Rocket: Up going fire tower.
-
Something to bare in mind is this, a lot of this stuff takes time and Squad can only do so much, they are laying the groundwork so that can add stuff later, missions for example, and so modders can build on it with parts and plugins. Devving takes time

Identifying docking nodes?
sal_vager replied to ThomsenX's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Docking ports are fuel crossfeed capable, and this can be disabled. You can use this to your advantage by disabling crossfeed on the ports you wish to remove, they will then be easier to find in the persistence file -
You can never have too many boosters

3-Man Command Pod: Why?
sal_vager replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think what Dirt_Merchant means in his own way is that the pod, like most other parts in KSP, may not be the best part for every use on paper but that's not really the point. Many players will use parts in interesting ways to make cool craft, not because they are after efficiency or performance, an example would be the use of structural panels to cover parts of a rocket, there's no benefit aerodynamically and they just add extra mass, yet players still do it. Similarly, the Mk1-2 may be used as a regular pod, or may be put to other uses as a player sees fit, even though other options might be "better". So the answer to the question of "why" can best be described as "why not?", yes it is heavy, so factor that into your designs, and don't forget to have fun -
3-Man Command Pod: Why?

It looks the part, it's great for Apollo service modules for example -

What traits of humanity are you proud of?
sal_vager replied to Drunkrobot's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If you don't like the question you don't have to post, please refrain from spoiling the fun for others. -
What traits of humanity are you proud of?
sal_vager replied to Drunkrobot's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You're badly off-topic and you are derailing the thread MBobrik, we are not discussing any supposed future intelligent life here, what if anything about humankind are you proud of? -

We can't know, but that is not the question -
What traits of humanity are you proud of?
sal_vager replied to Drunkrobot's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We are +1 to diplomacy But seriously, our inventiveness, we solve problems in so many ways, anything from making tools for the task at hand, to creating written languages so knowledge can be preserved. -

luisair, Simon Ross pointed out what he deems to be a trait of humanity that he is most proud, as per the thread title. Please don't tell him he doesn't know his own mind -
Many drivers are in the repositories so you may find things "just work", also don't worry about desktop environments too much, if you don't like one you can install another Personally I like the Xfce desktop, you are free to use what you like, that is one of the great things about Linux as a whole, you can tailor it to your preferences.

More fuel in tanks
sal_vager replied to ravener's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Real fuel tanks have separate compartments for fuel and oxidiser, these cannot hold their opposite, so removing the oxidiser won't allow you to just add more fuel. -
Going to have to redo mine... I tried to save mass, would have been okay on the flats :/

We have some pretty old players here by the way, some in their 60's, a few even older. KSP isn't really aimed at any one age group or demographic, Felipe got the chance to make the game he wanted to play, it just happens to also appeal to the rocket scientist in all of us

Too much armchair moderation in Suggestions and Development
sal_vager replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in Kerbal Network
It's called backseat moderation and it's frowned upon, there's a perfectly good report feature they can use. The moderation team is going to have to start clamping down on this, though it's something I hoped to avoid, one idea I had was to have a megathread for each major (already suggested) suggestion, that way people can have their say and it'll be more visible. -
Too much armchair moderation in Suggestions and Development
sal_vager replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in Kerbal Network
People get really fed up of seeing suggestions that have been brought up many hundreds of times before (multiplayer, I'm looking at you) the list of what not to suggest has been renamed the Already Suggested List, in the hope that players will see that they are not the first person ever to think of such n such. I don't know what else could be done other than a popup for all posters to the suggestions forum with a list of what's already been suggested, though most would click through it. It's getting near to the point where we'll have to go round to peoples homes with foam cluebats, though airplaine ticket prices (currently) prevent this -
Biased view ahead! But seriously, I think I've played KSP more then even Morrowind, it's definitely been worth the money paid, with or without addons (whitemonkey pack how I miss you!) As for the reputation? Well, what else is there that's like KSP? I mean really? Sure there's Orbiter but that's a full-on simulator, KSP is accessible!. It's rep is fine, sure things could be better, but it's not finished, but for an "early access" game KSP is playable, relatively bug-free and I for one have had a blast playing it

The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
There's no real list as far as I know, though all addons that work in 0.23 for Windows should also work fully in Linux, 32 or 64bit. Unity uses a slightly modified version of the Mono runtime for the plugins on all three OS's, so they should all be fine. Regular parts should also work with no changes -
Extending everything at once
sal_vager replied to Macko939's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You could see if this still works
