What is the most badass thing you have done in KSP?
Ultimate Steve replied to RenegadeRad's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A few more: 1. I had an old ringstation sitting in a 250km orbit. I wanted to get rid of it. So, I send up an SSTO to return the Kerbals. I get to the station. There is one more Kerbal than there is seats. So what do I do? I stuff him into the cargo bay. I re-entered with heating on. He lived to tell the tale. 2. I don't remember the specifics of the mission, but I was piloting mostly by map view. I was sending a station to one of Kerbin's moons. I get into orbit. Then I come out of map mode. I'm orbiting the wrong moon. And I had enough fuel to get to the other moon and complete the mission. 3. In my HTT Career mode playthrough, I had a contract for a rescue mission. Before I had sent a Kerbal to orbit. In my mind, the scenario I devised is that she only had an hors worth of oxygen left. So the engineers redesigned the suborbital tourist plane into a vehicle that was orbit capable and rescued her with 3 minutes to spare. (It was a plane on top of a solid booster or two. That had failed at even suborbital at least 3 times in its 5 flight lifespan.) -
1. I have a huge disaster (6 Kerbals being killed in an SSTO because of the runway light) 2. Something self-imposed and boring (Mun Base Crew rotation) 3. I discover a new mod/tech tree that makes career interesting (Historical Tech Tree, and why I haven't updated my mission report in a while) 4. IRL stuff (A 2 week trip to South Dakota. When I got back, I completely forgot anything that had been going on in my save. Another reason for the lack of updates on my mission report) 5. Finishing the tech tree (In my HTT save, I'm nowhere near the end and I'm sending Kerbals to Duna! Without LV-N's!)

This whole thing is an aluminum rocket powered by steampunk watermelons.

A mission to reach 1% of the Speed Of Light
Ultimate Steve replied to Rockhem's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Hello, @USNavyJHarris! Welcome to the forums! Thank you for contributing this information to this thread. However, I would like to point out that this thread is from 2013. Posting in an old thread (Necroposting) is generally frowned upon here, but not necessarily forbidden. Just for future reference. Welcome! -
This thread is nearly two years old, but it is still relevant to a certain extent. I made a giant Ion Plane that flew Jeb to 18 KM. EDIT: Hey, I made it to 400 rep!

Everything stated above. One more point: After the update drops, every Kerbal in every obscure planetary station in every save file of every user would die simultaneously due to lack of supplies and no way to get them to them. Everybody's saves would break.

Two new game modes
Ultimate Steve replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
There is also an alt+f12 option (iirc) to unlock all of the tech tree nodes. -
I've got Intel drivers on my computer and no PS4. Those quadrillions of new worlds are unfortunately unavailable to me. It looks awesome, though.

Actually, do everything else before the sun landing so you have to carry the sun lander with you. That would be a bit... difficult.

Do you have any abandoned vehicles?
Ultimate Steve replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, according to some Delta V maps you can theoretically get into a highly elliptical Kerbin Orbit with as little as 110m/s of Dv. Getting the encounter would be the difficult part. -
That british accent, though. If only I had chrome. Looks amazing, though

Ultimate Steve replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A Jool 5 mission is a mission in which you attempt to visit all 5 moons of Jool. The term was first coined when somebody made the Ultimate Jool Five Challenge. I did not complete the challenge at all. If I recall correctly, all of the ships need to be attached to one ship. I used a flotilla. And my Vall lander was out of fuel, so no Vall landing. It is currently docked with the Vall abandoned mothership Space Station. -
Do you have any abandoned vehicles?
Ultimate Steve replied to nascarlaser1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've got a useless station in career mode somewhere that I abandoned for lack of available crew. In that same save I've got an asteroid station with a huge crew transfer ship attached to it. It's currently abandoned, I got disinterested in that save before I could use it more than once. I've also got my Jool 5 Mothership orbiting Vall. The crew left for Kerbin in the more efficient Jool tug. Which ran out of fuel anyway. So now I have an abandoned Vall Space Station. In a retrograde orbit. Super Useful. -
Have F1 / F2 key bindings changed?
Ultimate Steve replied to Iam aspaceman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I use Win10 also. Try using fn+f1 or fn+f2. It works for me. Sreiously, though. When I first upgraded to that computer none of the f keys worked forcing me into a completely hardcore (no quickloads) career. Fortunately, a friend helped me. -
Engineering Landing Gear

Just don't blow up the pad in career, though. Some landers can get pretty huge.- 14 replies

So! Soon (ish) we may be headed toward Mars. And soon after that (ish) there may very well be a civilian population living on Mars. Provided they are there long enough, they would get pretty bored. Say you want to browse the KSP forums on Mars. Type in the homepage address. Wait 40 minutes. Click "Science and Spaceflight." Wait 40 minutes. Click this thread. Wait 40 minutes. Etcetera. So, Mars at one point would most likely need its own internet. What would this sort of internet look like? How would it be different from Earth's internet? And when would this internet be made? When 1,000 people are on Mars? 100,000? 1 million? If you could start fresh with the internet, what would you do? Discuss. Also, if starting topics count as posts, then this is my 400th post.

Hey, Max? Are you still there? You didn't like, die or anything?

Do you want to do something nobody has ever done before? If yes: If no, make a music video. vvv Shameless Plug vvv

Landing a giant (4 large mk3 fuselages long) mothership on Moho. Then getting it back to orbit. Then sending a rescue mission. Then sending them to Eve (although that hasn't happened yet). Or rescuing two kerbals stranded in solar orbit during my Eve fleet mission. (Don't ask, I accidentally jettisoned them) Or maybe it was setting foot on laythe. Or landing a giant mothership not designed for landing from space. Or, most likely, it will be something in the future. Something involving dramatic music, The Final Countdown, several large ships, Eve ascent (Or dare I say, Jool ascent?) lots of explosions, and an epic survival story. I can't wait for that day, and I hope that everyone has some sort of moment like that.

What is the most badass thing you have done in KSP?
Ultimate Steve replied to RenegadeRad's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hmm. I read the title with a few awesome things in mind, but looking at the above posters nothing I've done compares to them. Especially Jool Ascent (although I sort of have to do Jool Ascent in the future because in my mission report one of the characters needs to get a surface sample from Jool, but I'm really getting off topic here.) Anyway. 4 things. 1. the theme from a space odyssey was playing in the background and I was landing my shuttle. But I had flown into the wrong continent. And the landing gear had exploded. It crashed perfectly to the music, including the bail out, stand up, realizing I didn't need to bail out, and planting a flag. 2. Doing a Mun Science Spam mission, and sending my little lander to the north pole. And running out of fuel on the way back. And landing the Kerbal safely 25km from a conveniently placed Mun Base. And sending a utility drone with a Klaw only designed to complete a contract (I literally needed 100 more LF on the base) to go get her and land her safely next to the base. 3. Having the front end of my Mk3 Minmus Cargo SSTO that never really worked explode during re-entry. And then landing the back part. 4. The only one I have pics of. Launching this: (For more info, read chapter 16 of my mission report) And not reaching orbit: And then having the nuclear engines explode on re-entry: And then igniting the 0.2 TWR VTOL engines, opening the cargo bays, dumping most of the fuel, Attempting to glide, And landing it. Everyone on board survived, and I added some more fuel to it and launched it to Eeloo. It will currently arrive in four years. I swear, in all my time playing this game I've never felt so awesome.
