I have faced the same questions/problems. My solution was to build at least one workable concept of that ''multirole'' stuff i had in mind. But, after i build it, i leave it in warehouse and i build more modular crafts/bases. Basically i like the dualism, i prove myself i can build an insane multirole craft but i still want my actual base/infastracture to resemble some sense of realism. And practicality, for example, if something goes partially wrong and i loose the ability to do a certain task, then i have to design and launch a whole new vessel just to replace that certain need, and then have a damaged multi role craft and a support craft, which i really dont like as an idea.

[Discussion] My thoughts on life-support.
Serenity replied to Acid_Burn9's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I think they confirmed in order for your colony to ''grow'' and become bigger(and able to build more things), it will require certain resources. So i am guessing thats their concept of life support? I havent followed much so sorry if i missed something/incorrect. I agree we also need the usual life support systems, wish we had in KSP 1 a simplified stock option to enable it. -
"parts no longer exist" 1.10.1
Serenity replied to a topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Can i ask three questions, 1)Did you verify the files on steam(i am guessing from what you said yes) 2)Do you have cloud saving enabled? 3)How often do you backup your saves? I am glad it works now, personally i backup every time i play the game, which is a bit much but feels safe. -
Most say it was a really early feature and it was supposed to had a good amount of drag effect. But for some reason that doesnt seem to be the case in newer versions. Personally i failed many times to find any serious changes in drag, Maybe its just hat, a feature that just didnt make it for various reasons in the newer versions of the game.

Fuel transfer issue with V 1.10
Serenity replied to daedalus6's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Yeah its a widely known bug, i hope they are close in fixing it, next patch hopefully soon. You can like warp and fix it, or change vessels etc but i sure hope so as others said its on their target list for the upcoming fixes. -
All these are very nice but, KSP 2 is coming, if they start implementing all the things you said, the selling points/sense of next gen KSP start to blend and disappear. You can only improve so much before harming the sequel of the game. If they start expanding so much in KSP, weather, visuals, better modding support, then the new KSP will be a very hard sell, people will not be satisfied and will say, wait what? whats new? we already had most of these in KSP one for free updates. So i am pretty sure there are legit limitations from KPS 2 , in what we can see in this game, and i am gonna take a guess and say that includes weather or any special re work of modding support. And well to be fair, i am sure at this point it will be maybe extremely hard in the current state to implement most of these.

Do you ever think how many mistakes NASA, Boeing, Soviets did? How many lives, money and people were harmed in the process? YOU CANT just ignore every other wrongdoing just because you want to find a reason to not want SpaceX in Kerbal. You want to be fair? There not a single company that didnt destroy lives, made huge mistakes and generally caused a lot of harm. I am not saying that nulls every mistake Elon did or will do, i am saying the things he did so far are not enough reasons to justify leaving SpaceX out of the game. If thats the case then lets leave even Nasa out of Kerbal because of the wrongs they did. Its ridiculous from my side of view. AGAIN, i am not trying to defend anyone but you cant be selective when picking the problems of any industry. You have to see the whole picture, things are complicated, its like the usual saying, blame the system not the person. Dunno i am out of brain juice, hope this post made some sense.

You are correct, my main reason, and motivation was to explain why there are no above surface settlements That drove me to a story i didnt really like but i couldnt not escape the fact there are no life signs/cities etc in the whole planet. My explanation is they were unable to create a space program until the mystical monoliths appeared in the surface and started transmitting short range data bursts of ''magical'' rocket blueprints that were super easy to build. When they visit enough of those artifacts, they will have the ability for crazy travels, hence to birth of KSP 2 .
-
No worries, can you tell a bit more of the bad stuff he did? I am honestly interested, not trying to instantly deny/debunk them.
-
What? I explained why. I am not trying to give it 100% logical sense, like its gpu graphic intensive, or why not build the KSP underground, you have to bend some mind rules and i am trying to bend as few i can. Kerbals built outside only some minor things to launch more easily and transfer the parts/things from underground factories/infastructure. The monoliths gave them the technology to go orbital, but the colonization puzzle will be only complete when they visit more monoliths and artifacts across the Kerbol. They still live underground because its not worth to build more outside and then the danger come and destroy everything, which is happening again and again at random times. The ''danger'' is not something i have invested much time on, i am simply describing as something that destroys all Kerbals if they are outside, and lives the plant life intact. It kills all animals too, thats why there are no animals outside. They stopped roaming outside long ago thats why buildings are not found on the surface. Yes its a far stretch but i think it kinda works/fits i guess? Every other story i imagined doesnt fully explain why there are no cities/buildings.

I feel you, sacrifices had to be made, more parts, more updates, more players, more Kerbal. The price is high but hopefully its worth it.

