I sent a mission to the Mun in science mode. It failed. The next time I opened the game, the system shrunk by a factor of 10, but the atmospheres were still the same size. I therefore could use a stripped down version of the mun lander, with an extra capsule, to rescue. I landed 120 km away, and decided to jetpack to the rescue lander. The kerbal crashed into a mountain. So, the rescue mission would have to return alone. However, the periapsis was too high, so I just skimmed the atmosphere, and slingshotted around the mun into a high orbit. I then sent a rescue rescue mission, but I then discovered that the rescue craft had its hatch blocked by a probe core. Then, another mun slingshot ejected them from the kerbin SOI. Eventually, the system suddenly grew to normal size again, leaving the kerbal in a low solar orbit forever.

Are there any tutuorials or instructions for Kopernicus?
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Why? You can set resolution arbitrarily high. I also meant using your own custom planets. -
If you watch the end of the video, after the credits, you will see the habitation ships. @MatterBeam This is one of the problems that Venus airships don't have. With practically normal gravity, low radiation, and quick hohmann transfers, plus an ideal environment for agriculture(plenty of fertilizer in the air.), it would be harder to colonize than Mars, but have a better living environment. Like Mars, it used to have oceans, but the entire surface has been subject to lava, possibly making hypothetical past life hard to find, not to mention the difficulties of exploring the surface, so the science opportunity is less than Mars.

Even the stock craft descriptions are too long to read, because they go out of the box and there is no way to scroll. -

It takes equal delta vee to land from LEO though. Experiments have shown that plants grow better in simulated Martian soil than in lunar soil. Also, even if there is ice, which is debatable, it would only be at the poles. Mars has much of its surface above giant glaciers. It also means more muscle atrophy. Mars and the Moon are very different environments. Phobos might be a more useful test bed. Or maybe just setting up a mock base in the artic, which is currently being done by several organizations.

It would be good for providing food to orbital colonies. Plenty of CO2, fertilizer, and sunlight.

@Helmetman The balloons would be encased in a shell and then rapidly inflate. Watch this video for an animation agreed

pre programmed maneuvers

I think the inability to control probes without a signal since you cannot program really needs improvement. It makes probe missions very difficult, due to occlusion.- 23 replies

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!

What I do is I unlock the docking jr. and launch a probe with its own engine to LKO, then launch a crew lander to LKO. With a terrier and a fl-400, the probe should be able to do TMI, MCC, and half of orbital insertion. Then the lander can finish circulization, land, and return. If docking is hard without RCS, you can instead sent the probe with an empty capsule to munar orbit, send another capsule with crew to near it, EVA, land, and then return and EVA to the first capsule. -
Venus's atmosphere has useful elements for agriculture(in the acids.) Unlike Mars, it has plenty of nitrogen.

What's the craziest mission you've ever pulled off?

Using OPM and slingshots, I sent a PT series Munsplorer all the way to Neidon. Passing near all the other gas giants too. -

No, I mean when I was reentering. Edit- Now I read the small text. Nevermind. -

I tried to land on Eve with the two stage Universal Atmospheric Lander. 1. Bill couldn't do SAS 2. I forgot to attach a mechjeb 3. The heatshield was blocking the engines, so I couldn't deorbit. 4. So, I had to detach the heatshield, and use the first stage's precious fuel to slow down reentry. 5. For some reason, all the tanks had very little oxidizer, effectively halving the fuel. At this point I realized that a rescue mission would be needed. 6. The lander had no ladder, so I would have to tip it over for Bill to EVA. 7. I didn't even have to tip over, as the landing gears exploded on touchdown. Thankfully, the mothership got home safely. Also, just did a Minimus flyby mission. Was admiring raster prop monitor for too long, and I didn't deploy the parachute soon enough. -
Oops. That is a good point. However, there is plenty of sunlight to run propellers.

For logistical reasons, I will not be doing save file sharing. However, I will make a document for "who is launching what" and craft files. -
If DSG was a fuel depot, it would make more sense. But there is not anything in lunar orbit different than in LEO, other than the view. Yes, the radiation is greater, but it has been accurately measured by many spacecraft, including the curiosity, and it not much of a problem. The solar radiation is easily blocked by a small shelter or even just water filled sleeping bags, and the GCR is less than that experienced by Russian cosmonauts.

Mars storms are still 'harsh" in the sense that they hurt solar panels, but otherwise, they have little effect. However, Venusian storms are really harsh- several hundred kilometers per hour. However, it is constant, and a heavy airship wouldn't be pushed easily, especially if it is designed to be non-aerodynamic. As for mining, blimp cities could lower tethered robots to quickly gather regolith, and then raise them for resource processing and repair. Being able to EVA with just an oxygen mask and skin protection(maybe some kind of foam or just a normal wetsuit) is better. From a book I'm working on:
