How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is extremely interesting, can you maybe expand on this a bit more, i cant really understand it. So in a way, there could be an option for locked Navball mode, not camera. So instead of locking the camera, you could lock the navball? Does that make any sense, i am trying to visualize it but i cant. So then you could judge by navball these things.. I am playing all around here, i just cant understand at the level you do it, i am just grasping all these. Tnx though, its really good brain exercise for me and i hope for others too :p -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
No no no, thats crazy helpful, i understand a lot better now, so basically Navhud orients navball to the current camera, well a projection of it? Does that make sense, its ok, i understand a lot better many things through these posts. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I know that, thats why i selected the best answer of locked camera by @VoidSquid Navhud though, visualizes the indicator in your view and you can tell when is left/top/down, i was wondering if its ''easy'' to do that from navball. Thats not my point, here is an example when i press D and the thrusters push upwards https://imgur.com/DGb6hys I want to know how can i rotate my spacecraft so when i press D goes left or right, depending what you like...yes if you press D it should go right, you are not wrong in that one, was more of a hasty post. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I am in docking mode ofcourse. Example, https://imgur.com/jlWv7F8 when i press A my top thrusters burst Right I want to know how can i know the rotation that my craft when i press A my thrusters will burst left. Can i know that from navball? -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ok, i will try to make my question simple. How do i align my WASD controls of RCS with the level flight indicator. NAVhud mod does that, and i cannot figure out from any of the info here how can i do it with the navball. I honestly...i am trying so hard to explain my question but i am not asking what is a level flight indicator or where my ship is pointing or how control points work. I want to know the rotation that is needed to bring my WASD controls to correlate with the level flight indicator, so when i push for example A, the top RCS thruster will burst on the lelt direction. So the two RCS thrusters here on the top will burst left when i press A. https://imgur.com/6SGbBWA -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
https://imgur.com/6SGbBWA Please help me understand, how can i keep my vessel pointing that way and find out how can i know the rotation, when i press left(A) the top RCS will burst left. I am trying so hard to figure it out, on the ground its easy but when in orbit, facing weird ways and etc my mind breaks. Without visual indication on the craft which is the correct rotation, how can i find that out from the navball??? The correct rotation being the RCS thruster thats alligned with the control point ofcourse. I updated the screenshot to a more clear situation -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It has everything with rotational orentation, that yellow indicator, the RCS controls will correlate with the directions. I mean you know which way is up and which way is down from that yellow indicator. Do you mean something else? The direction above the inverted small arrow is up, then right left down. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ummm i guess, not really, because you might be doing something complicated, and the vessel has hidden inside payloads cores or the docking port is like infront, i mean, to be honest the most effective way i have to admit is the locked camera mode, its not really what i would want to use, but its really easy to orient yourself. I am kinda confused, why we cant tell this whole thing somehow from navball, it feels like i am just missing how, i am surprised its not doable. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Not talking about docking ports/docking, check this Yellow indicator in this video https://youtu.be/4Nl84I-z1OI?t=91 How does it know how the control point is orientated? Ohhhh man, i think i get it now, every control part must have an orientation indication and it just sees that? Damn i hope its not that simple . I still wish there was a way you could tell from the navball but i am guessing its not so easy when you are in different orbits/inclinations etc, no idea. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hmm ok i see, locked camera its a good way to figure out and orient yourself....i selected both of yours as best answers and thanks for the help. Although i still wonder if there is a way to tell from navball but that will do i guess. How these mods display the orientation? Do they check camera? Do they check a different thing, i guess we might never know. -

I am looking to find out how Navhud manages to indicate your orientation through the navball, i am sorry but your answers its not what i am looking for. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Not talking about to land, for example i am in Orbit around Minmus and my vessel is bassically a fuel tank with rcs around it, how can i tell when i press W or S(In docking mode) the controls will correspond with RCS, sry, i know you are trying to help but i am looking for a different kind of info...Navhud has an onscreen indicator telling you how your vessel is orientated no matter in what orbit you are, i am hoping thats something i can see from our stock navball and i am missing how. -
How to orientate RCS in orbit?
Serenity replied to Serenity's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thanks for the info but neither of these help a lot in what i am after. What if the vessel is complicated or it has no tell of which rotation corresponds with controls? There must be a way to tell...how does Navhud do it? I am gonna look into Docking port alignment a bit more but i dont think its what i am after. Honestly i just want to figure out how Navhud translates Navball into that on screen indicator, i feel i am missing something obvious. -
Hello, i was wondering how can you tell the rotation of the current control point, especially for when you want to use RCS to maneuver/dock. I tried to understand Navball but i can never tell if my vessel is the ''normal way'' so when i RCS up it will go up etc. I used the mod Navhud that has an onscreen indicator but i really want to learn how to use Navball to tell. Maybe i am missing something but for now i cant figure it out and i just rotate and do RCS bursts until they point the ''right way''(Right way meaning corresponds with the controls).

