F-4 Phantom II
eagle92lightning replied to AVeryNiceSpacePenguin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Question. Are you using the canards on the wing tips for roll? And also I can't tell if you have spoilerons on not, either way it looks very good! -
I was looking at this once again today and realized that by looking at the stage diameter compared to the 5m fairing.

Small Falcon 9 Challenge
eagle92lightning replied to Human Person's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
If you would have read all of my posts, that is partially correct, SpaceX has even said that they only have 1 lit at the moment of touchdown. Yes they have landed them with all three lit and the majority of the time they only light the center one. -
Hey, I am going to be doing a challenge and will be using this mod, I have done some research but I still can't find what engine the Atlas V 400 series has on the second stage. If anyone knows feel free to let me know!

OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return

As I am sure you already know... WE HAVE TOUCHDOWN! -
Ladies and Gentlemen WE HAVE CONFIRMED TOUCHDOWN!
-
That's what I mean, it's basically impossible not with a methalox engine, yeah it has lower temperature than say hydrolox but that vaccum nozzle has to have a thinner wall than a sea level nozzle and if the sea level is lit at an underexpanded state, the exhaust gasses will tear the vaccum nozzle to shreds, it isn't a very good situation.
-
True, but it comes down to one thing... You would have to fit a vaccum engine and several sea level engines in a 9m diameter rocket, good luck not having the vaccum overheating when those sea level engines are firing. See above.

Small Falcon 9 Challenge
eagle92lightning replied to Human Person's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
No, for the entry burn the center engine stays lit and the outer eight cut on and off in pairs in of two. And this is a droneship landing burn (the higher velocity of the two landings) as seen from the bottom of the Falcon 9. This is what a three engine landing burn looks like, compare the diameters. -
Small Falcon 9 Challenge

The IRL Falcon 9 usually uses only 1 Merlin 1C or Merlin 1D. The three engine technique is not fully developed yet. -

OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return
eagle92lightning replied to IonStorm's topic in Science & Spaceflight
My one problem will be inexperience. I have only landed on the Mun once, and I used MechJeb. -

I might do this just for the fun of it using SSTU, build an actually Atlas V 411, and execute the mission! -
That would most likely be Block 1B's or Block II's both of which have been indefinitely suspended.

1981 was when the Saturn MLV would have reached Mars, if Nixon hadn't chose the shuttle instead.

Planning on building a Jupiter DIRECT style launcher, just 1 question. Where is the shuttle piping at?
