Mars 2020 is a rover that will be the first part of NASA's Mar's Sample Return program. Challenge: Build a rover, sent it to Duna, and collect data from three different biomes. Your rover must have three detachable science storage units. These represent the caches the rover leaves behind. Then, send another mission, a comsat, to Duna, that has a detachable drive. Then, sent a Mars ascent vehicle, that will pick up the containers, and take them to Duna orbit. Then, the comsat's drive unit will take them back to Kerbin. Note: You do not have to physically bring the containers back to Kerbin. You can transfer the science into another container. You can transfer science through a claw or docking. Score: 100 points minus total tonnage sent to LKO. Bonus: 2X For having the MAV bring a small rover/hopper to collect the containers. +10 for using ISRU for the MAV 2X For lowering first rover with skycrane 2X for docking drive to Mun station with lab

Team: USSR Mission: 2 Success! I used "hot staging". That is where instead of a decoupler, you overheat the part below you. l also did an EVA in the upper atmosphere. Initial Funds: 243,048. Cost: 9,222 Bonus: 4,000 Total: 237,826 I'm out of missions now. Posting imajur album. https://imgur.com/a/3QehU

Your score is 1304! You're in the lead. While your shuttle broke up, I kept the bonus because you earned the "impress me bonus".- 38 replies

That would turn this into a role-play, which would make the mods lock the thread. "Unfortunately we do not allow for roleplay scenarios on the forums because it tends to get out of hand when people don't distinguish between the roleplay situations and the rest of the forums. " However, I will make the rules allow each player to launch two missions. I'll launch mission 2 for USSR now that rules are changed.

Team: USSR Mission: 1 A very small rocket. Just 4 meters tall. It failed(probe core ran out of power half way through the ascent.) Initial Funds: 250,000. Cost: 2,760 Remaining Funds: 247,340 Second attempt: Success! Initial Funds: 247,340 Cost: 3,120 Remaining Funds: 244,220 Bonus: 2000 Total: 246,220 I'll post pics in a minute. https://imgur.com/a/z1h9l

The goal of this challenge is to land a kerbal on the mun before the other team. A user may only launch 2 missions. Each user selects whether to launch for the US or USSR. They must join whatever team is currently behind on missions. If they are tied the players can choose. The missions must be newly launched and in this order: 1. Orbital Satellite Done by both teams, USSR first 2. Suborbital Manned Spaceflight Done by both teams, USSR first 3. Orbital Manned Spaceflight Done by both teams, USSR first 4. Munar flyby probe Done by both teams, USSR first 5. Orbital Manned Spaceflight and EVA Done by US first 6. Munar impact 7: Launch a docking port into orbit and then launch a kerbal to dock with it(like agena target vehicle) 8. Munar orbit probe 9. Munar landing probe 10. Manned 3 person capsule 11. Manned lunar orbit 12. Test 2-stage Munar lander in LKO 13. Manned Munar orbit with Munar lander test. Fall down to 5 kilometers and then ascend again. 14. Manned Munar Landing The catch? Total cost per team must be less than 250,000. 150,000 However, the team which completes each step first gets 2,000 * step number of bonus money. (So a Munar orbit probe would give you 16,000 bonus money). Before posting about your mission, you must post that you are going to do it in advance. You have one week of real time to do the mission. If the mission fails, than your team lost that money. No quicksaves/reverts please. If your mission fails, you can launch another mission if you want. A failed mission will not count as one of your two missions. This is possible. Remember, a rockomax 3200 tank is only 3,000. Get to the Mun first! Each poster must post in this format please: Team: Mission: Put pics and desciption Initial funds: Funds used: Funds remaining: Rules: Mechjeb allowed Tweakscale banned Procedural tanks banned Other procedural things allowed No asparagus or caterpillar staging. No ions or nukes No other mods

