The only thing I can't figure out about KSP
Geonovast replied to JezzaFromTheDirtySouth's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I bought a KSP-capable laptop so I could just play at work. .... this game has become the most expensive $40 I ever spent. -

Your track pad should have a designated area for a right click, even if you don't have a separate button. Do yourself a favor and go get a mouse! They're like $4 new and I see them at thrift stores all the time for like $0.50. Even a crappy mouse will be worlds different than a trackpad. -
They're actually not calling the business. I really hate how phone systems are set up. We have a main number, which rings all of our phones. I doubt they're calling this one, as the company has had it for over a decade and it wouldn't be on any lists by now. We also have a general mailbox number, which rings all of our phones. We have a supply mailbox, sales mailbox, service mailbox. All with their own direct numbers, all of which ring some of our phones. Each of our phones has a direct line. Not an extension, but a regular phone number. Each of our phones also has a personal mailbox, with its own number. Calling that number from outside the system may ring our phone, I'm not certain. So that's, what? 13 phone numbers for 4 people. Most of these numbers are on residential cold call lists. So these robots randomly pick numbers from lists of phone number, or just literally generate random numbers to call. They're calling from their own pool of numbers, so if we block one, there's however many thousands of others they can call from. And, of course, our phone provider has a limit as to how many numbers we can block, because all the blocking is done on their end. Even though we have a phone router here (It's VOIP), I have no access to it, and it can't block numbers. For some reason. Our old system was antiquated and crappy, but it did whatever I told it to and the phones actually make sense. Oh, and I hate the phones themselves. It's a 4 button process to page someone. Last phone system was one button.

Hold the right mouse button down while you move the mouse. Oh, and welcome to the forums! -
We're having this issue at work where we get a lot of spam calls. A lot are dead air, robots, or sales calls, but most of them sound like a fax machine or dialup connection. I've gotten three in the last half hour. I refuse to believe that this many computers are accidentally calling both our main number and our direct lines with this kind of frequency. My ear literally hurts. It's insanely shrill. There's no way this is legal. In fact I would consider it audible assault, kinda like that one guy that got charged with assault after sending a flashy gif to someone he knew had epilepsy with the intention to cause a seizure. My phone provider doesn't seem to care. I need to know who to sue for my hearing damage.

No, I mean the IRC Chat
-
I'm curious if any of the regulars around here who spend entirely too much time on the forums, like myself, actually use the chat. I pop in every once in awhile, there's usually some 200 accounts in there... with no discussion. Like, ever. Do any of you use it and actually see real conversation going on? Maybe I've just got bad timing...

Started the lifter. 5m center core with 5 mastodons, two 3.75m boosters with 7 vectors each, and two more helper boosters with 1 vector on the shuttle itself, which will be jettisoned after achieving orbit. Pretty nice launch, I think. Had to play a bit of musical engines with the mastodons to keep it flying straight, but it worked. Actually kept the boosters until the center tank was about half gone... ditching them when they get empty means you do not go to space today. Nearly empty before ditching the tank! I usually have a lot of extra fuel! Hopefully those poodles have enough oompf to get me though that arduous circularization burn.... 12 minutes from now. Phew! Played with the payload winches a bit. This dummy payload is actually a fuel truck that will be operating at a Mun mining station. Shuttle will land, lower the truck, wheels will be attached with KAS, then the truck will be disconnect. Re-entry was mostly ok. A little bit of yawing, for some reason. Ok, at least, until I go low enough for there to be a substantial amount of atmosphere. Which is when I realized I forgot to re-balance the re-entry CoM with the CoL after installing the life support modules up by the cockpit. Whoops. Good thing it was unmanned!.... because I killed Val, Jeb, Bill, and Bob on an earlier F12-based test that couldn't be reverted due to quicksaving I need to figure out something with the main tank decoupler, though, since it "mounts" to closed cargo bay doors... and artifacts are left behind after decoupling.