Here is my booster without the second stage, it can launch pretty heavy stuff, a strong second stage(Starship even) that puts big payloads easily in orbit and fast. It can return to KSC or do a ballistic land without any save/quicksave/mods/stuff, just circularize fast with the second stage and you can return to the booster around 70-80k altiltude. The fuel is more than enough to do wasteful burns to land ''easily'' with zero horizontal speed. Serenity R ''Sanity'' : https://imgur.com/S61ipTG ONLY modded part is the landing legs BUT it can land on engines too, just less options with good level terrain. Now for the Starship, i have a design but its too early WIP to share. Here is the mod with landing legs and much more:
-
Maybe its just my idea but it seems it burns only when its needed compared to all the time. I just wanted to make a post of appreciation of how useful and effective this mod has become over the years! Thank you!

1.10 fuel transfer issue?
Serenity replied to Woodsielord's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Sadly for me that doesnt seem to fix it. Time warping is a solution, switching vessels doesnt work either for me.o -
I was trying to completely match velocities side by side but i found even with precision controls on and low RCS twr it felt impossible. I was wondering if its doable or its always gonna be a small difference. I am guessing in real life its impossible and there is always a need for corrections, well except if they dock.

Yeah but cool things are fun, plus 80-90k i is doable and you can do a burn back with booster to land in KSC. After releasing the second stage/payload, you can increase booster altitude to 100-120k and then switch to payload to make a lower orbit, it gives you more time that way. Big landing legs as you said ARE LONG OVERDUE, thats true...you can land on engines if its a big rocket though....bit tough...very risky, i use Kerbal Reusablity Expansion Mod for the legs. Why everyone thinks Spacex is a risky decision? If we get a cool new update with cool new parts and missions why we wouldn't be happy that one of our favorite games gets more goodies? I see it like playing a racing game as a Ferrari fan, and a new update comes with goodies and some Mercedes and i am like noooooooooo. Well not the best analogy but hopefully it makes some sense. -
I apologize for calling you that, there was no need for it, even if i strongly disagree with your opinions, opinions with very valid reasons. I do believe though scientists main motivation should not be military needs or short-sighted discoveries that lead to monetary gains. Yes, its a cool, starry-eyes idealism as you perfectly said those words. Going back to Kerbal https://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Green_Monolith The game itself tells you that some alien structures help them unlock future technologies. So its a fact that the current Kerbals are not fully responsible for their advances. (Saying ''current'' in case those monoliths were build by a very long gone ancient Kerbal civilization)

Its not that hard for doing one booster if you do not focus on how much delta V is wasted, you can put a second stage in orbit and have time to switch to the rocket at 60-70k altitude VERY easily and control the descend. The landing is a bit tricky yes but again, with some extra wasteful burns to zero horizontal speed(and unrealistic) you can land it...most times....even with some relatively easy precision, close to runway etc. -
You have the point you are brainwashed thinking science only goes forward if there is military need. Science is not meant to be funded by military, just because thats we have right now on Earth doesnt make it the right and the only way. The only reason all these brilliant humans play by the rules its because they know its the only way to get their funding. I believe most would love the opportunity to work in their field without worrying about loosing their money if they dont apply a short minded use for military or economy. We have jailed our scientists, most cant work in what they want, and their motivations go beyond of most human concepts, they want to explore, to discover, to make sense, that has a never ending power and never loose motivation while doing that... except ofcourse if they threaten to remove their paycheck.

Superpowers, military satellites and nuclear warheads contradicts a bit the lack of efforts to try to blow up the asteroid...well you know...try to do some damage to it, i get that they were focused on each other but that level of readiness, having weapons like that, i am guessing they would try something...even if during world war...i hope...lol