Apollo Alternate Architectures Challenge
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
OK So you sent the lander to TMI, then sent a shuttle to TMI, then switched back to the lander for MOI, then rendezvoused with the shuttle? An interesting approach. I'll move you. You can use the mechjeb info screens, I guess. I did my minimus mission this way: First launch, probecore, solar panels, docking port jr. f-400 tank, terrier engine into LKO. 30 part rocket. Second launch: Same rocket, but with capsule, heatshield, and landing gear. The booster gave enough dv for TmI, a mid course course correction, and half of insertion fuel. The lander then continued a direct ascent mission. The gees were so intense that even level 5 jeb blacked out.- 38 replies

Apollo Alternate Architectures Challenge
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Since there is no analogue for the gemini capsule, the MK1 will half to suffice. Remember, larger capsules are higher up on the tree, and increase your weight(or mass). Good job sevenperforce, you are now the leader in both categories. I gave you the bonus for your low tech and unique "rover", bringing your score to 1044. Explains JT LOR.- 38 replies

Apollo Alternate Architectures Challenge
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
All the information screens. You can use KOS if you want though. Remember, if you do any other 2X bonus, that will cancel out the Mechjeb. I think doing a minishuttle would be interesting.- 38 replies

Apollo Alternate Architectures Challenge
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You cannot have a mechjeb part on your craft during flight. However, you can put it on during construction to check the stats, and then remove it before launch. Are you doing KOR or MOR? You docked your shuttle to the lander in LKO, so its KOR. Although you later docked in Munar orbit, that is not what the challenge is about.- 38 replies

This is similar to the Jool 5 Challenge, but for OPM. You may not use mining. You can assemble/refuel in LKO. You can refuel your craft in LKO from an asteroid, Mun, or Minimus, if you want, however. The whole craft must travel to the destination together. Type 1: Sarnus 5 Challenge Start with 200 points. Land on Tekto, Slate, Ovok, Hale, and Eeloo. Type 2: Urlum 4 Challenge Start with 150 points. Land on Priax, Wal, Tal, and Polta Type 3: Neidon/Plock Challenge Start With 300 points. Land on Nissee, Thatmo, Plock, and Karen. If you are doing this type in RSS, you'll need RSS extended. Rules: No tweakscale. No non-stock engines. Minus one point for every three parts(reusable launchers will help you). Do it in science mode, and cheat yourself enough science to unlock all the nodes. This way, you can know how much science you earned. +1 point for every 20 science. No labs. Bonuses: Use any life support mod: X2 Use any autopilot: /2 Do an unmanned mission: /4 Bring a rover: 10 points per rover. You can reuse rovers, but you can't count multiple rovers per planet. Use a plane on Tekto: +50. Use a plane on Thatmo: +100 Fly a plane/blimp in the lower atmosphere of a gas giant: +100. Kill a kerbal:-100 per kerbal Couldn't climb down to surface: -10 per failure to plant a flag Assembled using space planes: X2 Refueled via Mun/Minimus/Asteroid: X2 Used RO: X2 Used RSS or rescaled kerbin: X2 Kept the kerbals without adequate habitation volume on the mothership: /4 Impress me: X4 Good luck! Example: I didn't really launched a Neidon- Plock mission. I used RSS, so I had to land on Triton, Neried, Pluto, and Charon. I kept the kerbals in the 3 person pod the entire trip. I launched a blimp to Neptune. The ladder wouldn't deploy on triton. I used Mecjeb. Score: 390*2/4 is 195 points. Leader board 1. @JacobJHC -1037.5 2. 3. 4. 5.

Apollo Alternate Architectures Challenge
DAL59 replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yes. A shuttle cannot have a parachute. There cannot be any decoupler drop tanks, but docking a booster stage is allowed. There was also another EOR plan that involved docking a Gemini capsule to a small lander. http://www.astronautix.com/g/geminilunargemini.html No, but to count as a shuttle, it has to look capable of land landing.- 38 replies
