Airplane Burnout?
MiffedStarfish replied to ImGr8M8's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Welcome to the forums! I think this should be in gameplay questions, not suggestions. Anyway, there are a few causes for this, but I'll first tell you how to get an idea of the problem. If you right click on the engine while you attempt to launch, the menu will tell you thrust, status and other things. Status is the important one, when it's running it should say "nominal", but when it flames out it should say something "flameout: Liquid fuel or intake air deprived". (one or the other) So you can easily tell what problem you're facing. There are a few causes for burnout: 1. Either your plane has very little fuel, or your plane has enough fuel but most of it is unusable because of fuel routing. You can check this by clicking the gear in the bottom left in the SPH, then scrolling down and looking at the problems section. If you see a problem like "unused liquid fuel resources" or "consumer not receiving liquid fuel" then you've got a fuel problem. The easiest way to fix this is to put a fuel line between the engines and fuel tanks until you see the problem disappear. 2. Your plane has just enough air intakes to get of the ground, but not enough too fly normally. This is pretty unlikely. Or you might have accidentally bound "close intake" to an action group that you're pressing during launch, but this is also pretty unlikely. Pics of your plane right clicking on the engine before and after flameout would be immensely useful. Hope this helps! -
The Modern Fighter Jet Challenge

Radar is just dead weight if you don't have radar guided missiles to use as an analogue for K-5s. when's the video going up? -
You're joking. I was going to suggest a Camel on your Vickers Vimy post jokingly, (I thought it was too small to fit a decent engine in) but you've actually made one, and it's incredible. All hail the First World War Spitfire! Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves... Edit: The pilot seems to have jumped out in the last picture.

YYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS! I thought it would get wrecked by missiles at long range, as it didn't even have ECM. -

@dundun92 how would you feel if I copy pasted some of your rules for a stock aero dogfight challenge? As there doesn't seem to be one active right now, and not being able to test my planes in the same conditions as they are being used in is killing them. (Also, have you tried my MiG?) -
But, but Val's sweet ride! Goddamn platyabbits...

Weekly Aircraft Development Competition
MiffedStarfish replied to MiffedStarfish's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I never did, but I dont see why not as long as you didnt already have a design you fitted the rules around. @no_intelligence Great plane! I know its not your first post, but welcome to the forums! -
X-Plane-of-the-Day

Rockwell XFV-12 The Rockwell XFV-12 was an experimental VTOL which never left the ground. Instead of the swiveling thrust exhausts used on its peer, the Harrier, it used a new concept called "thrust augmented wing" which entailing forcing exhaust through flaps on the wings to increase lift. Unfortunately for Rockwell, said concept wasn't very good, and didnt produce nearly as much lif as expected. You could say thrust augmented wing technology never really "took off." (Amusingly, it's engine didn't produce enough thrust to lift the engine alone off the ground.) Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/swpj91qxfdx4omp/Rockwell XFV-12.craft?dl=0- 166 replies

I know how you feel. I went on a buying spree to finally unlock tier 3, and came down to about 1.5k lions. You just need one or 2 good games, I reccomend playing the daily AI thingy. -

Weekly Aircraft Development Competition

It says 20t empty, but it still does seem like very little, I remember we had empty military transports in the 50 ton range. -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
MiffedStarfish replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You know what, I might actually give this a go. I've been doing to much combat recently, and I need a change before I get back to blowing things up spectacularly. I'm thinking a large mothership made out of Mk3 parts, with a hangar made out of 2 mk3 cargo bays next to each other open to create one big space. Two sections, assembled in orbit, with refuelling craft to fill the tanks before departing. Give me a week or so to discover this design is impractical, and I'll report back. -

The Modern Fighter Jet Challenge

There isn't really a "replica" engine in the fairing, (there was, but I took it out) just a nuke to get the engine bell and bring the mass back. I think your confusing my MiG with the totm one. As for parts, most of my stuff is fairly high, I'm very committed to shape so I end up using small science parts and things like that to get uneccesary details. One version even had wing fences I made with these parts: But I cut them as it didn't look right and was creating unneeded drag. -

The MiG should do fine then, what extra parts there are mostly in the fairings. Oh that reminds me, I think it comes in at about 99 or 100 parts, so a lot more reasonable than the Hornet. -

How to rename subassembly
MiffedStarfish replied to evileye.x's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
<gasp> how did I not know this? 80% of my subassemblies are going in the "Missile" catergory... -
Last night, I had the best dogfight experience I've ever had out of any game I've played with stock and BDA. It involved 3 MiG-17, and a F/A-18C Hornet, and involved such tense occurrences such as: Running out of ammo, Mid-air collisions, and running out of plane.
I took fifteen plus screenshots, and they're just uploading to imgur, so expect a full write up later, probably in mission reports.

How to rename subassembly
MiffedStarfish replied to evileye.x's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There isn't away to rename a subassembly, but you can get around this by selecting the subassembly you want to rename, dropping it in the subassembly drop box, then naming and writing the new description, and then deleting the old one. And what do you mean by "subassembly catergories?"
