the best case scenario is that the majority of console players will experience few-to-none bugs and will spread the world and KSP becomes a world wide phenomenon netting hundreds of millions of dollars. What I think will happen is that the console release will come out, and it will do allright. Squad will at least break even, and the KSP playerbase will grow by a bit. Half of the players will like the game and learn rocket science, and the other half will be "stereotypical" console players and run into bugs and not like the game anyway. So, nothing changes. Half say the game is good, half say bad, it cancels out. Life continues. The above is strictly my opinion. Somehow, it will work out. Even if the console release fails, it has too big of a serious playerbase for the PC version to fail.

3 Years "Away" from KSP: Any Suggestions?
Ultimate Steve replied to Diche Bach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Okay, engaging list mode: Assuming you were away 3 years, that puts us somewhere around 0.20. Command seats Lots of new parts Flag planting Career & science modes (do science, complete contracts, earn money and science to unlock new parts, rockets cost money, upgrade buildings, etc.) Biomes (basically only useful in career mode) Subassemblies Tweakables (Adjust stuff in the VAB/SPH) A hybrid Jet and Rocket engine (the RAPIER) Asteroids size 3 parts Completely new and retextured spaceplane parts You can blow up buildings now New explosion effects Transfer crew without EVA Kerbals can be Engineer/Scientist/Pilot and have experience points in Career mode Female Kerbals Fairings Mining (YESSSSSS!) Re-entry heat and heat shields and radiators (this is a big one) Parts can sort of sink now And the big one: The game is now 64 bit! No new planets, though. And the forum has been updated. And they replaced the old mod site. And there is like fifty other mod sites now. -
Stock Tank Track (belt drive) development
Ultimate Steve replied to Majorjim!'s topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Awesome! Not many people can say they've done something the first in KSP. Congrats to both of you! Just one question, though. How would steering work?- 48 replies

Go minimalist. Orbital payload should be Kerbals in seats, a probe core, a reaction wheel, and minimal batteries. As well as maybe a solar panel and the last stage. The last stage should be something like a flt-200 with a 0.625m engine (depending on your payload). Then, if you have a 1.25m rocket, add asparagused aerospikes or asparagused vectors underneath. If it is a 0.625 meter rocket, you won't need as many asparagus stacks. If it is a 2.5m final stage, uh, asparagused orange tank vectors?!?!?!? I don't have much experience in that field, so...

super lightweight 6 Ton Eve lander

Now THAT is a new world record! Besides that glitch-ladder-thingy. Great job! How long did it take to fly the propeller part? -
Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
Ultimate Steve replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
The question of the day! And we will find out soon. As soon as I do about ten bajillion other things to set up for that moment Warning: Exploding spaceships. (This NEEDS to be an actual street sign in Russia somewhere. No offence to the Russians.) I don't want to steal too much from Plan Kappa... I do have a general idea where the story will be going, though. Also, when there is another computer across the room playing a laggy roblox game and an xbox 2 rooms away connected to the internet, imgur tends to upload VERY slowly and then freeze and not load for fifteen minutes. Only 25 more screenshots to go! -
Me as well. I am a bit too lazy to go back and check how many, but this must have taken you LOTS of launches. I'm struggling to just do four without burning out. I applaud your ambitiousness!

The Whole Kercake Series!
Ultimate Steve replied to Dogenutt's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Great rockets! I remember my first Mun lander... WAAAAAAAY overbuilt. Just a tip here, you are overbuilding quite a bit, but if you are comfortable using huge rockets like that, then that's perfectly fine. But I will echo @The Optimist and say that you really don't need to type in size 36. Also directed at @The Optimist Try snipping big quotes in the future (although I realize this one was to make a big point). Great job! -
I've got to take KSP to a movie theater sometime. Hook it up to their beastly sound system In all seriousness, WAIT... Do the movie theater thing, and play in VR from the perspective of a Kerbal 3 feet from the launch pad. In all seriousness, This may be possibly the best way to play KSP. And the most annoying. I do find that I never use the full volume on computers, though. I only really need, like, six percent with headphones. That implies that computers were made for this

Mission Reports - any suggestions?
Ultimate Steve replied to DaMachinator's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
1. Me neither. Yet I do it anyways. 2. I take lots of night shots. I don't know why, but most of them are fairly visible. I think. 3. Normally I just go with it, and maybe re-write earlier posts if I need to (I haven't done that yet). 4. Ships, or Kerbals? If it is ships, then abstract nouns are your friend, especially if you make a super epic ship.