Pilot View Glitch
Geonovast replied to Matt_'s topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
The picture link is for a file on your computer, so the link will only work on your computer. You will need to upload the picture to a file hosting site, then link the picture directly from there. See the link in my signature for directions! Welcome to the forum! Hopefully once we see the picture, we can get you fixed up! -

Deciding there is no good way to unload cargo onto the Mun from a traditional top-load shuttle, I started development on this thing. I can't wait to see what the lifter is going to be like.

The only thing I can't figure out about KSP
Geonovast replied to JezzaFromTheDirtySouth's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This is the greatest thing I've read in a long time. Nice intro. Welcome and well done! -
I've had the same thought, which is why I will be going from 2400mhz memory to 3600mhz shortly. I'll try to do some kind of benchmarks between. Unfortunately for the test, but fortunately for me, there will also be other hardware being upgraded at the same time... so I'm not sure how telling it will be. I am keeping the same CPU, though.

Tilting on ignition
Geonovast replied to Sargent_OneShot's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, shuttles are hard. The first ones I built could have won somersault competitions. If you're still having issues with the pictures, try uploading them somewhere else, like Imgur, which won't have any funky permissions issues. Google Docs wasn't really meant to be an image hosting site. -

None of your links work, they don't appear to be public. But if you CoM and CoT are lined up, which I'm guessing they are since you appear to be proving a picture with them displayed, then my first guess would be that your "Control from here" point is upside down, and you're launching with prograde on for SAS. Either that or there's an insane amount of drag at the top pulling the top of the ship down. See the link in my signature on how to directly imbed your pictures. -
The GPU really just helps having one to take the graphics load off the CPU. The GPU can't help with the actual physics calculations, so beyond just installing a GPU, getting a beefier one won't really help. As for framerates, they're all over the place for me. Doesn't seem to be anything consistent with them. I'll get a solid green clock a lot of the time... then a solid yellow with a noticable slowdown with the exact same craft in the exact same situation. I wish I knew what was going on, because right now I have no graphics mods installed, and on an i7-7700K with a GTX-1050Ti I shouldn't be seeing that kind of behavior with a ~130ish part craft in LKO. I guess I've just never expected any kind of consistency out of this game, and it gets worse with mods installed.

I was wondering where that came from. It's been bugging me, not sure I like it. At least now I know where to look for the switch.
-
Well that's a bit concerning. I guess I'll need to page through this thing, as I bought a NVMe M.2 SSD to go with it. I'd like my GTX-1060 to run properly. Most of my fans are already full speed since they're just connected to 4 pin molex connectors, so I'm not too concerned about that if the PWM ports do that. My i7-7700K will be migrating over. I haven't seen any 6th gen specific features, just 7th for XMP. This is what's waiting for the memory. I am definitely going to page through everything before I hook it all up. I thought I'd done enough reading, apparently not! Thanks guys.
-
Uh... of course I did! >.> This is the first mobo I've ever purchased that didn't come with a kit. Can you think of any of the gotchas you've run into? I have the board, but haven't powered it up yet as I'm still waiting to purchase memory.
-
It might be that it's 5:30 in the morning and I didn't sleep well, but now I'm more confused. I have no idea what interleave mode is. See, this wouldn't be an issue at all if I went 4 x 8 like I have now... I'm gonna stick'm in the two closest to the CPU, since (on the board currently installed, anyway) the heatsink actually covers up those DIMMS. That way, if I, for some reason, ever go to 64 GB, I don't have to remove the heatsink.

This is the board if it helps: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128972

It's dual. It has 4 memory slots, alternating two black and two grey. Listed left to right as DDR4_4, DDR4_2, DDR4_3, DDR4_1. I want to use DDR4_2 and DDR4_1, which are the same color, right?

This has name badges and a bunch of other cool toys for shuttles. There's another one I used to use that lets you do graphics, but the name is escaping me at the moment. Welcome to the forum, @Jaime!