Rover parts and surface parts yes, i agree. We need those, τhats a very good point. Stock reusability is tricky, and most time ends with mixed results in beauty and in practicality. I am....i dont know...why Elon and SpaceX gets so much hate. Is it that weird need to ''hate'' something that is popular and mainstream? Eitherway i do feel there is no need to pick sides when someone is trying to promote rockets/space. And to clarify, picking sides, is not to dislike someone, but to actively trying to find bad things about them.

Wow, i have under 5 mods, i am surprised so few have lightly modded installs. Mechjeb, AlarmClock, Kerbal Reusability Expansion, Tracking Station Evolved. Does Module Manager count as a mod?
-
'''Most people agree'' ''Most blinkered fan boys'' Anyways, i think SpaceX is having way too much impact on space/rocket areas to just ignore it. Its part of space life either we like it or not, they are out there participating in the space race. I truly believe having a taste of that ingame would have a positive impact. And who would say no to new stock landing legs????We need something in that area for sure!!! Eitherway, we have amazing mods for all of these. Can most people stop claiming they know what most people think? Oh wait did i just do a similar thing.Bye

I am guessing you are on Steam, did you try to verify the game files? Here is how: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 Maybe some textures are missing. Also disable cloud saving just in case. Are you using any mods? I found this on the internet if you have lots of mods installed: Black parts usually means your computer ran of memory trying to load all the textures.

There is a major battlefield out there, with old powerful kings, fighting every single day. I am not saying Elon is the only righteous fighter out there, but he certainly isnt the most liked. For example in youtube, there are certain channels that they try to find every single detail when something goes wrong with SpaceX. Which is FINE.But when things go very wrong for other companies they have a very high diplomatic explanation. Which is imbalance, they prefer certain things.
-
When things go perfect from the very first time? Mistakes are made, for various reasons. Sometimes they are easy to fix sometimes almost impossible. There is no motive behind it, or that he doesnt care. Its all part of the proccess. DUDE, space is gonna be EXTREMELY crowded in future. Astronomers even now, have techinques and computer programs to overcome such thing. As we proceed in the future, if all goes well, the space will be full of things, and astronomers will have amazing futuristic tools(they have now as well) to filter out all the negative stuff. Omg i cant beleive i am trying to defend something so obvious. Maybe i am getting trolled. Things are rough in the start, they wont be perfect but thats the point. Things need to get better, to advance. Think about it, astronomy will find ways to observe the stars through the advancement of technology and it will do it together with all the satelite companies etc. Stop being so shortsighted, omg.
-
I am sorry but this is very shortsighted. New technology always causes problems, problems we solve. Yes its a problem now but every new technology is bound to have such issues. So you have two options here, First you discover new ways to fix and improve new great things Second you give up and abandon future important technologies.
-
I agree!!! Expanding on reusability IS A MUST. I really hope they do it!!!! Until then check this It is a gem of a mod!

A long time ago something terrible happened, forcing all Kerbals to go underground to survive. They tried to resurface many times but it was too risky, whatever was the cause it seemed to come back even stronger every time. Slowly the Kerbals decided to dedicate in a full underground life, salvaging almost everything in surface to build cities inside mountains. Scientists always ventured outside for as long they could to figure out what was the cause that was destroying any animal life on the surface but leaving the rest unharmed. Time passed on, many, many years. Few years ago though, mystery objects started appearing in the surface, transmitting technologies that were in the sphere imagination. These transmissions were the key for not only colonizing other planets but even more insane speeds that could help reach vast distances. Few brave Kerbals ventured out and build the first structures after thousand of years on the surface of Kerbin. Their goal?Build insane things and colonize other planets, venture out as far they can and explore these strange objects/transmissions. Kerbals for the first time they can have the technology to survive away from Kerbin, the keys to unlock that technology are out there. Their motivation? Whatever hellish thing happens in Kerbin will happen again. No one knows when and what it is. Kerbals only thing they know is if they want to live above ground it will be the ground of a different planet.

Land on top of every groundstation building.

Hope your save is fine. Try verifying files, and starting maybe once without any mods etc, make backups though. Btw dunno if you know but you can enable surface features even in old savegames: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/184861-enabling-surface-features-without-new-savegame/

Do you have cloud saving enabled on steam? You might be carrying over some problems with cloud save. They are monitoring these forums but they also look at the bugtracker site. This looks like the bug you having but its on Jool. Maybe post a new bug report there? https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/13101
-
It happens so often i am guessing its easy to replicate but hard to fix(since we didn't get it with 1.10.1). Personally i am ok with waiting a bit longer, my biggest fears are drag related bugs. I remember the meltdown i had when my rockets didnt fly high enough. Although i got to say, while flying in Kerbin those shadows flickering are super weird lol.
