Fuel burn rate question
sal_vager replied to Epic DaVinci's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Your first guess is right Epic DaVinci, at 50% throttle you use 50% fuel -
Here's an idea, two tugs, one for the front and one for the back. Both have RCS, fuel and engines (for easy forwards/backwards thrust, use an action group) and they can dock to each other when not working a payload. You'd have to get into position and undock the one on the front so the payload can be docked though, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah attachments don't work properly anyway, so I recommend you use Imgur As for engines in a cross? Try fitting 4 of those radial attachment points to the bottom and an engine on each plus one in the middle, like this:

Can't get Rat Mark 4 to connect to Drop Pod
sal_vager replied to nlosee18's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Doesn't it have it's own specific decoupler? And I think it only works one way up. -
Protip, you can use any radial attached part as a heat sink, try it on SRB's The only issue is with the Jumbo-64, it's so big that heat cannot reach other parts (it's a bug), but you can fix that by putting something else between the tank and the engine, people use the smaller tanks or cubic struts for this

What percent throttle do you use on take off?
sal_vager replied to skendzie's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's not engine efficiency, it's atmospheric drag, basically you don't want to push so hard that you end up just wasting fuel. Depending on your design you may find you get more out of your rocket if you throttle back after hitting 100m/s (rockets are inefficient at low speeds) Best way to see this is to fly straight up at full throttle in a small rocket, then try again and throttle back, you will get higher before running out of fuel if you keep your acceleration under control -
The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Don't worry about that stibbons, I'm fairly sure you can't even fit an SGI card in an Acer Laptop, not without some serious case modifications at least But yeah, it's indicative of a driver issue, most likely Knight has an Intel card, and while good for videos and spreadsheets they are not the best for gaming nor for KSP. -
The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
KnightKiller, there is a known bug with the ship construction tutorial, the editor works fine everywhere else though, and as Ruedii says you need the keyboard controls as the buttons in the cockpits are just for show except for the draggable throttle. Your graphics adapter is detected as being from SGI, Unity3D is only really compatible with Nvidia, AMD and Intel cards, so if you have one of these you may want to check your drivers, Unity on;y really works well with the proprietary drivers, not the open source ones. As for the two executables, the 64bit version should be more tolerant of large numbers of addons, but you won't see a speed increase. KSP does work on 12.10, but we need to figure out why it is not working for you, you might be subject to the localisation issue, and should try starting KSP with "LC_ALL=C ./KSP.x86", and also deleting your settings.cfg Ruedii, Unity does support a basic level of multithreading but not on processes such as the physics, which KSP uses a lot, so that's why one core is being used nearly exclusively, it's not something Squad have set and we have to wait for Unity to add it before it becomes available to Squad. -
VAB Part fine tuning
sal_vager replied to Monkeystador's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi Monkeystador, just hold the shift key then press W A S D Q E -
Hi Claytsuk Yeah as Vanamonde says, if you have a 1km separation just point at the target and set a target relative speed of a few m/s, you'll close the gap easily enough. Don't forget to actually target the other craft and if your speed readout doesn't automatically change to target mode just click on it a few times When you are really close, lower your relative speed to 0 to give yourself time to work out what you will do for the actual docking :)D

Welcome back Rhyunix Mission Reports will be restored at some point, as will Rocket Builders and all the other missing forum areas, and I can't wait
-
Hi Kerbface, congrats on your satellite The solar panels should open as long as your probe has power, so make sure you have enough batteries to last until you open them or add one of those ox-stat panels as a backup. Have fun making satellites and fly safe
-
Hello to you too mctavish4 Have fun on the forums and fly safe

resurrect "Rocket Builders" subforum?
sal_vager replied to segaprophet's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Maybe we can convince Damion to add craft specific tags then? -
Hiya Cpt Cornelius, and welcome I hope you have fun here, fly safe!
-
Welcome to the community Bowak Congrats on your docking, that's a good skill to have, and don't forget to show us your own station design when it's done Have fun designing and fly safe!
-
Welcome to the community Macros Yeah that's a new player mistake, easily made as there's no "dock this side" info in the game, those ports really need some kind of indicator on them! Looks like you will need to send up a new station, oh well, it's launch practice
-
Welcome to the community MAiki How about you post some "under construction" pics for us?
-
Welcome to the community Andy KSP will just get better and better as time passes, coming "soon" is career mode
