  1. Best thing to do is play with a virtual machine, try installing something and messing with it, see if you can break it and then try fixing it again Ubuntu is a good place to start for a Linux beginner, and installing software is not too hard as there's a built-in software store, though Ubuntu is over the top for a KSP live cd. The Xubuntu guys recently released Xubuntu Core, which is just the desktop and no programs, it's smaller, light on resources and could be loaded with only what KSP needs. There's tons of resources online to help with almost any issue you might run into, usually a google search for whatever you need will turn something up
  2. KSP isn't aimed at children that young, but you might want to check out Simple Rockets, it's still not really intended for 3 year olds but may be a bit easier for them. But honestly, games aimed at children that young tend to be extremely simple, and not really much fun for anyone older. Interestingly, the original KSP was also 2D.
  3. That's enough of the pedantry over the words accelerate and decelerate, this thread is about the LDSD, not word definitions or origin.
  4. Modkey+F5, helps a lot, and modkey+F9 to load
  5. Should be possible but you'd have to roll your own custom distro with the proprietary drivers and a script to detect your card. Another option would be to install to a flash drive and update it with the gfx driver. Pendrivelinux has a lot of info on setting up Linux on a USB stick, and Ubuntugeek has this article on making a custom distro.
  6. It's not the gauges, it never was, it's the PPFX edge highlighter from the Unity3D asset store. That shader only works when the Unity/KSP built-in anti-aliasing is enabled, if it's off so will PPFX, and you won't have the memory leak.
  7. Let's not argue semantics please, stay on topic of the launch
  8. There is an abnormal load in 1.0.2 due to the PPFX edge highlighting, this should be fixed for 1.0.3 though, but until then try disabling it.
  9. Yep, I have not changed much from the defaults by the way, KSP does get slow when the hair shader is active (re-entry heat effect) but that's about it.
  10. The *buntu's don't make an xorg.conf anymore and I have not made my own, settings.cfg added to post above.
  11. Still worth checking the tracker though, and reporting it. I happen to have a copy of .20 where flags were introduced, take a look.
  12. Again, it's not an argument, it's the fact that the engine was intended for certain things and not others, no amount of nay-saying is going to change that.
  13. I'd answer but your post is hidden. Just kidding, unfortunately I don't see any options to change this in the admin panel, it looks to be default vBulletin behaviour, it probably needs a plugin to change it.
  14. Oh right, sorry forgot, here's what I see with your flag and the Kerbin flag. It probably shouldn't do that, and should just show vessel stats just like a Kerbal or a craft.
  15. Not an argument at all, but plain fact, as NovaSilisko designed the part and wrote the config if he says it was intended for a certain use then that is what it was intended for, you don't need any in-game validation when a developer* tells you that is precisely how it was intended to be. * ex dev but still a KSP dev.
  16. Okay, with your save there's only one flag, and when I mouse over it I get this:
  17. Hmm I thought I'd added that, I have it working here, I have a rule for both KSP.x86 and KSP.x86_64, and for both rules I have set GLFSAA true.
  18. Of course, movies and TV shows don't update, you won't find Friends s4e7 1.1 patch for example. But yeah, NOT GAMES.
  19. Yeah it's a new thing with the 1.0 release, and so far it's been a bit of a problem, Amazon doesn't handle updates, at all, no patches, nothing, you're expected to get any updates from the developer. But of course, Squad doesn't provide patches in the usual way. Amazon is fine if you want a toaster, but for games and movies? Nah.
  20. Ahh okay, there's a few stickied support threads with info, but really what we need are your KSP.log from the game folder, output_log from KSPData and dxdiag log. You can put the contents of these on hastebin.com, pastebin.com, or upload them to dropbox, mega, mediafire or similar sites. Then post the URLs here, if you need to post images you can use imgur.com
  21. The Unity3D anti-aliasing is broken on Linux, sorry, and only fast approx anti-aliasing seems to work, you can enable this per-program by making a profile and setting GLFSAA to True. It won't be great, it's only equivalent to 2x AA, but it's better than nothing.
  22. Just so you guys know, discussions on the units used for measurement always result in argument and have to be closed, it's worse than politics, seriously. Squad changed to kelvin for 1.0 and are not likely to change again, from the readme: I honestly don't think this suggestion will be taken on-board, so it may be best to just grin and bare it, and keep the calculator close by.
  23. Yes, and airbrakes can help as they produce a lot of drag, if they are on top of your craft the drag can help keep your nose up. If I'm too high I'll sometimes roll inverted and pull up, so Kerbin is "above" me, this helps push me lower into the atmosphere so I lose speed more quickly.
